Think about 20 minutes into the game the plan was to get Scales to try and push him towards their box and for him to commit to nipping in and getting the pass to him in their half.

It worked to an extent. Also * us to an extent. Even if what I think changing tactically to defend that way is right, it’s clearly not to the extent of abandoning everything else except that.

So tactics or not, was still poor for the third.

Rangers 3-0 and poor tonight, what’s the other ones not coping against the better teams? Dortmund I’ll add but that was everyone really, him at his best would have done * all to that game.

Guy has the most MotM awards in the CL ever for us, several stand out games against the Huns. And they two examples are probably the only ‘better’ teams we give that label to. Even this season, one of the very best teams we played Atalanta he was outstanding, Hun cup final we brought him on at half time and it changed the game completely.

What other calamity performances against the better teams can we point towards?

On the face of it a reasonable ask. But where.would we find a CL level centre half happy to sit predominantly on the bench? We won't. Scales is a decent back up who can be a solid option although yes at an elite level against clubs spending tens of millions on strikers he is out of his depth.

We’re not going to find a player better than him that’s happy to be back up, he’s had some brilliant performances for us in Europe as well but Villa were just too quick and powerful.

Thought he should have done better for the goal, albeit he's not played much recently so will be a bit rusty.

Poor for their goal but actually thought he looked really effective at left back, has done a few times recently. Very handy player to have around.

    Mince for the goal.

Folk having a go at Trusty yet as soon as Scales is on he is at fault for a goal. Skinned so easily.

Can put it down to a little bit of rust perhaps, but yes, he was beaten pretty easily for the goal from what it seems.

Barely played recently and out of position. Harsh to criticise him, I think he could have been used more to keep him sharp.

    It's pretty basic defending tbh.

If other players who've played a lot lately and are out on their feet are getting criticised then I wouldn't say it's harsh to critique Scales who needs to be coming in and showing he's deserved of a start.

He's achieved far more than I ever expected in a celtic shirt and always gives his all but another CB of quality is a must this summer.

Personally I thought it was a pretty basic defending error on his part for the goal, mistimed a tackle rather than show him down the line.

Agreed it's basic, but as I said, he's not had much game time at all. Hard for a CB to come in from the cold mid game and perform.

To your point though, others do look out on their feet. I just think Scales could have been used given Trusty a rest a few times now. I think the same for McCowan and Hatate.

Hes rusty. Its his hair. He's still a brilliant back up.

    This * has to stop.

Bringing the ball out, runs into trouble, pushed out wide, scraps it away.
    Transition.
Hes running back like a headless chicken, head swivelling all over the shop trying to spot the runner (the goal scorer).
Closes him down, attempts to tackle, pulls OUT of the tackle knowing hes miles off.
While hes pulling out, Morris is already away.
Throws his * arms out at him.

    Goal.

Could've gave away a penalty with the tackle he pulled out of.
Could've gave away a penalty if Morris wasnt already clear of his grabbing.

The guy is * calamity. End of.

Very happy to see him come on at LB. Due to the fact that it means Taylor is done.
