Agree @The_Bhoy that scouting is key over cash.

My point is that instead of £5-6M being the usual ceiling, it should be up to £15M - it simply opens up a much, much broader range of players to scout from and become less of a gamble.

On replacing outgoings like Hattate or Engels, I don't know who a replacement would be but at least the budget should up to the cash we get for them - again opening up many more options, but no guarantee of success....so your recruitment of the right type of player as well as right person needs to be spot on, even more so when spending so much on single player.

Who does Miller replace in our starting 11? McGregor has showed no signs of playing less, maybe played more this season than previous but he’s viewed as McGregor’s future replacement? He’ll need to wait 2/3 years to be a main player?

I think he’s talented but I do believe we’d ruin him. At Motherwell he’ll play every game. At us he’ll play give or take 20/25 games. It’s the same reason I didn’t think we should sign Ferguson, we don’t give these players enough game time to develop. We dominate the league, win by 17 points and I don’t think mcardle played more than 15 minutes total. He definitely didn’t start any games.

There’s an argument that it is their place to win, but I think most of our managers have played their favourites, Rodgers more than most.

I’d rather we sign someone who is good enough to take the starting place, if we’re being quoted €9m.

Mcgregor needs to be rotated more often. I'd agree it's unlikely for it to happen but realistically we need to think about the future never mind the price.

I don't think mcgregor should still be playing 50 odd games a season now, never mind in 3 years time. Think it would be short sighted to ignore someone like Miller on our doorstep just because we think he probably wouldn't start every single game at the moment. He's 18.

Would have said the same for Ferguson too. I agree with what you're saying, don't fully trust us but we need to eventually get past that and start signing some of these lads up.

Particularly as we are running low on Homegrown players we can trust. He's worth about £6m for that alone in European squad terms if he develops.

There's chat about Rodgers wanting more Scottish players in the team. Mulligan and Miller the obvious ones...I'd take Penrice as back up to KT now as well.

I'm all for Miller. Rodgers clearly likes him as well, went straight for him that game at Fir Park where he done that mad skill for the goal and played well..

He's a no brainer at just under 5 mill (which i think would get him). He easily jumps ahead of the likes of Bernardo and McCowan in the middle trio pecking orfer for me..

I've been debating whether we need him right now as ive felt we need pace and power. Miller doesn't give us that but is very good defensively, intercepting and shutting down spaces. His quality on the ball is there for all to see. Would add a lot of goal involvements..

Mulligan adds pace and power also as a cheap squad option..

Personally I'd then like to move on Bernardo and add a game changing signing. Someone with real box to box dynamism that also has more of a Hatate spark of creativity in unlocking the door..

Someone good on the half turn. Seen a thread elsewhere and it's so true that we really lack this bar the likes of Hatate. Miller has it though..

    McGregor/Miller
    Engels/a new creativity, dynamic type
    Hatate/McCowan/Mulligan

That's 2 for every position for the first time and Mulligan who can fill in at the back also..

McArdle to go out on loan for 6 months in that case. To stay if we don't have 7....which i don't think is excessive considering we play a high amount of games with 3 centre mids at all times and the age of McGregor now, who will need to be managed more..

I'm less on Penrice. Good player domestically, but I'd be looking for better with KT no gonna be around for loads of games or subbed off plenty. Feel like we need a really good young up and comer.....Penrice is actually 27 end of this year..

We will definitely be in for Lennon Miller it is just whether he wants to come here, that will largely depend who else is in for him and the project we sell him. To get him he will need to be coming in to compete to be a starter, as you say jump the likes of Bernardo and McCowan.

On fit I think in time he may become more deep lying but when you look at his data over the last season, I believe he profiles a lot like the Matt O’Riley we got from MK Dons. A young centre midfielder with a bit of everything to his game except pace. A good height and build for someone so young, sneakily good off the ball, positonally and spatially aware, creates a good volume of chances for his team mates and has goals in him but needs that part of his game to be developed. The last piece is something Rodgers has done with a number of centre midfield talents. The other thing to remember is he is 3 years younger at 18 than when we signed a 21 year old O’Riley.

My only concern is does he stylistically fit what we need? However, to contradict myself could we afford to miss out on a player of his talents on our doorstep. I think given his contract scenario you are looking at £5m upfront and some add ons with a healthy sell on clause 15% or so would get a deal done.

I don’t see it happening but if Engels did go to Atalanta it would almost be the perfect scenario to bring Miller in as I am not sure the two of them would make for a good match in midfield.

In terms of Scottish players links to McKenna again feel inevitable.

I can't argue with any of this. It's a case of no missing out on a homegrown, boyhood fan whos the standout in our league for a relatively low fee, pn our doorstep..

If he goes elsewhere, we all know we'll never be in a position to afford him so get him now..

We've spoke before about needing pace, power and more guile. So really when looking at that and our midfield, you're naturally thinking of different profiles.....but he's a case of getting him in or missing out down the line and regretting it..

Our midfield needs a shake. He can definitely add to what we have, as long as we bring in the right profiles with pace and power to accommodate the 6 or so Rodgers likely wants in the engine room..

You need homegrown and club grown players, it means you don't have to worry about bringing in a foreign player and not being able to fit them in the European squad, also to have a full squad.

    At the moment we have:
    Ralston
    McGregor
    Jamesy (for how long?)
    Welsh (I think leaves)
    Murray
    Tierney
    Likely Doohan

    So possibly 7 of 4.

    Home grown
    McCowan

    That makes up the 8.

But the advantage of Miller is he isn't just making up the numbers. He's definitely good enough to play for us and if you can get homegrown players who aren't just making up the numbers then BUY THEM.

Shocking that McCardle looked really decent when he came on v Dons. Good touch, confident and intricate passing. Then isn't even in squad for StM at home on the Saturday! League was won and we're not even giving him game time. No wonder young players leave.

Well said. BR is supposed to be a young player developer. He should have been on the bench at the Scottish cup final too. Why on earth did we have 3 defenders on that bench two of which didn’t get a look in. Mccardle a natural midfielder rather than play Greg in there

His dad used to work in my barbers until recently. While he never exactly spilled the beans, i'm not confident whatsoever that Lennon stays in the UK. The talk was always about playing abroad.

Cracking player with alot of potential for his age wouldn't want to sign him then not give him a chance but would far rather he was with us than them.

Don’t think you need to worry about that, they can’t afford him.

From what we’ve seen he looks promising but it’s only 15 minutes. He needs more game time and it’s something Rodgers has massively failed at here.

I get why he’s not in the cup final and maybe not the last game of the season. Five players a run out, let the main players get their end of season game etc. but we’ve known the league was over for a long time, there’s been plenty of opportunity to start a youngster or give them 20/30 minutes here and there.

That’s the move that makes the most sense now for young Scottish players, especially Italy.
