We’re remembering different players then especially since Idah’s 2nd touch is usually a tackle at times. GG while wasn’t perfect his hold up play was far better than Idah.

GG held the ball up better but neither were/are great at it.

All opinions but I can't agree. I thought GG was baws outside the penalty area other than roughing up his marker from time to time and winning the odd free kick to get us up the park but I can never remember him linking up that well. Idah definitely has had games like that but he's had games where his link up has been good to excellent.

I'm more in agreement with you. Though I will say my least favourite part of Idah's game is his first touch. Something he needs to work on.

Predicted he'd get a goal today and was pleased to be proven right. Good confidence booster before the derby next week, even if he doesn't start.

Humble as ever, and no disrespect to GG who I loved too, but that's the attitude to have when you are not in the team, show them by hard work and diligence on the training pitch, that you are good enough to be No.1 pick, but be equally conscious that in some games, the management may choose to play another player ahead of you for tactical reasons.

Of course there are some circumstances where managers and certain players don't hit it off, or there's a breach of trust between them, in that case a parting of the ways is usually inevitable.

He’s a decent penalty box striker.

He shows again and again he is a really top drawer finisher. Still overall a work in progress but already very reliable when it comes to the quality of his finishing.

Good on him. Folk starting a pile on again after a few apps without a goal. He’s going to have to live with this pressure as anything good he does is soon forgotten about if he doesn’t score in 2 or so games.

14 goals as a no2 striker isn't to be sniffed at btw still very young. I expect him to kick on next season but could easily make 20 goals this season

Extremely harsh assessment, he has much more in his locker than a Monster Munch Boyd appraisal.

I don't think he's far away from being a damned good striker, and as I said all along he could still get 20-30 goals a season, which is easily repayment for what his outlay was.

He just feels like he's going through the motions sometimes... Like he could give 20% more, and be great for it... Probably very harsh on him, I know, but he just doesn't feel like he's got it in him to step up and be the guy who pulls us out of a ditch when everyone else is floundering... I'm not sorry we brought him in, it is possible we'd have gotten better, and he could definitely still go up a gear with the right attitude and coaching...

I'd give him a solid B+, with a "could do better if he exerted himself!" in his report card.

Wasn’t aware being a decent penalty box striker was a bad thing? It’s exactly what we need. Jota Kuhn Hatate Maeda Engels and McGregor can all create, Johnson and Schlupp also get crosses in so a player like Idah is exactly what’s needed. He gets on the end of things.

Definitely is when you’re capable of Rugby Park and Villa Park performances. Much, much, more in his armoury than a poacher.

Villa park where his two goals came from being in the right place in the box to finish well? Don’t really see the issue? Think you just like disagreeing with people a lot :giggle1: Never said he was a poacher.

Not talking about his 2 goals at Villa Park, I’m talking about his overall performance.

He ran the channels, held the ball up, was powerful with and without the ball and brought the midfield and wingers into play. That’s him at his best and, for me, the last thing he could be described as is a decent penalty box striker.

He has a lot of attributes.

As I and others have said before though it's whether he can bring it all together.

End of the day we've paid £9m for him and I think he'd expect to be the main man so needs to work hard and show why.

I still have my doubts as to whether it'll all work out consistently but hopefully does. We will undoubtedly sign another striker this summer.
