His age and goal record are uninspiring but the YT videos highlight some excellent attributes. He’s rapid, strong, works hard and can finish.

Might just be a case of getting consistency out of him but at the fee there’s at least a portion of a punt about it. No massive deal if it turns out we can’t get that but if we do there’s definitely a talented player there.

Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Shin Yamada, who has joined the club on a four-year deal from Japanese J League side, Kawasaki Frontale, subject to international clearance.

The 25-year-old forward is the latest addition to Brendan Rodgers’ squad, along with fellow countryman, Hyato Inamura, Kieran Tierney, Benjamin Nygren, Callum Osmand and Ross Doohan.

Shin Yamada, who recently gained his first cap for Japan, has scored 32 goals in 121 appearances for Kawasaki Frontale, the same club that Reo Hatate played for before joining Celtic.

And he will link up with fellow countrymen Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Hyato Inamura at Celtic.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said: “I am really pleased that we have brought Shin to the club. He is a strong player who can score goals and create goals for others and I think he is someone who can definitely add an important dimension to our forward line.

"I know he is really keen to make his mark here in European football and deliver for Celtic and I think he is someone who has the power, athleticism and intensity in his play to do really well for us. I look forward to working with him."

And Shin Yamada said: “It is a huge honour for me to be here as a Celtic player and I can’t wait to begin my time at this amazing club.

“Celtic is one of the top names in world football. I have already watched my countrymen like Daizen, Reo and Kyogo do so well at Celtic and I will aim to have the same impact.

“I am my own player, though, and I am ready to face all my own challenges directly.

“I want to do so well at Celtic, I know that Celtic Park is one of the best places in the world to play football with the best supporters around and I will do everything I can to make my new fans proud of me.

“I promise I will give everything I have to bring our fans success.”

    I'm intrigued by this one.

This is a signing that unlike the others probably has that air of random punt.

Obviously seems to speak well and say the things new signings say.

    Definitely intrigued

Was very underwhelmed by this when it first broke but have now got a wee feeling he'll be a big success. Great to continue the Japanese link.

Good luck to him, but now have the feeling whayever our budget is, £10/15m or whatever were going to try and buy as many players as we can and hope a couple come off to sell or even let one of our better players go and hope that some of them make any type of impact.

I’m never that arsed about some signings, then they are announced and I get a wee buzz.

    Welcome wee fella.

If he hits last seasons numbers we are laughing.

Definitely more of an analytics type signing with his pace & pressing numbers that we want to keep in the team when Maeda eventually goes. His scoring record was good last season so hopefully hits the ground running for us.

We are pleased to announce that Arata Yamada, a player currently a member of our club, has made a permanent transfer to Celtic FC (Scotland).

To everyone associated with Kawasaki Frontale, I have decided to transfer to Celtic FC on a permanent basis. I have been a part of this club since my days in the academy, and they have shown me so much love and nurtured me to where I am today. Most of who I am is what I learned at Frontale. I am also truly grateful to the supporters who have supported me at all times.

Through Frontale, I have been able to meet so many wonderful people. I have experienced so much, both joy and regret. It was a truly happy time to play for Frontale, which was my dream. I loved my own chant.

I will be sad to leave this club, but I will do my best with Frontale on my back as I work towards my next dream. I have been able to come this far thanks to the support of so many people. I have nothing but gratitude. Thank you so much."
