  1. Why wouldnt you clap over the poppy appeal?

  2. I've not read through this thread in its entirety, apologies for that.
My understanding of this years Rememberance Celebrations being adopted by all SPL clubs by wearing a Poppy on the team shirt, was because its the 90th Anniversary of the end of The Great War.
As much as I'm against Doctor John, I honestly cant beleive that there is a plan to split the "once proud" support.

I think a more effective and protest which may have rallied more support would have been a simple banner of a White Poppy or a banner with a slogan like "Fight War Not Wars".

  3. Firstly, if we decided NOT to wear poppies, we'd be criticised worldwide, would you want that kind of media attention disgracing our club ?

can't believe people are spitting the dummy out over a stupid * poppy stitched onto a top for 90 minutes.

And do you honestly believe John Reid wanted to split the fans up ?

come on now, you might not like him, but to say he came into Celtic Park wanting to split the fans up is just ludicrous mate.

And why would you want to give up your season ticket because of this, why turn your back on the team, people like you can make a difference on match days mate.

If I could afford a season ticket, I'd go every week and not give two * about the board room, politics or the kits, I'd just support those 11 players on the pitch, and then go home.

  4. sitting watching the blackburn/chelsea match here and the chelsea players not wearing poppies.........will this disgrace chelsea??no i dont think so,so why would not wearing the poppies disgrace celtic??

  5. Because we'd have been the only club in the league not too, and the fact our supporters have been in trouble lately for singing IRA songs, and then not wearing poppies to remember British soldiers.

of course it would have disgraced us.

  6. so it one rule for one club and another rule for another?

can i ask what chelsea's reasons for not wearing them are?? also man utd and liverpool??

  7. Some Motherwell players didn't wear one yesterday

And here's Hamilton's James McCarthy yesterday:

  8. there was absolutly nothing said on real radio phone-in last night, nor have i read anything in the papers i have read giving the motherwell players stick

  9. That's because Cameron is too busy hounding us for not doing a silence.

Imagine it if we didn't do a silence AND never wore poppies...

  10. That dont make them better fans that makes them fools...only spend what you can afford and put your wife and kids first.:97:

  11. Firstly two wrong don't make a right and secondly I believe that it's the GB's perogative to bring politics into Parkhead. They apparently ask new recruits on how much they know about politics. You don't know enough and you're not in. So don't say that it's because Reid has brought "politics" into Parkhead , that they're now doing it :31: The decision to wear the poppy yesterday was a mark of respect to the heroes of WW1 and WW2 who lost their lives to keep our country safe. I don't particularly agree with the British army's war in Iraq or their exploits in Ireland but I will still respect the WW heroes.

    Supberb post mate :50:

  12. I feel it should have just been left as a personal choice with each and every player and the same goes for other organisations which are in support of the poppy being worn. If a player believes in the cause, then fair enough, they should be able to wear their poppy without any hassle, it's their own business afterall. The same going for a player who does not feel comfortable wearing it. What gets me, however, is I wouldn't be surprised if a large contingency of players, weren't even fully aware of why they were wearing the poppy or what it stands for.

  13. They are epl......

  14. You are missing my point,if you go every week then you are supporting the team more often than someone who only goes to CP once a fortnight,i fail to see why you bring wife and kids in to it and i also cant understand why you brand anyone a fool for going to a lot of games, your not supporting the team sitting in your living room watching setanta are you.Do you travel to away games yourself ?

yes i know they are in the EPL,but does this excuse them from wearing poppies??

  15. I would have thought that would have given them even more reason to wear a poppy...:97:

  16. FFS

  17. Listen guys, these poppies are to remember people who fought and died for us, who cares about Reid and what you can and cannot sing.

Just show these guys a little respect ffs, also as someone said a few pages back, a family member of his died in World War I, how do you think he feels reading some of the * you're posting.

These guys risked their own life for the same people who are now wanting to deny them a little respect and their own little moment, its the * least they deserve, don't you think ?

  18. I've just about had it with this. There is a point up for discussion and a lot of you are missing the point because you are so wrapped up in the PC brigade's doctrine that you fail, or don't want to see the other side of the argument.

For those who don't understand what it means to be a Celtic supporter and I mean a blood Celtic supporter: We are a club playing in in Scotland whose support is mostly of Irish descent and Irish people. We are a club for everyone, the peoples' club, but we have our foundations in the Irish people. Without Ireland we would never have existed.
Wear the poppy if you want, but don't ram it down the throats of those who don't want to wear it and those who protested shouldn't be condemned. I really wonder if the people who are condemning the protesters are in favour of democracy at all.
You have your freedom of choice. Why deny those who are on the other side of the fence there's?
