It probably won’t matter, because we seem incapable of getting deals done anyway.

Rodgers won't be the one identifying targets (apart from maybe the odd player he wants to bring in such as Sinclair) as that's not how top level modern clubs work these days.

So far, we have spent around 3.5 million.

The only real position we have strengthened is left back.

Domestic season has started, 14 days till first champions league play off match, and there is 26 days left in this window.

Nonsense. We’ve strengthened the third choice goalkeeper position with someone who ticks BOTH boxes for UEFA’s homegrown quotas. Unreal business by the club and earned everyone a few weeks rest before we kick on.

Clearly he has been involved more than that. Schmeichel and Schlupp obviously were down to him as well. Was evident Ange was personally involved in several of our singings as well so while I agree top level clubs don't really operate like that, there is absolutely nothing top level about our scouting and recruitment.

We seem to have such an obvious hole in our structure where this is concerned, that should be filled by a competent Director of Football.

No, the majority of our targets are identified first and foremost by recruitment team, which includes scouts.

Paul Tisdale is officially 'Head of Football Operations'. That's DoF with different wording, although I can't speak to his competence.

I never said the majority of our players weren't identified by scouts. What I said was clearly our managers have been more involved than they should have been over the last few years. Kyogo, Maeda, Hatate, Iwata, Ideguchi, Schmeichel, Schlupp, Tilio, Mooy to name a few. So a decent amount of our signings since Ange came in the door have been done by the manager and not our recruitment team. Obviously most done by recruitment but you're wrong that our managers haven't clearly signed their own players because the alternatives haven't been good enough.

If we had a DofF - they would be brought in to sing off the same hymn sheet as the board and work to their model.

think the problem now is that Rodgers doesnt want to be constrained by this model. Im sure hes be given a list of potential replacements for Kuhn and Id say hes said no thanks.

If there were no plans to replace Kuhn - I think Rodgers would have kicked off much earlier in the window.

From the timelines and contents of his interview - he seems to only start firing shorts weeks after the Kuhn sale and highlights quality and ambition and need to push forward. To me that suggests hes wasnt happy with the options he was given and thinks we need better. As opposed to not being given any options at all. Maybe he had some targets on mind himself that the board werent prepared to consider.

He seemed to step back a bit from his comments there recently and mentioned still time left in the window and work being done. Im hoping this means that he and the board managed to hammer out some kind of agreement that if we get into the CL then they will upgrade the level of target they are reviewing and maybe are prepared then to go out and spend to get a couple of guys Rodgers is keen on.

Hard to speak of anyones competence or level of authority & autonomy when it comes to the top end of club staff as there is little-to-no communication from the board about our objectives. It just invites speculation and in turn creates hysteria amongst the support.

The manager will be involved with every first team signing, but he won't be the one identifying most of them. Tilio was someone we had been watching for a while, for example.

Quality signing that, ignore that he won't get any game time at all and the position literally could have been filled by any other youth prospect at the club for all that position is worth :56:

    * club had the cheek to celebrate it as well.

Pointless even posting that, I said that in my previous post and that was not what I was discussing. I made the point that both Brendan and Ange have bypassed recruitment and recommended their own players to be signed due to the fact our scouting and recruitment has been a shambles.

Nevermind. We'll come number 3 in a 'best run clubs in the UK' article next week and everything will be sound.

We play the 2nd leg of our CL qualifier 6 days before the window shuts. Its an absolutely pointless strategy if thats what the board are holding out for. Thats if these so called players haven't been snatched up by other clubs in that time as well.
