Areas we could work on, but not all will be strengthened:

GK: Schmeichel will be retiring next year. Do we give Sinisalo serious minutes until the end of the season to see if he can take over, or do we bring in a GK?
LB: a rotation option to let Tierney rest when needed is a must. I'd honestly prefer Taylor to stay, but he most likely won't. Buying Schlupp would be an OK move.
CB: if we bring in any, I'd want a player also proficient at DM.
RB: only if Johnston leaves, which we should try and prevent.
DM: I'd love a proper destroyer, but I feel Rodgers doesn't want one, and it's unlikely we'll sign a player specifically for that position.
RW: only if Kühn leaves, which we should try and prevent. Yang has earned a spot in the roster, making this position less critical.
CF: Maeda must be kept at all costs. Make him captain, build a Shinto shrine so he and his family can do proper rites etc. We cannot replace his qualities. Since Maeda is often needed out wide, we could do with a striker, though. Idah is an okay second option. Whoever we buy wouldn't settle for being the third option. That said, I'd want Strelec over Kvistgaarden.

I predict we'll get a LB, CF and one more player for the first team.

Not really he's replacing a Scottish player, not homegrown but we dont have a lot of either.

I think signing a CB who can also play RB would be better option but difficult to find someone who could cover CCVs role and also AJs role. Would require a very wide skill set

Thanks for the invite @JC Anton :50:
    Like I said before.
New goalkeeper. Give Sinisalo to the end of the season to see how he shapes up.
    Two Broony like central midfielders
    New No.1 centre back
    Sell Kuhn, Hatate and Engels

Despite the horrific result on Sunday, the squad isn't in as bad shape as people are making out. I do, though, think we need a big refresh in the Summer as too many players have been here for far too long.

    Outgoings
    • Hatate
    • Scales
    • Kuhn
    • Palma
    • Nawrocki
    • Lagerbielke
    • Holm
    • Kenny
    • Taylor
    • Welsh
    • Kwon
I reckon you make around £35m from those, mostly from Kuhn and Hatate.

I'd then trim the squad down and bring in a few, quality players who have a lot of upside:
    • New defensive-minded CDM (mostly for European games to play alongside McGregor, or as rotation in league)
    • Lennon Miller (an obvious signing, would be a great player for us already and has lots of upside)
    • Tierney
    • Schlupp
    • New CB (someone to start, ideally someone good on the ball, quick)
    • New LW
    • New ST
That way, we'd have a lot of options and with the versatility of players like Jota and Maeda, would be able to cover lots of different positions, would leave the squad looking like:

I'd quite happily sell the likes of Trusty or Idah too if suitable offers came in, but they're fine as squad options.

Agree with this but would keep Kuhn as well. Forrest on the last year downturn and Yang still has to maintain his levels.

I’d love to keep Kühn, but can’t see us doing so. The club will want a big sale and he’ll have lots of interest

We need strong physical * all over the pitch.

Schlupp being the prime example, very good footballer with great physicality.

A true mumber 6 enforcer would be a start, but yeah its been 10 years since big wanyama...

What I want is that we sign key players early in the window! So they get time to gel with the team. We have the means to do so. We also have the qualifiers to think about. None of that waiting till last few days of window again pls!

De urgently need some players with balls and aggression, mainly in defense(def midfield). Add to that a good striker and Lennon Miller as a homegrown talent.

We are playing football, not basketball. Pep's Barca is arguably the best team ever and they were heavily undersized. Maeda is our best player and he's heavily undersized as well. Even basketball teams are downsizing nowadays cause the modern NBA is all about pace (and space).

Speed > Strength. The taller a player is, the less mobile/explosive he becomes. If Maeda were tall, he would have likely been a worse player.

I agree generally with this and speed and stamina are far more important. Football is moving in a different direction though where a lot of elite teams are focusing on tall, but still athletic players.

Look at Arsenal's team, basically full of giants now. Pep is often playing 4 CBs as his backline, all of which are 6ft+.

More height in the team would be ideal but more athleticism and pace is a must.

Man City is far from a successful example this season. Arsenal use plenty of undersized players at the wide positions.

I'd argue the best teams right now are focusing on ball pressure, speed and stamina rather than size and strength. Slot's Liverpool are dominating the EPL with their gegenpressing. Flick's Barca are chasing a treble with an extremely high defensive line. Real Madrid's front 3 is all about speed as well. Tallest player is Mbappe at 1.78. Vini and Rodrygo are 1.76 and 1.74 respectively.

At the same time, old school managers who were heavily relying on height and strength are gradually fading away from the game. Most striking example is Mourinho.

When we played Villa, they were noticeably stronger than us, bullied us at times..

We definitely lack physicality especially in the midfield.

    Sinsaolo
    Ralston*, Narwocki, Scales*, Left Back*
    McCowan, Bernardo, CDM
    Yang, Idah, Left Winger

As an utter * minimum, it's a left back and a left winger to compliment KT and Jota. And a well needed DM.
But even that as a minimum is not enough.

Need a 25 man squad for Europe, so the other 3 spaces likely be used for quota, so not expecting anything major foreign players coming in unless we see someone leave.

Still dont see us signing an out and out defensive midfielder.
Much more likely scenario is we sign Lennon Miller who will provide depth/cover for McGregor, who will continue in number 6 role.

McGregor will be another year older so highly likely he will be even more exposed in Europe next year. Can see him going the same way Brown did, continually exposed in Europe until it eventually starts happening domestically too.

Our best bet is moving on Hatate and replacing him with a real physical, athletic box to box midfielder so that we at least add some strength to midfield area because it's 100% not happening in the number 6 position
