Ok, so I watched the game last night with quiet expectation......but as the saying goes...I expected the worst and hoped for the best..

..and the best happened within 15 minutes with McDonald scoring a sublime goal....and I thought we are gonna take it to these scum.

It was not to be, within 5 minutes of the goal, we retreated into our shell, invited them onto us and decided to play the entire rest of the game inside our own half.

Now what is wrong here? I spent the next 70 minutes screaming at the telly for our bhoys to push forward, but alas I don't think they heard me.

Truth is, we were * lucky to get a draw, we did not play well, and the tactics sucked big time. Now, as any decent fan knows, the best form of defence is offence, but I did not see that last night.

I blame the players for their lack of footballing thinking, all they did was sit back and invite the Manky mob onto them.

How can I say this...WE PLAYED TOO * DEEP FOR 70 MINUTES!!!!!
When we were going forward, and getting players pushing up, Man U looked there for the taking, they were not invincible, their left back was shaky and their goalie was a newbie....

Truth is, this feels like a loss, because i know that if we had played the Celtic way, passing, pushing forward, and closing down higher up the pitch, we would have won that game.

But as everyone is making the same excuse, including our manager.....Man U are the best and Celtic are not good enough (in other words...*.......) to compete with them......why do we even bother?:97:

theres always sum * who will moan no matter what

Man U pass the ball so well we were chasing it a lot and in turn became tired. considering the class they clearly have in there team i thought we done extremely well to hold out that long as it was backs to the wall.

most of our team played to the best of their abilitys and any one of them could have got man of the match but thats not good enough for you and you make it sound so like it should have been easy for us, get a grip.

We drew 1-1 ,so we competed ,and held the euro champs for 80mins ,if celtic had opened up im sure man utd would have found it way to easy ,GS got it right in my book ,i dont like watching celtic play defensely ,but when you play a team like that ,you havent got an option .

Man utd are a great team to watch ,im not sure of the stats of the game ,but im sure ,the possesion ,goal attempts ,corners etc ,all went in there favour ,but they dont win you games ,celtic played a great game ,the only game they could have ,without getting slaughtered ,so hats off to strachan ,we got a 1-1 ,and are still in with the slightest of chances ,but thats down to how villareal handle there next 2games ,playing us and man utd ,its not over yet :50:

Sorry mate but I don't know what match you saw as being there I saw it differently. We took the game to them for most of the first half.........I was amazed that we kept going at them and when the first half ended my thoughts were that they're going to come out in a different gear and gub us.............and they did up a gear. I would say that we went backs to the wall in the final 25 mins where the had 70% of possession. Our players had by that time given all they had to give.

I actually feel much more positive about our chances of progressing after having seen that our team do have the b***s to put up a fight. Man U superiority wasn't in question but rather did our lot have it in them. We do lack quality but thank * we don't lack spirit. BROONEY was IMMENSE :celt_2:

How can you attack a team who for the majority of the second half had 4 forwards on the park... they went Man for Man with our back line making it impossible or suicidal to attack at any great length.

We did well though mate its hard to play against a team as good as man u, we defended well all night and we nearly got the win, it was no disgrace holding probably one of the best teams in europe at the moment.

we were lucky bhoys, lets face it they are in a different class to us. we had 2 chances last night and took one of them, if they'd taken there's we would have get stuffed. great result but we got played off the park and they weren't even at full strength

When St Mirren beat Rangers they got well deserved praise and so should we as it's a similar gap between Man U and Celtic.

A good few of our players have hardly been regulars in the last year or wouldnt have been playing had our squad ben fully fit.

It was an exceptional result, Donati Odea Sheridan Hutchison have hardly featured this season.

No JVH Naka Aiden Sammy Crossas Loovens, we done good

i agree abit, we defended too deep and all the united fans our mocking us for it, but we couldnt do anything else, if we had samaras or JVOH it would have been a different story mate....

Just put this one under the bag and at least our home record is intact.

I can understand why some of you thought we did "immense", however as someone else has made a comparison, let me too...
When the Huns were playing like that and putting 10 men behind the ball, they got pelters for it, when any team puts 10 men behind the ball against us, we always moan. Can't have it both ways lads.

We played superb for the first 20 minutes, then out of nowhere we started the same old style we always revert to against these teams, especially away from home....we cut the pitch in half and play in our half.

Yes, we were backs against the walls, but we didn't have to. We could have kept coming at them, we had 5 guys in the midfield at one point, and it looked like we had 8 defenders for most of the second half.

The way we could have prevented this, was to control the midfield, but our player did not even try to, they backed off and gave man U the stage as it were.

When a team is defending, then they are not attacking, and that is how we should have played most of the game, not nab a goal, then put 10 men on the edge of the box and block everything. we stopped closing down in the midfield, and allowed Man U to attack up very high up the pitch. Our captain should have been pushing the players up the park at every opportunity.

Let me put it this way.......Why do you lot think we are so bad away from home in the CL ? Watch our style of play.....we are too afraid of conceding that we forget to play the Celtic way and attack.....

bottom line is a 1-1 draw is i fantastic result against possibly the greatest manchester united side ever.and it means we are still in with a chance of going through, which i think we will ow do. a win for celtic and man utd on matchday 5 take it down to a the match at home against villarreal, and with the 12th man behind the bhoys we can win by two clear goals,im confident we can

I pretty much agree with that, i did not enjoy watching that match at all. If that was away from home i would not be so bothered. The thing is i have never seen a celtic team in history play in such a way, for such a long time at home. Any time even in recent season when we have played teams full of world class players we have not been made to look like a lower league team.

I said earlier celtic played the only way they could have last night ,and that GS got it right ,im sticking by that ,but if mcgeady ,crossas, samaras ,jvoh ,naka ,had been playing ,it would have been different .

The celtic bench last night was like who ,yes naka was available ,but GS knew that game wasnt for him ,celtic scored ,and GS never flinched a muscle ,why because he knew what was coming ,and i think he got it right ,if that team had opened up last night ,i really think celtic would have got beaten easily ,respect to the manager i think .

i'm not saying we dont deserve praise, we nearly hung on for a win against the best team in the world IMO but we hung on, we didn't take the game to unnited and on another day they'd have scored 4

I kinda agree with celticniall. Yes, we held out against the champions of Europe, and all congrats for that, but I know, although I haven't watched the match for the most part, that the reason for us not taking 3 points was too early withdrawal. Closing down the whole match would have been much better, as it's extremely dangerous to just sit back and let MU play.

There is not 1 Celtic player last night that can be critised for the couragous display. However the tactics adopted for the last 20 mins led to us being lucky to get away with even a point. When u invite the european champions to have a go at your penalty box for 70 minutes there is only going to be 1 outcome and thats goals.

To deep, get into them...blah blah blah.
I for one would like just once for celtic to go charging at man u/chelsea/liverpool all guns blazing.....and get a few goals,And then when we lose * 7-3 some people on here will get to grips with the fact sometimes when you play a better team than you can field you have to show them respect, this aint the * spl.
    Charge forward at your pearl.....man u 7 roma 1 springs to mind:97:

The only way we were going to get any kind of result out of that game was employing the tactics that we saw last night. We were five minutes away from a win and a draw, in the circumstances, is a decent result against such a top class side.
