I dont buy the let's see if we qualify. We have over £80m in bank, £20m plus already in trading profit. Record sponsorship deals. We could spend £35m this window and still turn some sort of profit and have over £65m in the bank.

Think after what’s been said today the damage has already been done for this season and others to come.

They have not backed Rodgers again and it’s like his last season in charge the first time.

All we are going to get last minute is loan deals and it will be even worse if we crash out of the champions league.

Rodgers will maybe see out the see out the season? There will be manager casualties down south and would you blame him walking again? No not at all.

Them Zombie * are adding to their side while we who have a massive pot in the bank are low balling sides and sleep walking into a massive disaster.

    * scunnered

    Honestly scunnered with it.

It’s the same failings year after year.

So disappointing and infuriating that the people who control the club, and who claim to be Celtic supporters, do not have the appetite or ambition to push to the next level.

It’s clearly not going to change. The fact the support campaigned during Covid for board level changes only for the main culprit to come back 18 months later tells you everything you need to know. It’s a losing battle and I think many are quite apathetic towards it now.

Just being better than the Huns and domestic success should never be the ceiling for a club like Celtic.

I don't buy it either mate but I do think that's how the board think. Certainly more so now that CL ain't guaranteed

We ain’t signing anyone for this champions league qualifier they’re lucky the 2nd legs away. Otherwise the fallout would be nuclear if we go out.

You may not buy it , but it probably well is the reason we haven't spent yet. You are correct that we should have spent anyway imo , but I think the logic of the board is that we can sign a better player ( both with more money and being able to guarantee CL football) , and in the interests of not bloating the squad, they want to focus solely on those expensive/ambitious acquisitions hence the lack of activity pre qualifier.

The board have short memories. The last time we had an injury crisis, they got abuse off the whole stadium. Now we are less injuries away from history repeating itself.

Everyone of our major transfers came in the very last week of the window and only because they got backed into a corner and faced an absolute car crash of window.

I think MOR being sold late in the window last year held up our business.

It shouldnt, but the board seem to be allergic to risking anything approaching a loss on the balance sheet

This waiting to see if we qualify chat is * nonsense.

When do we ever go hard after qualifying for the Champions League? If anything we go out and buy like 1 extra player in an average price bracket

Just another excuse. Then after that there will be another one. Then in January we'll get the usual ... and on and on it goes.

We have made circa £22m of Kuhn and Frimpong. Waiting to see what happens is just another lot of *. As others have said, we had guaranteed CL money the last two seasons. Look at the state of the window in Rodgers first season back. Tilio, Yang, Kwon etc etc.

The Celtic board aren't waiting for UCL qualification to splurge, they simply don't want to spend any money that they can't make a near guaranteed profit on.

They also don't want to spend big, because they did that once and (for them) it didn't go well.

The cash in the bank is now clearly irrelevant - they'd act the same if we had £20M or £120M.

They also have no expertise or competence in the business side of buying players above £3M - thus the embarrassing lowballing and overpayment on Idah.

Lastly, the people sent to do our business are not enabled to effectively deliver a deal because they have to double check every single move with the big gaffer so we miss all our biggest targets, almost every time.

It's an absolute feckin shambles. Pitchforks at the ready.
Apart from all that, we are looking sweet!

I think there is more to it than the board not wanting to strengthen. It feels like Rodgers wants to shop in an area outside the boards comfort level in terms of the size of the fee and the margin of sell on value. And probably in markets that are going to be less value for money.

I think we would have got an extra couple of players in by now but Rodgers is digging his heels in regarding the targets he wants. Hes in potentially the last year of his contract. He probably doesnt want development style players who may have talent and potential but will only bear fruit when hes left the club. He may feel he has maximum leverage now to try and get what hes looking for.

The Go Ahead Eagles thing was terrible optics. But if Rodgers had really wanted the guy, wed have probably paid up. Rangers paid up for their guy, but they are playing a different game to Rodgers. They are looking to just close the gap on us and try an win a domestic league. Rodgers is trying to make an impact in the Champions League. Much harder to do. The Antman and Gassama type guys are probably the sort of players that are being pitched to Rodgers that hes not interested in.

The "waiting to qualify before spending" line. That classic.

It was bullshit in 2013 and its bullshit now.

The majority of business as a whole is done in the last week of the window , and a large percentage of it on the last day , for reasons that are obvious and have been addressed numerous times on here.
