Belfast Celtic to Reform!

I don't know how many people seen it, but there's a third tier being created in the Irish football pyramid, and Belfast Celtic are one of the applicant's!

The formation of their spiritual heirs, Donegal Celtic, fell flat in the 90s, when they couldn't get the Belfast Celtic license to make their succession official. And since then, Swifts rent the name and license.

But since Belfast Celtic left the Irish league in 49, their license and place remains active. And they have fielded underage teams in recent years.

So it seems, for the first time in 70 years, the original club is about to reform and have applied to join the third tier in the league in the South of Ireland. The sister club of Glasgow Celtic, when in Ireland, they were simply called "Celtic".

This isn't related to Glasgow Celtic per say, but I thought it might be of interest to Celtic fans in general, the reformation of their sister club. 70 years we've had to wait, but the original incarnation of the club has applied to the League of Ireland!

Great news. My auld da followed the Belfast Celtic, hence the username. Hope something comes of this.

 

My dad was at their last games. If this does happen would be amazing. Given why they stopped originally that's a real positive too.
