He's great as a squad option but * me can we all at least agree he shouldn't be starting the first 2 league games of the season . There's a reason teams back off and give him time on the ball. As a pure defender he's absolutely fine but as soon as he sees more of the ball than anyone else on the park then we start to have issues.

The SPL makes up 67% of our season alone. I can't find that information on the site you named. It's very simply for you to link it. I just wonder what your fear is. Maybe you fabricated the stats. I don't have any fear or reluctance to link you where mine came from, I just wondering what prompts your fear?

The point you make about CCV covering for him when he carries the ball up the pitch shows how little you know about football. It's got nothing to do with covering, we play a high press game, possession losses are pressed all over, we don't leave a defender back to save everything - complete and utter nonsensical point. The reason Scales carries the ball forward is because he's the best of the ball if Carter Vickers does it Scales sits - that's how it works and the reason Scales does it more frequently is because he's the best at it. It's more natural to his game because maybe you didn't know this but he played a lot of his early football for Shamrock Rovers and Ireland U21s as a left back. You are just exposing yourself as football illiterate at this point.

And why is Scales 10 yards further up the pitch than CCV?

Well funnily enough, I’d like to see the stats for 100% of the season if that’s ok.

I know he played left back. A position he’s not suited for, he looked liked he’d never touched a football before when he moved left on Sunday. That’s why I brought it up.

CCV is covering. He’s deeper than Scales but he’s still up the field available for a pass. If Scales loses it, who’s job is it to recover? That’s what covering is.

For the millionth time. Scales role being the ball carrier from defence doesn’t mean he’s good at it or the right person for Celtic. You keep ignoring that point. This is why everyone wants an upgrade.

Too much ChatGPT responses by you, you’re tripping over yourself.

See if you Google FootyStats Liam Scales, it’s literally the first page that comes up, you then tab through by season. You’re football and internet illiterate apparently. There’s no fear, I’m just unsure what you actually want to check and wasn’t aware it was so hard to find (because it’s not).

CCV offers another angle, another option. Also to recover defensively if needed. It’s very simple, but you did lie about it. KT is in yards of space but he could easily be closed down. If he is, pass to CCV and reset.

    No more deflecting.

What’s brave about it and why did you tell me that the whole team wasn’t up the field, when they are?

It's impossible to try and educate someone who has the ego you have. You don't know what you're talking about, you can't substantiate anything you say. The reason Scales carries the ball a lot more than CCV is because he is better at it, the space is there and he drives forward with it. CCV gets it, he puts his foot on the ball, turns, left turns right and passes it sideways or backwards. All the stats pinpoint exactly that CCV is by far and away our most conservative player on the ball at the back. He keeps it short, he doesn't play through the lines, he doesn't attempt longer passes as frequently. He slows our play down but ironically enough its the illiterates like you who don't understand the game that blame Scales for doing the things CCV is a bigger culprit of.

When the stats are there and they are right in the face and they contradict every miscomprehension you have and you still have the arrogance and ego to ignore them and double down, it really says something about you.

And now we are getting somewhere, I have the link and I can examine. The WhoScored one actually differentiates between long passes and short passes which your ones don't. As CCV is the more conservative passer you'd expect him to have success rates. The stats once again outline Scales is far more progressive on the ball - more goals, more assists, more key passes, more expected assists, more successful dribbles, least dispossessions. How on earth could Scales rank ahead of CCV in all these parameters if CCV is better or more progressive on the ball? Scales also ranks ahead of Trusty on all these factors. How can that be? Can you explain?

You’ve clearly got an ego if you believe you’re educating anycunt.

Strawman argument now, using CCV’s ball playing as a measuring stick.

If you think all he does is put his foot on the ball, you’re wrong. He might not be as comfortable and it’s not his role, but he is perfectly capable of carrying the ball. The entire point is we need a proper ball playing CB, Scales isn’t that. Trusty is the better defender and overall player, so he should be playing.

I suggest you take a breather, go back and actually read the responses from people and listen to what we are saying.

Edit: Stop ignoring the other post.

