I do find the snobbery towards the europa a bit rich, from our support tbh.

I'd argue whether we are even conference level right now.

  2. Let's be honest, no one gives a * about the Europa League and we'll still give a poor account of ourselves. We'll take at least one battering and we'll have draws against diddy teams we should be humping. We've all seen the script in advance.

If we had any ambition in Europe I'd be quite excited for a go at the EL. But the penny pinching this summer is what will make it feel flat.

Agreed. Under different circumstances we'd all be buzzing for a potential EL run. As it is we'll be lucky to qualify for the next round.

It's all we have got left now, so we should make a real go of it, and see what happens.
The Huns got to the Final of it, so why not us too ?
No laughing at the back please. :BR1:

    I agree.

But I feel like this always happens regardless. Even if we have a slightly stronger squad.

Folk coming out with it being an "unwanted distraction" etc :giggle1:.

This is a club that hasn't won a euro knockout tie since 2004.

I currently feel as if I can't be arsed with the Europa League but I suppose that will change once we have seen the draw etc however, if our board are still playing funny c*unts and continuing to hold our club back, I definitely won't be buying any packages for it

I think if we went into the Europa automatically there would be more buzz about it.

The problem is we usually go in after a soul destroying exit in CL which puts the entire club on morale downer.

We arent even resourced to have any sort of tilt in Europa either. Further European pain awaits I fear.

I'm not interested in it because there's no prestige in being there, it's only in doing well in it, which we won't do. If we were good enough to win it, we'd be in the Champions league. Even if we improved, I could see us getting eliminated early on.

No, pot 2. But it doesn't really matter because you get 2 teams from all 4 pots no matter.

list of pots as it stands

I'd probably want RBS and Dynamo from pot 1 (maybe Villa if they sell all their players this week),

On a personal note, regarding teams we might beat and trips I'd like to take, I'd hope for:

    1) Lille, Salzburg
    2) Red Star, Basel
    3) Bologna, Celta Vigo
    4) Brann, Panathanaikos (if they play like they did against the Huns)

A nice spread of decent trips in there...

Edit: obviously need to wait for the pots to fully know who's available and the most favoured choices

See the draw we could have got

Kairat Almaty: Real Madrid (h), Inter (a), Club Brugge (h), Arsenal (a), Olympiakos (h), Sporting (a), Pafos (h), Copenhagen (a)

I'd have taken that draw, we should have been on for 10+ points there

Europa League is far easier to go far in than it was before the changes.

Sadly we haven’t and won’t strengthen enough to go on a significant run.

Can't beat Kairat and you'd expect us to finish with +10 points against far superior teams?

I really don't understand this though. It comes across like something a fan of Arsenal or Man United fan would say.

Its a European competition and most of the sides in it are far better than us.

I don't care about prestige of the UCL as 9 times out of 10 we get humped. Mind you that'll probably happen here as well.

That’s 4 very hard away games and we aint beating Madrid of Brugge. Be lucky to pick up 4 points from that at the moment.

I actually think Kairat would pick up more, teams will really struggle going there with the miles, altitude and pitch. It’s like Livi away on steroids a few years back.

I'm no saying that a guaranteed but that's what should have been a realistic target

    Madrid - 0
    Inter - 0
    Brugge - 1
    Arsenal - 0
    Olympiakos - 3
    Sporting - 1
    Pafos - 3
    Copenhagen - 3

That's 11, Brugge is a game we can be winning, we were unlucky with the draw last year after gifting them a goal. Olympakos and Copenhagen would be balanced games but are both ones we should fancy ourselves against. Anything from Real, Inter or Arsenal would be a bonus.

With the lack of reinforcements and * play We've had this year that would be ambitious, if we recruited properly in this week to actually get some players for the CL it would not be beyond the realms of possibility.
