That said, I think Bellamy did us one big favour: I think Maloney learned a helluva lot from watching him and this had a lot to do with the new Shaun we saw last season. Shaun had an entirely new style when he came back that reminded me of Bellamy-directness, cutting edge, killer pace, trickery, goalscoring powerful shot. Even his position last season was like a deeper version of Bellamys 'inside left' role drifting from left to centre. Maloney had all the attributes of a good player before but did not have the killer edge until last season. When I watched Shaun last season, I immediately recognised Maloney had learned from Bellamy. Did anyone else think that?
