Martin. I can understand where you're coming from.

But I also think you are tending to take some of the posts on here far too seriously. This is an internet forum where people come to chat about all sorts of stuff, the same way as they would do in the regular world - in fact this forum is called the 'pub' and if you want to hear John Smeaton jokes, you'll hear them in any pub in Scotland - all made by people who, just because they joke about it, don't necessarily want the man dead.

You just can't afford be uber-offended at every post that doesn't adhere to your own personal moral code - we are not all so graced as you as to have an imprint of those ideals so well developed in us that they dictate our (informal) codes of conduct on here.

The people who make those jokes, if they were to go and see Smeato lying there in his hospital bed in person, would obviously not find it a laughing matter when they are there in front of him, all hooked up to machines. Or do you know otherwise?

They might even take him up a bunch of grapes and a bottle of Lucozade.

    :yeah:

You mention tolerance and humility, well maybe you should exercise a little of that in this thread yourself - because so far, you're not. The people you are criticising for their behaviour have just as much right to criticise you for yours, which is just as extreme from a certain point of view. :50:

There is nothing 'extreme' about asking people to practice what they preach. Celtic fans can be very quick to complain of bigotry and yet put forward bigoted views themselves. As Tictoot said 'we are supposed to be the better half of Glasgow'.

RE sick jokes, believe me I love a good sick joke.

    EDIT

Not tolerating bigotry doesn't make me intolerant.

I agree...... :97: I've never been accused nor accused anyone of being "hunnish" all I did was express annoyance that that tag is thrown around whenever someone disagrees with another on a social issue.

Lighten up, man. I've never seen you post an up beat or positive comment. (Before you quip I understand that I haven't read all your comments, this is merely an observation)

Very well Martin, I can see there is no reasoning with you. :50:

Now back to Smeato. Get well soon. :icon_mrgreen:

I am very easy to reason with. Bigotry is not reasonable though.

I will quip, there's nearly 7800 of them. Plenty are very positive.

Sorry if I can't be positive about bigotry.

I'm just flabbergasted at what your point has been replying to me. Can you ask me something so that I can clarify what has obviously been an unclear argument? Are you calling me a bigot?

You've refused to respond to one part of every single post of mine which states that my biggest annoyance is when people brandy that tag at someone for just disagreeing. Will you at least agree with me that that's annoying, as it reduces the emotion and meaning behind what being compared to the "other side" really means? (Again, I'm not talking about legitimate bigotry, just when people disagree with each other on a social issue).

Neither is the graphic and gory depiction of a man losing his life due to his head exploding, if you want to go down that route.

Do you realise that young and impressionable minds browse this forum too?

That picture could be interpreted as horrific content by any mother on here and she could very well complain about it - would she be wrong in doing so?

    I don't know - I don't have the answer - just some food for thought chief. :50:

Yes, she would be wrong. The rules of the board make it clear that there is * content on the board and if you are easily offended the board is not for you.

I would have thought that you found my avatar entirely appropriate for me.

It is from a Cronenberg movie called Scanners.

I know what movie it's from. I'm just providing an example of the kind of behaviour that you're exhibiting, only directed towards yourself. I don't care about your avatar, but it might offend some people. I don't know.

But if she's in the wrong, then you're just as much in the wrong for challenging and accusing people of bigotry on here for what they post re. Smeato. :50:

Well I believe I found the problem. When I said "people slip" I meant from the "Saint-like behavior" I mentioned in a post above what I quoted... I didn't mean they slip into bigotry or anything like that, just that nobody is perfect. This was stemming from my first statement that it's annoying when people throw that insult around for meaningless arguments, not, say, from this thread but it was just something grating on me.

So while I was saying that people slip up and sin every once in a while you (I believe) thought I was saying people slip up and act bigoted, which is much more serious than what I was talking about. I hope I've clarified enough, if not, meh... it's late, just know that at least I understand your argument and I agree with the message you are saying.

I didn't think it was that bad. We are only arguing about peoples' reaction to the news... it's not like we went to some unrelated story.

If you think it needs cleaning up, though, then sorry for being a big contributor to the derailment. :52:

    it's the arguing that I don't like personally....if no-one else has a problem with it...I take it back :celt_2:

Your analogy simply doesn't stand up.

'Die in your sleep dobby *' has no ambiguity. It is bigoted bile.
