I have noticed that this a brilliant year for butterflies. A huge relief as last year was one of their worst ever with numbers down to a terrible level. My semi wild garden is a haven for them and other wildlife. Also in the greater area and beyond we can see they are having a brilliant year. A huge relief.

Also I am hopeful of seeing young Red Kites on the wing very soon as then we will find out if the local secretive pair have bred.

Have a good weekend everyone in here.

I saw a Kite earlier Pete, it was circling the area. I suppose all the smaller birds have to hide somewhere when the bird of prey is around. And butterflies, did you know there is a certain purple flower which attracts lots of butterflies. I can't for the life of me remember what is was called though.

Some really interesting shots actually Johnie. I'm especially fond of the two black and white birds on the cliffside it looks like.

All great shots, as always, but the very first is terrific in my eyes.

Superb pics Johnie, especially the Black-Headed Gull. No surprise that I love that picture

I was delighted late this morning to see my first Small Copper butterfly of the year at long last. Worth googling as they really are attractive butterflies, one of my favourites. Also on the local farm pond a big Emperor Dragonfly was busy patrolling and hunting.

Thanks Bhoys :50:, Glad you like them.
I went back to Toraigh yesterday for another day trip, got to the island around half nine and the first thing we heard was a Corncrake calling but again couldn't see him in the long grass, after a hike up the road and a cuppa at one of the picnic benches we headed up the cliff path to the Puffin colony which is situated at the bottom of a very high cliff face, i'm not entirely comfortable with heights so i lay on my belly to look over the edge and get a few pics of the Puffins, we stayed for an hour or so watching the Fulmars and various species of Gulls gliding on the cliffside thermals before making our way back down, on the way we saw some Choughs, Ringed plover, Meadow Pipit, Stonechat, Wheatear and again heard the Corncrake on the way back to the Village, as you can imagine i took quite a few photos and i'll post a few when i have them sorted :50:.

A cool badger was busy feeding in my garden last night on some dog food I put out for mammals on the grass floor. This was one of a few tins I kept for the mammals that live and visit in my garden left over from the late great boxer Ruby Roo. The badger appeared about 10.30pm. I put the food out at 9.40pm.

And this morning at 10am as I was doing the exciting chore of hanging out my bedding and some of my clothes just as I finished a cool male Hobby flew right over my house and towards and over the local woods in the direction of the local heath. My first Hobby this year so that has already made my day, putting me in a good mood as I went to get some shopping.
