To be honest, its not right that we should sing Rebels at games, however they do create more of an atmosphere than The Four Leaf Clover for instance, but that does not make them right.
In terms of songs such as Fields of Athenry and Let The People Sing, these in my opinion should be allowed to be sung as they are Irish Folk songs, and considering our club's background I don't see why we cannot sing Irish Folk Songs.

Even when Motherwell pulled the 2 goals back , the South stand was still bouncing , so that can't be used an excuse.

Or due to the fact that the atmosphere at home is terrible and a lot of people don't come to sing and support their team they come to see what " delicasies " their serving in the refreshment bar - the point i'm trying to make.

Why were Man Utd fans so hostile towards us when we went to OT last year?

We didn't sing the songs in thier ground, but they know the songs we sing.

    Work it out.

Ok, you tell me why you think it is ok to sing rebel numbers at games?

If it is because it gets an atmostphere going, that is a lame excuse IMO.

And? The game was over at half time. The reason people have been quiet at games is because there has been nothing worth getting excited about with some of our performances. The teams performance is directly related to the fans. I don't know many teams who are singing while their team is being humped 3-0. Aberdeen bounces when they're beating Rangers, any other time they're subdued to say the least.

Fact in the matter is, Irish Rebel songs have no place in football. The SFA UEFA AND FIFA has made this quite clear. Follow the rules and our club wont get hammered for it. That's the bottom line. It's the rules.

    Granted

But the song relates to the Irish famine of the late 1880's, which forced Irish peope to cross the water.

I think that more than justifies it as a Celtic song.

Agree totally with your first paragraph.

No I don't but if everyone put as much effort into singing more appropiate songs at Celtic Park as they do away from home we wouldn't have a problem.

This is going nowhere so I'm bowing out....fed up going round in circles.

Cheers for the debate guys :celt_2:

Did they? did a bloke standing in a Man Utd shirt at a home game really commit an act against Ireland? Did he really? It's history that has * all to do with football. Stop being arrogant about it. If you want to go to a game and sing those songs, go ahead, but don't come crying here when your kicked out for it and banned. I also don't expect you'll cry about it when the club is fined and kicked out of competitions for it, because that's what will happen.

BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | Rangers | Uefa fine for Rangers and Osasuna

The huns were fined for sectarian singing in Osasuna. If it persists, they will take stronger action against the clubs.

Obviously I ain't a regular at CP or at the away grounds, but this discussion can be found more or less everywhere in europe.

lol you would get abuse over here if you said "they shouldn't song certain songs"... serious abuse!

the way I see it: if you don't like certain songs, just don't sing them. do some effort and start singing other songs you like, make others sing with you and contribute to the atmosphere. people who constantly moan and offer nothing are those ones I can't take seriously in that point.

let the people sing! over here you get to hear other kind of songs, same in italy, spain etc. the fact that supporters are arguing over certain songs show you why the atmosphere is dead. I think away games are always much more fun than homegames, because most people that go to away games actually sing and contribute to the great atmosphere, which makes a football game even more fantastic.

if you don't really like those songs some sing, just don't join in. start singing your own songs instead. but moaners who do nothing and diss singing people are just wrong imo.

if people start asking what certain songs got to do with football and atmosphere then I certainly associate football with something different than them. interesting views though :icon_mrgreen:

Note: the huns sing their songs all the time and get away with it.

So since they do it we should too? They got knocked out of Europe by a diddy team, so does that mean we should do that too?

Everytime I hear an Irish Rebel song I cringe, not at the fact it's being sung, just that I'm hoping nobody from UEFA is watching is our game. They have no place in football.

Read my post above, that's why the songs shouldn't be there. It's the rules, simple as that.