It's not a strawman argument. Its on the subject. You are dismissing and ignoring independent and objective stats because they tear you subjective analysis.

Scales is no 1 in our centre backs in all the markers for progressive play on the ball, successful dribbles, assists, key passes, through balls - Scales leads in all of them. Again the defensive statistics undermine your assertion that Trusty is a better defender than Scales also. Scales wins much more aerial and ground duels. He is dribbled past less. He is ahead in the vast majority of these stats.

This is the point where you will want to disregard the stats though because they contradict all the very subjective analysis you make.

It is a strawman. Not one person has claimed CCV is a ball playing CB for us, so why are you bringing him up and making comparisons? They clearly have two different roles in the team. Scales isn’t good enough at his role.

Trusty is a better defender than Scales. That isn’t even a question. Use your eyes.

You’ve embarrassed yourself, so you’re ignoring my post about Sundays game and changing the argument completely.

The argument is Scales isn’t good enough, not Scales is the best ball playing CB in the squad. You * it by starting with the stats and it has backfired.

It's not a strawman. It's what Scales gets slaughtered for and it's what he's actually our most progressive defender.

Once again your subjective views are contradicted by the stats. The stats say that Scales is much stronger in the air, he is much stronger in the physical battles on the ground, he makes more clearances, concedes less goals per min when he is in the team as opposed to Trusty and is dribbled past less. These are all markers that Scales is stronger defensively. Trusty is a head of a few in terms of block and interceptions but that's it.

Again on the ball Scales is ahead in pretty much every passing marker bar long pass accuracy. He leads Trusty in terms of assists, exepcted assists, key passes, goals, through balls, successful dribbles.

So no matter what area you are looking at it the stats would have Scales over Trusty. You don't like that the independent and objective markers actually contradict the narrative you are desperately clinging to.

Scales has had two very good opening games to the season, the position is his to lose.

Scales is * and he was * on Sunday, lads. Far too much effort being put into a discussion about a player who shouldn't be starting for us.

IT’S NOT CCV’s ROLE. IT’S SCALES’ ROLE. Yes, he’s criticised for what he isn’t good at. Shock horror. Being the most progressive in the team doesn’t make you good at it.

You missed half my post and continue to ignore points that are made.

    That’s plenty.

Bollocks. He was solid on Sunday. Why is the bar set so high for him? He's not even allowed a stray pass or two? Why does CCV not get the same high bar?

It's not Scales role. He's just better at it than CCV is. CCV is very conservative on the ball, why does he get a free pass in slowing our build up play down and Scales get slaughtered for being more progressive on the ball. Why don't we give Scales the easier role of just defending which in a domestic level at least he has shown himself to be very good at and put the pressure of building the play at from the back to CCV?

The stats say Scales is a lot better at building the play from the back than Trusty? Is that not Trusty's role too when he partners CCV?

Carter-Vickers has been the most consistently good centre we've had at the club in a very long time, he rarely makes errors. Scales was great against St.Mirren, but * against Aberdeen.

Because CCV is the better defender.

Still waiting for you to go back and explain yourself.

    As I said, that’s plenty.

Absolute bollocks. He hit a few stray passes. He is far more aggressive and progressive on the ball than CCV who rarely tries to play through the lines. The one mistake he made all game was the pass he tried to thread through to Hatate and it got cut out. That's not a pass CCV make, it's not a mistake CCV makes as CCV will just pass the buck to someone else when it comes to building our play from the back.

I've no truck with CCV, he's our best defender but the notion than CCV was superb on Sunday and Scales was shocking is absolute horseshit of the highest degree. Only a person with an agenda could spout such nonsense. When you are confronted with such subjective nonsense, this is when the stats become important. Scales won the most aerial duels on the pitch. He actually won more than the entire Aberdeen team combined. Only McGregor had more accurate long balls in the entire match at 4 than Scales, he had the joint top no of clearances with Tierney at 6. His pass completion rate was 94.3%. None of that stats support the notion he was *.

Scales was MOTM against St Mirren and solid against Aberdeen Sunday.
