Brendan Rodgers has revealed he's yet to be offered a new contract by Celtic.

And the Hoops boss has made it clear he won't stick around just to "maintain" levels.

Rodgers is in the third and final year of his second stint in charge and held talks with principal shareholder Dermot Desmond over the summer.

Asked if his future had become any clearer, Rodgers said: "There's no further update no, and for the sake of honesty and clarity I can tell you exactly where we're at.

So I said when I came here first that I'd do three years minimum. People had me out the door at the end of last season or going various place.

"I said then and I'll say it now - there's nowhere to go. I love being here. I've done two years. I've got one more year to go.

So when that time comes, when the club offer me a deal or not, then it doesn't make a difference to me. Because every single day of my life I'll give everything here to the very last day.

"So when the club feel there's that time to make an offer then they will do but as I said it's slightly different from a manager's perspective to a player.

"Players and clubs need to ensure they're tied in especially at this time of the year when there's maybe only six months left.

It's slightly different for a manager but it doesn't change my hunger and desire here for the work."

That is extremely strong words lol. Must be some sort of conflict and i fully understand him.

This tells you everything you need to know. He wants investment, the board dont.

    Fair *.

Worrying though. Surely everyone can agree things ain't rosey here.

That's probably the most blunt I've seen him be in nearly 5 years as a manager here.

You have to appreciate the honesty. Clearly he feels the club need to adjust their ambitions

It's so frustrating. Because he's brought so much success here, regardless of what you think of him. And he's Desmonds man. So I really am struggling with why they won't go with him. For me he's still the best and most suited coach we can attract.

Has to be Lawwell or someone? I don't see why DD would put his neck out and bring him back only to then throw him under the bus. It doesn't make any sense.

Pretty clear cut and what we assumed was the case is reality. The board have no ambition to continue progressing at all.

Last year’s CL performance was simply a bonus not something to aspire to achieve again or even surpass. It’s just bank the money and keep dawdling along being just slightly better than any team in Scotland.

    Utter charlatans.

Yep there is no better manager for us out there than him i reckon. He is a unbelievable coach and master at man management. Our idiot board will * this one up, of that im certain.

What worries me the most is that this will most likely reach our performances on the park this season. It is much more infected then what we think im afraid of.

Clearly something is going on behind the scenes.

He’s saying how it is, clearly wants backed but it’s not exactly happening.

Think this is his last season with us.

Genuinely though it's mental that a manger of any football club has to even make those statements surely any club on the planet strives to be the best version they can be. What's worse is we have a massive pile of cash to fall back on whilst seemingly having zero appetite to try and kick on

Rodgers is in a strong position here, truth is he dosen't need the gig and we would be hard pushed to get a better manager in the door.

All this isn't exactly great just as the new season is about to begin, in an ideal world we would already have the players in and managers future sorted, but as usual with this Board it's a *.

It is mental but we are now made to believe its normal.

That interview could have been from any year he's been in charge here tbh. Minus his first.

    * farce.

Alarming whatever way you look at it..

Should be going in to this season on a high but there's clearly a strained relationship between manager and above. Bit of a mood amongst the support as well which is completely understandable..

Totally avoidable but we kick ourselves whenever we're on course for a chance of really kicking on from a position of strength..

I actually think he would sign an extension if they'd commit to show some ambition.

Again, I come back to Desmond. He wanted him back, he's his pal, he's the majority shareholder, he's held talks with him THIS summer...what's going on?

I genuinely feel like this * could * our season.

Quotes from Brendan today on his frustration with Transfer business

Brendan Rodgers has acknowledged that Celtic’s summer transfer business isn’t progressing as quickly as he’d hoped, admitting that he’s still working to convince the club’s hierarchy of the urgency in bolstering the squad.

    Rodgers
, speaking ahead of Celtic’s league opener, was asked whether this window would see fewer last-minute signings, referencing last year’s dramatic deadline-day capture of Arne Engels.

But the manager gave a frank assessment of the current situation, suggesting his calls for reinforcements haven’t yet landed.

“Yeah, I don’t really know,” Rodgers told CeltsAreHere. I don’t conclude the deals. There’s always time lapses on them for different reasons, but I think that come the end of that period, of course we would have loved to get players in earlier.

There’s no doubt I would have liked to have had players in now, but that’s not the case. So, I’m not going to kill my own joy and overthink stuff. I focus on what’s here.

“We know the work that we need to do and it’s my responsibility to convince the club that we really need them and clearly I’m not doing that job as well as maybe what I can, but I will continue to pursue that because it’s something that’s really important for us.”

Celtic’s only attacking additions this summer has been Shin Yamada and Callum Osmand, with key areas on the wing and in defence still in need of depth.

With the transfer deadline now a month away and Champions League qualifiers looming, the pressure is mounting behind the scenes for Rodgers to get the support he feels is required.

It seems that Rodgers is on the same page as many of the fans, though. He’s frustrated at the lack of business, and has hinted that the club need to convince players to sign, something a manager with four fit wingers – one of which is on the verge of a move away after playing 28 minutes for the club, another inconsistent, another was mainly deployed as a striker towards the end of last season and the other is 34 and scored one leage goal last term – shouldn’t have to do.

That quote is the most telling, shouldn’t be having to convince anyone to spend the cash that’s there. Majority of the players we’ve identified and linked with would massively improve us. Exactly what we need days before start of the season.

The fact he has to convince them is a * shambles.
