Can't see him staying beyond this season. It's a natural time to end it for both parties. Clearly we aren't going to match his ambition in terms of squad additions. Think that's pretty obvious judging by the fact we're regularly weaker after transfer windows than we are at the start of them.

He'll be targeting a treble to sign off with as well as another decent showing in Europe. In order to do all of that though we really need to get more players in the door.

Think he's been left to look silly by the board too. Going on about the necessity of replacing Kyogo back in January and then failing to do it left him pretty red-faced. Can't imagine it would've gone down too well.

Hopefully gets us another couple of trophies in the bank at least and wins a few more games in the UCL.

I doubt it Rodgers ever seen trusty or Engels play par videos.
It’s scouts that would came up with them.
On idah. Rodgers would wanted to keep him. Not Rodger’s fault Norwich wouldn’t accept smaller fee and that why took so long to complete.

Still all 100% his signings though surely?

Rodgers definitely pegged his colours to the mast on Idah, which didn't help particularly in terms of final price, or looking at other options.

Probably realised it takes feckin months for our scouts to identify and our board to negotiate a deal and couldn’t be arsed waiting so just went for Idah

Very vocal on the touchline. Was good to hear.

He has also generated more money than any other manager. That is just reflective of money in football now and Celtic's position in the football hierarchy. In our position, we should be breaking our transfer record regularly in line with our various record breaking player sales. That wouldnt be unusual or wreckless - it would reflect our balance sheet, the rise in champions league money, and inflation in general.

Engels isnt a flop yet by any means and is probably worth no less than we paid. Idah was a Norwich squad player - ludicrous that we overpaid so much and absolutely Rodgers is responsible for that one. That said, it was awful that we seemed to have no alternative options that we could go with besides Idah. Trusty was a defender in one of the worst EPL sides in its history - that was a waste as well. But even then, if we sold Idah and Trusty tomorrow, we are probably losing a few million on each. So in context, c.6-7% of our cash reserves or a couple of wins in the champions league group stages. It is really very little risk and loss given the size of our club and balance sheet.

Rodgers will be well within his right to be frustrated and when he does leave I hope he speaks bluntly about the absolute lack of ambition our board has. At least it may force the board to back whoever his replacement is.

Kieran Tierney insists Brendan Rodgers is as driven as ever and won’t be distracted by contract countdown talk.

The Celtic boss has entered the final year of his current Hoops deal and is remaining tight-lipped about his long-term plans.

Tierney admitted he’s thrilled to be hooking up with his old gaffer again – and he’s seen no signs Rodgers is winding down to an exit.

The Irishman was roaring on the touchline in Wednesday night’s friendly win against Sporting Lisbon and charged up for Saturday's bounce game with Newcastle United at Celtic Park.

Tierney is adamant there are no fears about the manager’s motivation heading towards the new season.

He said: "I don't think he'll bother too much about the kind of outside noise.

He’ll just get on with his job because he knows he's got a job to do, and as his players, we've got a job to do.

"We need to do it to the best of our ability, and that takes hard work and commitment every single day, no days off and just being at it every day.

“I think with the captain that we've got, it's perfect having Callum and the manager as well together. It's a perfect combination.

It's amazing how much the manager actually works, and what the effort he puts in.

“We saw the benefits of it the other night.

“I think we played really well the other night, some good passages of play against a top team.

It just shows you how passionate he is that you can still see him shouting and wanting more. And I think you need that if you are going to win these trophies and that, you need to be 100 per cent all the time.

“Pre-season friendly, whether it's Champions League qualifier, Scottish Cup, League, you need to be on it every single day, even in training. You need to be on it and the manager makes sure that we are.

“He's got that, it's his drive.”

Rodgers played a big role in bringing Tierney back to Celtic with fans fevered about the prospect of a second coming after the pair were snapped together at a dinner last year.

