Much as I like Bernardo I'd rather see McCowan ahead of him especialy in some of the rougher domestic games

 

Exactly that for me too. Don’t know what some fans expect as a back up. We clearly know he’s a backup. He knows he’s likely a back up.

It’s the Ralston situation for me and I hope which will be the same with Scales. A back up option, who’s happy to get plenty of minutes for the club they love but know they’re not first choice. I’m happy for Scales to stay as back up. Happy to keep Ralston as back up and same with McCowan. Same kinda goes for Forrest now, even though that’s for a different reason but he knows he’s likely not going to be first choice.

 

What a bargain this lad has proven to be btw, knows he'll most probably always be on the fringes but comes in and usually always does something whether it's a goal, assist or key pass, talk about value for money at £1M, two peaches during pre season so far too, after Nygren and Hatate, McCowan is ahead of Engels for one of the attacking midfield spots for me until Engels can start adding goals from open play to his game

 

Different types of MFs, Bernardo is a deeper MF, more of a sitter, whereas McCowan is more of an attacking MF

 

He's fine as a squad player. Plenty of games he's played he's looked awful though.

Could say that about all our midfielders at some point last 2 seasons.

Real room for improvement and why I'd like to have seen Rodgers experiment more with our shape.

 

I wouldn't say fine as a squad player for McGregor, Engels or Hatate. Poor games by their standards affect us a lot less than McCowan's too.

Don't get me wrong, he's been a good signing and I like him. I just don't want to be relying on him as a starter.

 

He'll be fine especially playing in Scotland, Im fie with him. His form did tail off end of season but then again so did teams overall.

Should still be sold for that tash, or even paid off, sure he'd fail in an appeal anyway ifbwe used the tash reason.

Yeh, not l thinking he should be starting. More that I don't really see us as having a cohesive midfield where one or more starters are not contributing as much as they should, with the exception of right at the start of last season.

 

His goals and assists are handy for us especially for domestic games. He deserved a lot more game time last season at a few stages, then lack of game time definitely affected his performances later in the season.

Our midfield is full of quality but no real consistency. Hopefully see more rotation this season in there, especially with McGregor.

 

I think he's so underrated

 

Been critical of him for a while but was much better tonight. Looked more confident and had a few clever touches/passes. Want to see him getting stuck in a bit more and not get pushed about, but the technical game was there tonight.
