There’s no question that there will be a rebuild next season. Rodgers is almost guaranteed to leave and several players we’ve arguably already kept too long will want to move on. Maeda (although he’ll probably be off in January), Hatate, probably CCV and possibly even AJ.

The worry is who replaces Brendan and if they’re properly backed. It worked under Ange because he had the Japanese connection and a very clear idea of the players needed to fit into his system. Depending on who we get this time, if it’s more of a head coach type who has to rely on our scouting and recruitment operations for signings, that’s a very sobering thought.

Possibly one of the worst periods since we lost the league

I think we are in deeper trouble than what we realise. The disconnect between the Club and the support is a yawning chasm. We have unsettled and dissatisfied players in the squad who clearly want away, Rodgers is almost certainly in his last year of his contract, and may go sooner, it's anybody's guess. In a 4 way contest for the league, a six point lead is in no way uncatchable, and the likes of the Huns, Hearts and Hibs will see us at our weakest and most vulnerable, and will be ready to pounce. Johnson and Jota out until around the New Year, the squad is pretty threadbare and lacking quality. With McGregor and Schemeichel regressing rapidly, two mainstays of the team, and Rodger's head in the clouds, we are in deep trouble.

    He’ll surely try…

A Maeda that doesn’t try would be worse than a man down as his effort is all he’s got! You’d genuinely get better technical ability out of the stand

I think regardless who replaces Brendan we are in a very tricky space. Even saying all of Tierney, Nygren, Balikwisha, Tounekti and even Iheanacho are between serviceable to good, which is a big assumption.

    You still have

    - Schmeichel
    - Johnston
    - Sarrachi (loan ends)
    - JSP (loan ends)
    - CCV
    - Bernardo (if he keeps getting no game time)
    - Engels (big outlay only 2 years left on his deal at that point)
    - Hatate
    - Forrest (likely retire)
    - Yang
    - Maeda
    - Iheanacho (if option isn’t taken up)

That’s before you decide what to do with Inamura, Yamada, Holm, Nawrocki, Welsh, Montgomery and Palma who are just hanging about now really or out on loan.

    It leaves the club needing:

    - a new keeper at least good enough to be second choice or compete with Sinisalo for the no.1
    - a new first choice right back unless Donovan steps up this season if given a chance. I hope he does.
    - a new centre back possibly two
    - a left back who will either start or be back up to KT depending on how his fitness progresses.
    - a defensive midfielder to take over the ageing McGregor
    - at least a couple of attacking or box to box midfielders.
    - at least a couple of wingers particularly right sided.
    - at least two centre forwards.

So that’s 12 players minimum and we’re not talking guys to fill out the squad this is guys to be playing either starting or able to make an impact off the bench.

We couldn’t even sign a right winger and a striker this summer of the necessary calibre despite having the full summer. Or pick the phone up to sell Yang with a deal in place so how are we going to handle all that?

Explains his rotten body-language and his undercooked performances recently. Needs to pull himself together or clear off tbh. He can take his half-hearted penalties with him.

Sound certain he will want to go in January. I dont like players going public in these kind of scenarios - he is obviously fed up. Hoepfully Rodgers can keep him focussed for a few month.

Not going to kid on that I have any faith of us actually replacing him properly in January but you never know

Its understandable why he's put out there, it means next window everyone knows he wants off..

It should be no surprise and a professional elite minded club would be thinking about his replacement now.. oh wait.

Just hope the fans don't get on his back, with all he has contributed. It's not his fault, Nicholson can't do his job.

Of course, if he finds his form again, it shouldn't be an issue.

Still think it's harsh. We can't really expect everyone to stick around forever, especially someone who has come all the way from Japan. He has given us over 3 memorable years, while working his * off most of the time.

    That's down to him really.

Gets his head down, plays and puts in the effort we expect and it will be fine and he'll go happily in January or July.
Continues to look uninterested like he has so far this season and fans will deservedly get on his back

    Agreed

But he needs help. Others need to step up as well.

Nailed on favourites? You must be on the glue. That pissy wee 6 point gap means nothing after 4 games. That squad we have just now is utter *. We'll drop plenty of points. If huns get their act together or give Martin his jotters they'll walk to the title. Their squad is easily better than ours, especially up front. Hope I'm wrong but we've already started gift wrapping the league title for those * this year.

I don't think he will. The backlash and heat is going to be firmly focused on Dermot Desmond and his board Cronies. As long as Daizen Maeda keeps putting 100% into every performance he has in the hoops and hopefully starts to find the net more regularly he will be fine and I have little doubt he will do just that. He has always come across as a stand up professional who gives his all for the team. Hopefully he can score enough goals to keep us clear until January and then assuming he leaves at that point its with him having given his all and he can look back with enormous pride on what he has done in the hoops and helped us accomplish as a team.
