The uncomfortable truth about many Celtic fans

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by The Doctor, Dec 17, 2008.

  1. I see your point and can't understand the hatred towards him for no reason.

I'm trying to answer some questions, because I don't have anything to do at the moment and other can't be arsed. So I'll give it a go...

it's not unusual that players get far more praise than managers. you get to see the players all the time, everybody talks about them, they are in the media 24/7, people wear shirts with player names, teenagers have got player posters and pictures in their rooms etc.

you hardly get to see supporters praising their managers with banners or shirts or chants. they just don't seem to be attractive and interesting for most supporters, they don't score goals, they don't tackle. that's just football business. the players get all the attention (especially the topscorers).

footballers are humans as well. if you see somebody on the street with a shirt with your fav band, you have something in common with him, even if you don't know him personally. you probably find him likeable, only because of the shirt.
people admire players, because they play for their club, they are their heroes. there's already something in common. now if a player tells his fav band is xy, people that also like that band will like him even more. the same with boruc. he shows his beliefs, I as a catholic find this very cool, we have got another thing in common. this makes him pleasant in my eyes. the way he acts and talks, he seems like a sound guy. I think the majority of celtic supporters is like that. there's an "one of us" feeling. every club has got a player like that, a player the supporters identify with.

the only time I see WGS is when he's giving an interview. he says funny stuff and jokes around, he seems like an humorous guy and this makes him sympathetic as well in my personal opinion. I like both actually.

but I can see why people like players more than a manager. because players are in the spotlight all the time.

I think most explayers get mentioned as soon as they lose their job. :icon_mrgreen:

  2. That's rich coming from you......

  3. What kind of bonehead comment is that?

This could be a great debate if people would actually read the original post and get a grown up to explain it to them.

  4. *! lol I log off for an hour or so and come back to a thread that I've wanted to post for ages! Well said GD! :57:

  5. Do a poll. who should be in goals ? ....and we'll see where the dog lies.

Could people please read the opening post properly before posting a response.

  6. Seconded, it's annoying to trail through posts of those who haven't understood the original post or who think this thread is about dropping Boruc or not. :31:

  7. I was just thinking that- what has Boruc being our number one 'keeper got to do with this thread.

There's plenty of guys on here who fall into the bracket described in the first post, so step up and defend yourselves lads.

  8. henke67,
with all due respect, all you have done in this thread is tell people off,no debating coming from you either

the words used in the original thread are wrong in my opinion, pathological, and bigots

because some peoples views differ for others it in no way makes them pathological,or bigoted

i would like to think if people were pathological they would be locked up and if they were bigots i don't think the staff would allow it,

  9. But tim park, guys who despise Strachan never give any reasons for their opinions, so what are we supposed to think?

I try to put myself into their shoes and see what they could have against the wee man, but I have no idea how any Celtic fan could justify hating the man, unless it's a pre-existing hatred.

None of them ever give reasons or examples, it's just "Strachan out, Strachan GTF" etc...

  10. agreed, iv read this entire thread and henke you havent actually posted anything of substance other than suggesting people dont get what you get

offer an insight so they can 'get it' big boy :84:

  11. He didnt say that and you need to read the opening post again because its clear that you didnt read it properly

Because if you did, you'd taken into account this statement

  12. Gracias for being the first person to have a go. :50:

You're right that players will always be more popular with fans than managers. They're the ones scoring the goals or saving the penalties.

But it doesn't really get to the heart of the double standards at work here.

Can you honestly tell me that if our 3 time title winning manager was Patrick O'Strachan from Belfast that he would receive as much stick?

    I doubt it.

  13. That's an out and out lie, there are plenty of reasons people have given for their opinions.

  14. You can't really use that as an argument, there's absolutely nothing in that statement. I posted a reply on this particular subject earlier in the thread, can i ask what your thoughts are on it?

  15. Sorry squire but in general, they dont.

When Celtic loose a match, expect a "Stachan GTF" thread in Celtic Chat. I have witnessed it many a time myself over the last 3 years

  16. so, by the content of this, and some previous posts, i'm assuming you know GS to be protestant and you think that celtic fans dislike him for this? or you think its because he isn't irish. Is that what you think of fellow fans?

  17. I've been through it all on another forum and I'm just trying to keep the thread on track. Okay with you Tim?:icon_mrgreen:

  18. Aye but that's not a decision based on one result alone, and it's certainly nothing to do with bigotry.

  19. If you mean your post about Martin O'Neill, I read it.

I have said that any and all managers are accountable for their teams, nobody is above criticism. I have also said that criticism needs to be tempered with respect.

In the many cases from my experience, that criticism of WGS is of a personal and unreasonable nature.