The full back said: "I knew these pictures would come out! It's massive. I've always kept in contact with him. He always texts me in the good times and the bad times throughout my career, he gave me a phone call

“I'm buzzing to be back with the gaffer. I loved my time under him before. We were successful together. He got the best out of me and it's a joy to work with and I'm delighted to be back with him.

Still early days this window, and I think it’s a bit overlooked so far due huto one being a bosman the other a robberyH because he only had 6 months left on a contract that Nygren and Tierney are absolute quality signings. But the lack of high fees there, has the fans looking at wanting a bit of money spent. I agree we should have the means to go big but they two are blue chip signings that aren’t being recognised as such.

That being said though, BR’s comments about the two signings from Japan are worrying me. It feels Shved like, Inamura has clearly surprised him, he made sure to highlight he was surplus to requirements as he signed, and Yamada signing sounds like one he had no interest in, knows little about and not part of his transfer plans.

Felt like he’s making sure for us to know it’s not counted towards what he’s wanting, but being brought in anyway. It feels like Shved signing but BR’s not as unhappy as he was at that point, so isn’t going as far in his statements as then.

    And that’s worrying for me.

Yamada I think looks a great signing and Inamura I’ve liked so far as well, but that’s beside the point for me. Rodgers is clearly for me anyway not mentally even including them in his squad for what he wants. Two quite big fee LB’s have been big rumours in the last week, and BR has said in the Yamada interview he’s still wanting his striker in. We’ve signed two strikers now and that’s not the club, board and manager working as a cohesive unit on the same page.

That’ll scupper any extension if he doesn’t get what he wants and we point to that instead. Not at McGinn levels this early in the window but it’s pointing a bit in that direction

No point talking if extensions. Hes gone at the end of the season. 100% set in stone. Hes said it day 1. He will give 3 years. Thats it. Just like I said from day 1, he'll go opposites this time. Season 3 will be his best. He'll sign out with a bang.

As Sutton mentions today, this whole it's a 'club signing' and "we'll take a look at him" reference is worrying.
We are getting into million wingers territory.

Surely the manager at least has a say or the final say? - that's at least what he said last season,

Or is he now back in his box post Idah/Engels and only 'the coach' who 'coaches what he's given'? (as it was when he arrived - he said it himself)
So 'others' at the club (rightly or wrongly) know better and are now wholly responsible for recruitment?

He also pushed for the now infamous 'review' of recent transfer windows - did it happen? what was the outcome?
    the silence is deafening.

I'm more and more convinced the board/manager (sorry, board/coach) relationship is breaking down - like first time around - and he'll be gone at end of season.
Unless theres a pretty remarkable turnaround this window.

What I don't unstand is, surely everybody knows BR has a poor attitude to what we're now calling "club signings", so why keep foisting them on him.

I get that buying cheap, developing and selling high is always going to be a major revenue stream for us.

But if BR isn't 100% on board it's just buying cheap, stagnating, and releasing for * all at the end of the contract.

A complete waste of time and money

Maybe the club know it's his last season..

And that's why we're planning for the future with 'club signings' and I've no issue with that.

He was much more complementary with his comments on Yamada now he's here.

However, there's no doubt he needs to play a game in the media with the Board to try and get what's needed.. and that must we weary for him or any manager for that matter.

Is it not reasonably common that the club identify and sign players rather than the manager? Obviously he has a say.

My concern would be that when he does go, if we won't continually back a manager like him after the success he has delivered and his relationship with Desmond, what hope does anyone else have. It doesn't give me any confidence that we will ever reach the potential we have in the transfer market.

I know you've often banged on about it yourself but we need investment and a shake up of ghe footballing structure. But it's silence. And as mentioned above the silence on the review of transfers. Let's not forget Lawwell publicly apologising about how the January window went the other season.

As ever though these things are forgotten about as soon as we start winning again. There's evidently still serious issues behind the scenes. The fact we seem to operate so slowly executing deals as well.
