Just don't get this at all. We've a scouting setup headed by a guy, Tisdale, who supposedly has some mad recruitment algorithm that's meant to be pretty reliable in finding players to suit what we're doing.

We also have a manager that prides himself on improving players with his coaching methods and man-management. So why the pushback on players we've scouted, making thinly veiled threats about lack of ambition and wanting to throw all sorts of money for a 38 year old striker he's worked with before, no doubt looking for mega money?

You then look at Daizen Maeda, a guy who's off the back of a POTY season, 30 odd goals and absolutely lethal in the box...but the manager refuses to acknowledge it, instead looking elsewhere when the answer is right under his nose.

He's starting to do my * in Rodgers. Not that Vardy will be * or that, he'll score plenty and be a help to the younger guys, but looks to me like Rodgers' head is all over the shop. For all the board are getting it in the neck the now, BR is getting an easy time of it imo.

But who we have to take the place of Jota?

One of the many LW targets we've been looking at? Even if we're waiting till the last week or whatever, work towards it with premise that Daizen will be first choice striker when the LW position is sorted. Bringing Vardy in basically confirms he'll be keeping Daizen out wide. It's blind as * man.

Totally agree. Vardy is throwing money away, Maeda with good service can be deadly.

It wouldn't be a mad idea to get someone in that will compete with Jota when he's back.

    But we'll see.

Vardy with the same service as Maeda would score as many goals.

I'm not massively excited about this but he's still a great finisher. Something I'm still not convinced that Maeda is tbh.

We need wingers regardless of this situation anyway.

Putting Maeda up front doesn't solve a problem it simply moves it. I agree Maeda is our best striker at the moment but he's also our best winger. I think it's fairly clear Rodgers is as frustrated as the rest of us with how this window has played out

If we sign Vardy I would hazard a guess that BR won't be here next season. He stated that if the club wants to grow then he would be manager, signing 38yr old Vardy doesn't scream to me long-term growth. I'm against signing him, he's too old for the financial outlay and definitely does not advance us in the longer term.

It's less about solving a problem than it is playing a guy in a position he has proved he excels in. I also addressed your point about him being our best winger before you made it; if we can't afford to move him just now then at least be working towards it. Bringing in Vardy puts an end to it completely which is madness.

You think the club are forcing Vardy on the manager?

His age is the only number that worries me. He never gets injured, and still scores goals at the highest level.

I'm not buzzing to sign him but id rather he didn't go to the huns because I think he'd improve them massively.

We should be signing him AND another striker anyway. We seriously lack goals up front.

Yamada will need time. Idah is....Idah. Osmand should go on loan as well as Kenny.

Vardy is the type that I could see grabbing a goal when are struggling away against St Mirren or something. He'd be a right pain in the * for the opposition. Can totally see why folk see it as underwhelming but he would 100% help us out over the course of a season even if it is short term gain and can guarantee he'd be a cult hero. Defoe did similar for the Huns and I hated him for it.

Aye but the worst teams in that league are better than every team in our league :56:

So he's dropping down a level and will probably score 40 from the bench. We create chances and he doesn't hit corner flags. Match made in cheap lawells cheque book.

I wouldn't be against him coming to us at all. I think he could do a job and help us in the short term. Look at Joe Hart and Shmeichel (ok I know their goalies), but he'd get us through.

But it's really short term thinking and that's what's worrying me. We've no idea what Jota will be like when he's back. That's our primary goal rather than an expensive one season striker.

He’d score up here for a season, and he’d endear himself to the support due to his work rate and never say die style of play.

It really shows you where we are at as a club though.

Keeper and striker are the gaffers pals and that’s the only reason they are here.

Like when one of your mates takes over a Sunday league team and asks if you’ve got another year in your legs.

Except this is Celtic, and we’re an elite, professional football club.

    Allegedly.

In a vacuum there’s absolutely nothing wrong with this.

The negativity stems from the lack of transfer activity of the summer. However, us not addressing the glaring holes on the wing doesn’t detract from the fact that he still knows where the goal is and would score goals for us. I’m for it.

Not at all, more a case of BR knowing its his final season and just wants to go out a winner so scraping a squad together in order to get it over the line come May

Obviously pure speculation on my part but bringing In a 38yr old striker doesn't scream long term planning.

We’ll probably still try and sign him on loan despite him being a free agent.

I think this one has legs. Brendan is a big admirer of Vardy.
Vardy would put bums on seats, and he knows where the pokey is.

    It's a No Brainer.
