Sutton played for Villa by all accounts was doing well and was being offered a long term contract until he got a career ending eye injury.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Agathe was left to rot on our bench for a season, IMO it was scandalous, he also went to villa a year after WGS arrived and had an un-successful season, and he is now playing in France.

Thomson was another player who was left to rot on the bench after years of fine service, none more than the season prior to WGS´s arrival. Went on to captain Leeds Utd for two seasons. Granted he was a wee bit long in the tooth but should and would have contributed to WGS´s first season if given the chance.

As I said mate it´s all about opinions, I think these players were treated shockingly and should have contributed for at least a season. Later Jiri Jarosik IMO was not given a fair crack either.

As for you not picking BBJ in you best 11 is somewhat a strange decision IMO . However that´s your opinon mate of which I can respect.

Ellboy, agathe's attitude for whatever reason stunk, did you watch the reserve games?
Thomson was terrible in MON's last season as well as GS's first if i remember right. I didn't see him as much of a loss.
Jarosik was a * enigma, his best spell was just before he was punted. He did suggest when he left that the coaching was suspect at the club.

Sutton went on to score 2 goals. One each for both Villa and Birmingham.

Agathe went on to play 5 games.

Thompson went to the lower leagues in England to play for Leeds.

Imo WGS made the correct decisions on each of these players.

I feel you're right about JJ though. I was just starting to like what he had to offer especially in Europe when we sold him.

No I didn´t see Agathe in the reserves, was his attitude suspect straight off the bat or a few months in to the season?

As for the other players, Lubo I have given long winded opinions for the reasons they were left out and eventualy moved on(on numerous threads). Their are other examples but I am not looking to go over old ground, just to say I agree with you about the coaching aspect, however from what I know their have also been many personality clashes (hence the need for confidentiality agreements) .

Agathe was injured for the first couple of months ellboy, but his attitude was stinking, the rumour was he was unhappy that Balde Thommo etc. were all rewarded with big contracts and he wasn't?

As for the personality clashes, i'd bet my bottom dollor on that, however, GS's coaching methods may have played quite a role, again just speculation, but i heard MON gave them the afternoon off and employed plenty of ball work, whereas GS worked much harder on fitness, and favoured the players who returned in the afternoon for extra training.

I think your right KD Odea may well have turned out to be an ever present if given a fair crack.

I bow to your greater knowledge on the contract rumour, I haven´t heard that one before. Also from my recollection I remeber Agathe was fit for most of that season, however your telling me he was injured for the first few months. For some reason I don´t remeber that at all. All I can remeber was being livid at seeing a flying machine sitting on the bench.

On this Lubo, like everyone else I´ve heard numerous wee rumours, some have no truth. However some seem to be accurate, a long while back I heard that outgoing players were being asked to sign confidentiality agreements. It seems this rumour is true, going by TG and now the stories with Bobo. When you think about it some players who were very vocal while at Celtic (thinking of Sutton and Thomson in particular) have not uttered a word about their time at the club, that´s a wee bit strange. Do you not think?

To be honest i just thought they were keepin stump out of respect for the club and fans, stupid of me as its now pretty obvious that confidentiality agreements are being forced on some outgoing players.

Whats a confidentiality agreement worth do you think ,being serious , and how long would it last ,why im asking is players now make a lot of money via autobiographs so they must make a few bob from the agreement

i know mate was a struggle but as i said i picked the players on overall ability not jus under Strachan.

and as good as they both are jus couldnt fit them in same for Alan Thompson who i thought was jus aclass act during O'Neil's time.

would be one helluva bench tho :50:

No idea Kenny, thing is if they want to move on, the club could make it an obstacle.

MON once said that Didier Agathe was lazy on the training field. He said that he also knew that when Saturday came Agathe would run himself into the ground thus justifying his selection. I don't think WGS has anytime for such characters, its more a case of what you show him to get your shirt imo. He hasnt really seemed to have had any favourites who should have been ousted unlike MON who had his tried and tested and would not budge.....

On the other hand my team would be....

..........................Boruc

Telfer....... Caldwell..... McManus..... Naylor

.........................Lennon
Naka......... Robson........ Petrov....... McGeady

.........................Hartson

Subs.
Skippy
Maloney
Wilson
Jarosik

Who has or did really stand out as a viable option for those?

Telfer was great at what he did, he allowed Naka the freedom to go and do his own thing. He was able to get forward when possible and wasnt caught too far forward often. IMO we have missed him since he left as we have struggled with the full backs. For 100,000 or what ever he cost he served a marvellous purpose.

Caldwell has as WGS said previously turned out to be our best CB. He is at times a bombscare but i feel his perseverence has paid off and we are now looking at an established member of the team.

Mick was and is decent. There have been no possible replacements for him nor Caldwell. Balde was completely bombed out, Presselly was too slow, O'Dea too young/ naive/ unconvincing.

Wilson started well after signing however has been hampered by injury ever since, he does need games to get fit however. After Telfer went we had no other RB untill Hinkle... we did see Hartley etc play there at times!

JVoH again no viable replacements... Killen is * and Riordan too light to play up with McDonald.

I thought sutton left because his new contrac offer was around half his wage packet...???....i think most managers want to ship out alot of the team they take over and put his stamp on the team, just wgs has done it about 3 times:56: i think he is yet to buy and play his best 11:34:
