Jeffrey Schlupp

Discussion in 'Ex Players' started by The Crow, Feb 3, 2025.

  1. Not the answer. A fit KT and I'd be happy enough with him as backup but with how fragile KT is i want better than Schlupp.

  2. Been poor so far, really needless freekick to give away for the goal.

  3. Really struggled with defending crosses into the box today.

  4. He started well enough but having him seen him over a number of games now Im not convinced by him.

  5. Yeah back to wondering if we were going OTT on him because he quietened Olise in Munich.

Was really interesting to see him hooked for Taylor.

  6. I liked the look of him at first, but have doubts now, from today and the huns game.

  7. Sclupp's confidence and form seems to have fallen off a cliff, since Raskin got a run on him.
Not sure what it is, but he needs to buck his ideas up quickly, if he wants to stay on here.

Move him into midfield and see how he does ?
Maybe he is not a left back.?

We need to know soon, or maybe we will need another left back.

  8. I think he should get another season tbh, and has plenty to offer, but he was * today, really poor.

  9. I am not sure he will be here next season, for one he isn’t actually a left back and it shows in that his defensive positioning can be seriously suspect at times.

I know he was excellent against Olise in Munich but a decent player can have an outstanding performance without being the answer, look at the likes of Ambrose, Mulgrew and Matthews playing left back against Barca 2012.

I actually think he will end up in MLS or the likes picking up a good wage. I am actually not sure despite his previous experience he is cut out to play for a team that has to win every week.

  10. very meh. Genuinely not bothered whether we sign him or not tbh

  11. I think he is fine as the backup LB to Tierney. We will struggle to get better than him for the role.

  12. As some of us said at the time, he’s not a defender. Never has been and never will be.

He’ll have some good games there but quite often it’s blatantly obvious he’s not comfortable in that position.

  13. At the price he will want for a wage - I'd argue we could get much better value.

He's a good player, some games he just looks head and shoulders above it all, coasts through games like he's an EPL star in a backwater league.
But then other games he looks completely lost and as if he doesn't realise what his job is.
At the apparent 60k a week, even getting him down to a third of that at 20k a week, is insane for a backup at Celtic.

KT is gonna be on circa 35-40k a week.
I don't see the financial sense (and I know I am one for demanding we push the boat out more, but this is one of those times it doesnt make much sense), in paying circa 60-70k a week on the LB position.

If we are entering that level of wages/willing to spend, then just go sign a much better LB for 50-60k and be done with it.

  14. Imo for the money we can do better.

  15. He's asking that much to sign a permanent deal here? If so, then you're right. But I was thinking he knows what wages he'd have to accept in return for quite regular football and CL games. 20k is fine in my book, and I'd take him if he'd accept that.

  16. Honestly wouldn't know what he's asking for.

But can't imagine he'd drop from 60k to 20k or less, to be backup

Lad could surely still cook in 30-40k in England or abroad and be a number one starter for someone

He'd easily have 25 starting games for us, though. Tierney will need resting often. You're right on the money part, but it's nice to have a bit of an easier time vs. lower quality opposition and win silverware.

  17. I thought he was a guaranteed signing as backup but some of his recent performances, being whipped off at half time by the certain want-away in Kuhn, added with Rodgers' comments lead me to thing we won't be offering him a deal..

Could be wrong but I think we'll part ways..

  18. One bad game hasn't changed mind, still a no brainer on a free..

  19. It will come down to whether he wants to finish his career on a high footballing wise with Celtic but on less money or whether he just wants to take whatever club offers him the best wage come the summer because I imagine he will get offers for more money then what we will offer. Still think we should make an effort to sign him though.
