    This is a wild incident.

How can polis just corral and hold people without charge for hours and you can be arrested for trying to leave even though nothings happened.

    Something sinister about it.

You'd guess they predicted people would have been raging and started to shout abuse and end up fighting with them then they could arrest people and try some sort of clampdown after a big riot and incident but it's backfired.

My question would be - are those folk happy to provide their ID and accept a pat down from the Airpot folk? Would they rather refuse that rather than stand in the stadium for a game against the Huns?

It's a bit different going on a plane to going to a football game is it not though? Not really a valid comparison.

For me it comes down to:
    - was it legal
    - did the circumstances warrant it
    - was what was done justifiable

No idea what the answers to those questions are. If legally they had to provide ID and accept a pat down for going to a football game or because of circumstances you might have a point. If not then the opposite.

If it's just the polis getting their own back after what happened at the cup final in the city centre I understand that but it's not justifiable and blatantly an abuse of power. The polis clearly shouldn't be above the law and if that's what happened it's utterly indefensible.

So do you think what happened was legal?

If seen people mention the cup final being the reason for this but I don't recall the Rangers fans being subjected to this in the following game.

Just show your ID like any other * that is asked to and move on. Go to the game like any other person.

They’re trying to be controversial for the sake of it.

I might be in the minority, but I’m struggling to garner sympathy for a group that were chanting about ‘Victory to the Resistance’ on the morning that unarmed wee concert going lassies were getting slaughtered by the dozen in a land, that fortunately for the group concerned and their families, they will never need to concern themselves over.

It’s absolutely legal, and warranted, and justifiable if a group of 100 men refuse a search.

Would you be comfortable with 100 men refusing to be searched and charging down your street on any given day? Why should it be different when they are going to a game of fitba?

A group full of proper roasters.

Because they are refusing to be searched.

    Pretty simple really.

Totally different situation. They're not checking you for political banners at the airport and while they probably do include flares in the things they are checking for, letting off a flare in an airplane is a thousand times more dangerous than at Celtic Park.

Why should you have to be searched to go to a football match? If they had a history of stabbing people or something, I'd be absolutely on board with this; but what they actually have a history of is flares and political banners.

Regarding banners, they have every right to do it. It doesn't matter if some people don't like it (and I disliked that particular banner you reference just as much as you did!).

Regarding flares, there has to be a better way. Have we tried looking into safe pyro? There is precedent for this way of approaching problems. Remember a decade ago when "lateral movement" was apparently such a big issue? It stopped being an issue once they got the standing section.

This was posted on the HB from a regular match going supporter

Yesterday was supposed to be the weans first derby .Shes been going for years but wasn’t wanting her at a hun game till she had turned 13.

Walked out the Celtic club and in with the crowd so she could get a buzz from the atmosphere.Police and vans all around us near straight away but same as yourself , thought the Huns would be getting out into stadium and we would be moving soon.

Maybe 40 minute later when it was clear we were not going anywhere I tried to move out the crowd and cops said we could go out but myself, my son and the wean would need to be searched, details taken and filmed .Told them that wasn’t happening , no chance they were searching a minor ,so they wouldn’t let us leave the kettle .Near 4 hours later of us standing surrounded by police I was told I could go out without my daughter being videod but me and my boy would have to and if we didn’t comply to that then us two would be lifted, regardless of wean there or not.
    * ridiculous, her first derby, stuck in a kettle for about 5 hours overall, not allowed a drink or to go to bathroom and needs to watch her Da and her brother grabbed wae plod like criminals, took away to the front ,details taken and videod.Shes still wanting to go back to next game but you wonder if it’s worth the hassle never mind the amount of cash your down to stand in the middle of the road

It was more than that though. Firstly they were deceived by the Police as to why they were initially detained and then asked to go through a process that to me isn't warranted and gained a criminal record for nothing other than being in and around a certain location.

That's overstep and an abuse of power to me.

If it was a simple pat down and on you go I might agree with what you said but it clearly wasn't. The Police have plenty of other options than what they did.

Great article on Celtsarehere quoting Jeannette Findlay, including the snippet that one of the reasons GB and others were detained was due to them having faces covered which she pointed out is lies due to video and she says there's also video of police scotland escorting masked huns into Parkhead, we need an enquiry about what happened

Academic and Celtic supporter Jeanette Findlay has strongly criticised Police Scotland over their handling of the Green Brigade at the Glasgow Derby, arguing that their actions were unlawful and discriminatory.

Academic and Celtic supporter Jeanette Findlay has strongly criticised Police Scotland over their handling of the Green Brigade at the Glasgow Derby, arguing that their actions were unlawful and discriminatory.

Appearing on Graham Spiers’ Press Box podcast, Findlay dissected the controversial policing operation that led to hundreds of Celtic fans being kettled, searched, and ultimately denied access to the match.

They were held for five hours with no access to food, water or toilets.

Findlay pointed out that Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994—which police cited as justification for their containment tactics—was misused in this situation

“If we take a step back a bit, the Section 60 cannot be used in that way,” she said. “There were a number of significant problems with how they tried to operate that.”

“For instance, they have to have a reasonable suspicion that somebody has something, like a weapon or something that would be unlawful to have. You have to have a reasonable suspicion. It cannot be based on how someone is dressed or whether they are part of a group of people who dress in a particular way, or even on whether they’ve ever been convicted of anything. The legislation does not allow police to do that. But nevertheless, that’s what they did.”

Findlay also raised concerns about improper searches and the treatment of foreign fans.

They took items from them and didn’t issue them with proper receipts. For the stop and search element, they are actually obliged to issue a receipt for that.”

She went on to highlight the case of three French nationals who were detained and taken to London Road police station simply for not carrying ID.

“Now, you don’t need to have ID in this country, and they weren’t letting people out if they didn’t have ID. The three French nationals were then detained and taken to London Road police station, which strikes me as discrimination on grounds of nationality.”

Findlay also challenged the police’s justification for detaining the Celtic fans, stating that the claims made about face coverings were false.

“They also gave information that was false. They said things like ‘because their faces were covered,’ but the people in that cordon’s faces were not covered.”

In contrast, she pointed out that video evidence exists of police escorting Rangers fans into the stadium while wearing full face coverings.

“I’m not making this a Celtic-Rangers thing, but the police are videoed taking Rangers fans who are fully masked up into the ground. If the reason for detaining the Celtic fans was because they were masked—when the evidence says they were not—then they are telling lies.

“Their reason for doing this is sheer and utter vindictiveness, and it’s exactly the same as the way they behaved during the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act.”

Police Scotland are facing continued scrutiny over the events of Sunday’s derby.

Celtic have already distanced themselves from the policing operation, and calls for an official investigation into police tactics are growing.

For now, the fallout continues, with many demanding accountability for what they see as an unjust and heavy-handed approach to Celtic supporters.

    Several reasons.

They have a very recent history of using pyro at games which they have been continually begged not to, but continue to do so, costing the club money, and endangering those around them with respiratory issues.

That’s just one. The polis are obviously roasters as well, but have every right to search them.

I’d consider you a heartless scumbag if you didn’t dislike their banner about the ‘resistance’ of heavily armed men with automatic machine guns murdering wee girls at a festival.

Strange that you don’t hear it being condemned by their wee supporters club on here or anywhere else.

The police wouldn’t have known exactly who was in the GB and who wasn’t. If you happened to be in that place at that time, you were going to be kettled. It’s * ridiculous in all honesty. I see the huns managed to get in however. Strange that.
