That fallacy has been actually doing the rounds in Irish football forums for a few years now. It stems from young, enthusiastic Ireland fans unwilling to accept that majority of Ireland’s players aren’t very good, as well as the fact that most of these gobshites only see Celtic play twice a year.

I'm dot doubting he took look risk passes, he actually completed 3 of his 4 long passes, CCV only completed 1.

The problem seems to be you expect Scales to use the ball like Pirlo or Busquets. He defended well yesterday and the factor he's getting slated for doesn't make any sense when you look at the statistics. Could Scales be better on the ball? Yes. Was he awful on it yesterday? No.

We have the same supporters who are on Scales back who pine for Nawrocki, Lagerbielke, Trusty etc?

It's not confined to Irish players either - the Scottish lads get it as well - Ralston and Taylor were other guys who have to endure the same nonsense Scales has to. I commented on it last week, we had supporters writing off our 22 year old striker who has played 166 minutes of competitive football for us and scored on his only start while pining for a 25 year old Japanese forward who had played 45 minutes of international footballl.

Do you not find it strange the same fans that slate Scales are the ones that pine for Nawrocki, Lagerbielke and Trusty? Nawrocki not even making the bench for a Bundesliga II side now.

Of course we could do better than him but he is starting on merit. It's the level of flak he comes in for that's the issue. Even when he plays well he is subject to abuse. Who should be starting ahead of him? If he maintains his form he won't be dropped anytime soon.
