Brendan Rodgers Discussion Thread

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Lewis Kerr, Jun 19, 2023.

  1. I said in the summer if he didn't get his transfers in he was going to throw toys out the pram and make a point. Both him and the board are in a battle of egos

  2. There was only one club trying to win that game. It’s very easy to sit in and do next to nothing. What we needed was players to create something from the forward areas and we had Yang and a 34 year old Forrest.

  3. I agree to an extent. I also thought our full backs and midfielders were poor. There was no movement ahead. My worry is that if we can't progress through the midfield better we'll struggle even with better wingers

  4. Ok, well he could have move Nygren wide and played his 11m midfielder. Or played Maeda wide and started his 9m striker.

Doesnt really matter how you chop it. He couldnt score a goal over 2 legs against a small team spending a fraction of what he has had to spend.

    Thats solely on Rodgers.

  5. Did Rodgers also sign Inamura, Osmand, Yang, Kwon, Yamada and the rest of the drivel that's come in? The club are making the signings, not Rodgers. I'd be very surprised if he's doing any scouting himself. It's the recruitment dept who are bringing these players in..he's there coaching them. If they're not starting then he clearly thinks they're not good enough

  6. It’s not solely on Rodgers.

Again, he doesn’t set the price for players. Maybe if the board allowed someone with experience to come in and run the footballing department, we wouldn’t be forced to overspend on players at the end of the window.

  7. What do you mean when you say “come on with the Yamada” stuff mate? Too much of a gamble do you mean I’m guessing? I don’t get that at all. Idah was never an option as he’s a man down. Putting Yamada through the middle (after Saturday), Nygren wide right & Maeda wide left was the obvious choice to me especially after JF’s 1st leg showing.

  8. * him and his "cold war" *. We've had 1.5 good seasons of football under him.

  9. Spot on. These players are only costing us what they are because those doing the dealings are incompetent as *. And regardless of the cost of them, we sold our right winger for £20m in the summer then just didn’t even attempt to replace him. Forcing us to rely on a done James Forrest and one of the worst players I can remember ever having played for Celtic.

  10. Kenny is a goal scorer he would have scored one of the pens

  11. No one forced him to play those players tho

Good managers change shape and formations to suit their players.

Aye it's on the board for not getting players in to fit his system but when he then doesn't get them it's * idiotic of him to play the same shape with those options

  12. Martin O’Neil on prime back Handely criticised Rodgers penalty taker selections and rightly so

  13. That's kind of my point, he's been allowed to spend big on signings and they haven't panned out. You're crazy if you think it was the board that were pushing to spend 11m and 9m in fees. You can blame the rest on the board (and you should) but I've no doubt those three were his signings and they were all bad buys.

What * quality has Rodgers shown in the last 9 months? * all.

  14. He did that indeed the press conferences leading upto the game last week he should have just said no comment he fuelled the fire so it became about him and the board and not the game

  15. Ok, but then in what situation does Rodgers ever take any blame? Because if he gets plaudits for losing to Bayern over two legs, but doesnt get criticism for losing to Kaibat over two legs, it feels like he cant be criticised.

Leaving aside our 20m dud duo, we are still a team with Tierney, CCV, McGregor, Maeda, Bernardo, Schmeichel, in it. All guys with way more pedigree and paid way more than those Kaibat players.

  16. He's never a top manager, surely people figured that out last season when the huns dominated us. Went out and played the same way in every game and they bullied us in every game.

He's tactically poor. If he had the same budget as someone like Derek McInnes, I doubt he would do a better job than him tbh.

His style of football can be decent, but rarely has been since the middle of last season.

Do you risk it though ? If he had mentally checked out then we'll play like this all season. Feel like if he's happy we play far better but when things aren't going his way, the football turns to *.

  17. He doesnt really change anything. The line up is one thing. Yang is very hit or miss and today he was a miss. But hes excruciatingly slow to change anything about our approach.

Today as an example was crying out for mixing it up and going more direct. They were bang average at the back and had tons of mistakes in them. The pitch was a cabbage patch and hard to pass on. Yet we waste most of the game trying short passing build ups that was coming unstuck time and game. Its beyond frustrating watching this lacklustre passing and sloppy build up play go nowehere without even trying a few direct balls in behind. Id be positive it would have milked a mistake or two from the defence or led to some second balls we could work with by getting us further up the pitch. He waited as long as possible to make subs.

Hes obviously not happy about the quality of player available, and rightfully so, but I get a real sense he never really looks at what he can do differently himself.

Two cracks at Almaty - couldnt score a goal.

No wins over 90 mins in the last 4 games v a poor Rangers side

    A squandered Cup final.

The majority of players look like they are regressing. The tactics look predictable.

New players of course will help. But we need better from Rodgers too.

  18. Forrest shouldn’t have started even with the limited options. Neither should Yang. That’s on the manager.

  19. The more I think about it, the more it becomes clear why our team is full of shitebags. Their leaders is one as well. Rodgers' a shitebag that totally * the bed when he needed to agree securities with the board concerning transfer dealings. He knew how they work, he left the first time because of that and he still had no backbone to agree terms that guarantee him a different behaviour. Is his stock so low that he has to do that? Then we better look for a better manager.

Oh yeah. Nearly forgot, the people in charge of hiring a new manager are the same useless * :giggle1:
