The level of our ambition has never changed. The board want us to be a "wee bit" better than Rangers but keep it competitive. Europe is a bonus to this board and not a focus. That's in a nutshell why we're in this situation right now.

I really don't understand how people make the leap from us not reaching our full potential to this fantasy of our board actually wanting the huns to win, it's just bizarre, covid season aside we've completely dominated scottish football.

The same people will claim they only care about hoarding money, well nothing would hurt us more financially than the huns winning the league and us missing out on the CL cash, can't really have it both ways, do they only care about money or do they want the huns to win?

Overly cautious is the best way to describe it. That prudent approach has left us with a very financially stable business but has inadvertently created a timid, almost frightened approach to the sporting ambition/goals.

If the football team was prioritised over the financial side of the business we would most likely have had a lot more success in Europe over the years, maybe cemented ourselves as a regular CL team or perhaps had a run in the Europa when we failed to qualify. The balance between football and finances is way too one sided to the latter.

I genuinely can't work out why we are sat on so much cash, even if it is a 'rainy day fund' of sorts, its excessive and a glaring opportunity to invest going to waste.

The board are dinosaurs. The age and length of time they have served us would never be allowed on any other PLC

Stay slightly ahead of the worst Huns team in 40 years, qualify for a European group stage and make as much money as possible for the shareholders while spending as little as possible.

Also try your absolute damndest to completely alienate your fan base and rip the heart out of what the club is all about. While still trying to milk every last * penny they have out of them.

To be honest I think that's Lawwell.

It's the approach you would expect from an accountant.

The approach of a successful business man…being Desmond. Lawwell lasted so long and still does because he does exactly what Desmond wants while taking the flak for it.

Your probably right mate but the guys a billionaire. I don't really see what he gets out of it.

Lawwell and the other * on the board gain financially from the club being so prudent.

But aye, Lawwell wouldn't have lasted so long and got away with the constant downsizing if Desmond shared even half the ambition of our previous 2 managers.

Desmond wants us to be self sufficient which he managed to do 13 years ago and now he’s driving up the stock of the club since eventually he will sell up at a massive profit for himself.

It’s a risk averse business plan, buy cheap in quantity and sell for profit then when we’re getting CL football stockpile the money in case we miss out for a few seasons.

The only reason we made a step forward with Rodgers in 2016 was because the huns beat us in the Semi and * Desmond off with King & co’s behaviour. Dread to think where we’d be if we had won that game.

Most businesses have KPIs to know where they are at and where they want to get to. We are prehistoric so I massively doubt it.

Europe can be hard to measure depending on draws, low number of games to draw a pattern. But if you measure it over the last 10 years it's abject failure. Last season was a peak.

The ambition of the club is to finish ahead of Rangers. Thats it. Our spending, our success and failure, our plans for every season, seem to be as cheaply as possible stay ahead of Rangers.

From my perspective, I think the ambition is simply to improve every season. I appreciate that isnt possible to achieve every season, but it should be what we aspire to do. As our sales increase our spending should increase. If we see players not at a level, we should replace them with better players. Simple objectives. This season, we are clearly not seeking to improve - we are seeking to 'maintain' as Rodgers puts it.

There are lots of reasons why measuring progress for celtic is difficult but defined simply by 'trying to improve' is quite a simple and easily evidenced measure

The ambition is a simple one, to make lots of money.

It doesn't matter if it's selling a player for £20m, or selling a tin of Celtic branded shortbread for £5.99.

The ambition is to buy something at one price, and sell it on for a bigger price.

The football team are just an advert for the products.

I wish I could disagree with your analysis there but I think you are absolutely spot on with that. Its an absolute joke and a disgrace how badly in need of fresh thinking and some vision and ambition we are with our board.

For such successful businessmen they don't half lack ambition. Spend a few bob to make your team better and you'll be rewarded ten fold - simples

Totally agree, and is exactly why Brendan is now at a crossroads with them as he genuinely wants better. I'll be so annoyed if we refuse to back him and he walks at the end of the season.

I am totally in agreement with your there. What's so frustrating about the Brendan Rodgers situation is we have a genuinely world class manager who is clearly interested in staying beyond 3 years here and really could make us a respectable force at European level and yet this disgrace of a board with their obsession with what they think is not taking risks is deliberately and in completely self inflicted fashion going to chase him away it looks like. Not only that but all the domestic dominance we have achieved will be put at risk if they do indeed blow this up through their own ineptitude and risk phobias. I will even add in the quality of football we will watch could well suffer as well. Last season we didn't just win the title but we won it scoring well over 100 goals and playing some really entertaining football. Thats all been put at risk by this board.
