Brendan Rodgers Discussion Thread

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Lewis Kerr, Jun 19, 2023.

  1. Rodgers ain't silly, you watch. The way he states things to the media will shift a little, cleverly wording statements. Perhaps even backing off the more obvious digs hes made about the board in the last few weeks/month, temporarily atleast.

He knows full well that if a job comes up in the EPL, and the right compensation package is offered to the club, the clube will accept and he will be off before this season is done and this time round it will all be maneuvered in such a way that Rodgers can then give one final dig at the board and the fans will lap it up about how he said before, if Celtic want to maintain he ain't the guy, if Celtic want to progress then he is... evidently they decided I'm not the guy etc... and we've a differing opinion on what is progress.

I do not see him seeing out this season at all.

Think Rodgers is at the stage where he has to trust the board will come up trumps and get the players in he wants.

Different from last time where there aren’t sly jabs or anything, just holding them accountable to their word in the media and keeping the PR side happy.

Hopefully turns out well but just such a massive risk for the board to take when so unnecessary.

He's looking relaxed to me which is a slight relief. Obviously injury wise we're struggling but I do subscribe to the idea that someone else can come in and look to take their chance.

Praying he can steady the ship, get us through tomorrow and Tuesday then get some much needed bodies in the door. If he can get us through the next month without any calamities he'll deserve massive praise.

    Here's hoping.

Honestly , not surprised this point if it * up, * the board and he knows that. He’ll get what he can out the squad, and the pressure of the fans going mad at the board who were at the game and him almost shielding them after the game. He either gets what he wants and deserves by the end of the window or if he doesn’t, then it’s a free pass really, past the point that the obvious mouth at the club will get it.

He will get some criticism, he’s also good enough to deal with it and trudge along excruciatingly and still have a trophy or two. Or guys come in it kicks up, we play like we can when he’s happy and has the players there

And either way, by now it’s pretty much a guarantee, he sails away at the end of the season. Having done the three years he’s said, and more than that the fans calling back to his statements about ambition and those in charge not measuring up….

Rodgers personally is in a very relaxed position. And he’s * played a blinder with that tbh, while not saying a word that’s out of line and untrue.

Reading between the lines, there seems to be a real disconnect between the board and BR. Looking at the players we have signed this summer, as well as the players linked and it makes sense to me if they have come to him with players in the sub 5M bracket that he has looked at and said no thanks. No better than what we have. The board, in turn, look at the players BR wants who are in a different cost bracket that they are comfortable operating in, and says no! Thus, we have this stalemate and lack of activity.
The bottom line is the board either needs to sack him or back him. Leaving things in limbo land is, as we have already seen, a recipe for disaster.

They don't need to do anything, he isn't going to walk away, he'll do this season and then he'll go.

That's the problem, impotence is what this board does best! But if they have the best interests of the club at heart, then something has to give. I don't hold much hope though and sadly I predict BR moves on before they do.

Aye you’re spot on I bet. But at the same time from the boards point of view. Look who Rodgers wanted and they went big on for him? Trusty, Engels and Idah. It’s to be seen whether or not they’re actually good signings yet.

whereas we usually have successes in the lower cost, players with potential market that our scouts provide.

I can totally understand the stalemate…. But it helps absolutely no one.

then you add into the issue that our scouts provide players but whoever does the transfer dealings offers 1/10th of their value to the players club! (breum)

The issue for me is, you can't trust them to get a replacement in quickly.. an elite club starts searching now..

Our board probably thinking Broonie will do.

It'll be Brown or Chris Davies.

    Or Owen Coyle.

  16. I can’t see a scenario where he stays at the club beyond this season.

There was all that talk when he returned about long sit down meetings and assurances by the board about how our recruitment was different now, yet we’ve signed what, 25 players under Rodgers and barely one or two are first team starters.

Take out Tierney and Kasper and all our best, most impactful players are from Ange’s time or before. McGregor, Hatate, CCV, Johnston, Maeda, even Forrest. He’s been so let down man.

I think in some ways it's a relief for Rodgers that this will be his last season, his public criticism of the Board is the spade work for his eventual departure.

Those that never wanted him back in the first place will be glad to see him go, but he is a manager who knows how to win trophies, something we have taken for granted for a long time now.

The likes of JK or Maloney won't be in the conversation, this is a job that needs experience.

I'm not advocating for him but you could easily make the argument that Kennedy has plenty of experience. By all accounts he's brilliant at what he does too.

The thing is mate that dosen't always translate to management and all the pressures that go with being at the front of the stage and not a backing singer.

Managerial experience is vital imo, would be a different scenario if JK went and earned his spurs elsewhere to return at a later date, but Celtic not a club to cut your managerial teeth.

Yeah, I think management and coaching are very different. There are some excellent coaches who just don't have what it takes to become a manager. I actually think Kennedy would make an very good manager but I do feel like he needs to go out and learn the ways of managing a club before getting the gig here.

There would be countless clubs who would take him on, you would think. He's had interest from Hibernian and was it a Danish team before? Obviously, I think if Rodgers does go at the end of the season, he's unlikely to stick around with another manager because you would hope the board would allow any future manager the decision on who he brings in as staff.
