Needs to sort out the away form. 2 wins in the league from the last 6 away games is rotten.

Hopefully with the European football finished now we can pick it up again in the league and run away with it.

His contract situation is a bit of a concern for me.

I just can't see the board significantly backing him in the summer with players for his system, particularly if he's increasing the top wages we are paying, if they think he might only be here for one more year. They will worry we might be stuck with big earners that don't suit a system for a new manager added to us probably having a harder time getting CL money with more qualifiers going forward on top.

So if he hasn't signed a contract extension before the window opens I'm not expecting much to happen with incomings.

If the Board do not back Rodgers properly in the summer they should all do a one way jump into the Clyde!

We've done well past few windows trimming the * away but, now need to add the 3/4 bits of quality to add to the squad in terms of numbers. Those 3/4 bits of quality would see us in to CL, and in to another play off round, where I'd be confident (wi a bit of luck in the draw) getting though.

Certainly would see us win the league again also.

So that is Rodgers faced 6 (incld interim Murty) different Sevco managers across both terms and seen every one of them off.

Roll on the 7th! He genuinely is the only Elite manager in this Country and one of best we have ever had!

Need to get a new contract sorted.

Least if we know his intentions we can plan ahead (no laughing).

I guess the question is will they appoint someone just now for Brendan to see off or will it be interim arrangements to the summer?

If they are actually getting taken over you would think it would be the latter. Also most decent managers wouldn’t fancy coming into this the now and being associated with this season.

Can't imagine he'd sign it until the summer anyway... Remember, he's got a life too! Can't imagine if this season's progress resulted in a big team coming in he wouldn't be at least tempted, or use it to leverage his position with our board...

He is in a very strong bargaining position, I'll give you that.

Given our finances, I think he might fancy another couple of goes at the Champions League before moving on.

It would be interesting to know what Rodgers and the club deem as being "backed" in the Summer. Do you look at it in terms of no. of players signed? Or amount of expenditure? Or level of player?

I think we will spend in the Summer - but its not going to be like 50 million pounds. Id say its will be similar to last Summers expenditure. Max 20-30M range unless we sell a couple of our best players. Thats not going to get you 5 or 6 quality players which is the impression I think the wider support wants. It might get 2 quality players and a couple of squad / project style players.

Looking at the squad overall - it would be interesting to know where Rodgers see the priority strengthening needed. Striker probably. Not sure what his priority after that would be. A lot of the support want a quality defensive midfielder it seems Rodgers is happy with McGregor occupying that slot.

£50m spend would be a statement of intent and wouldn't even impact us to a great degree financially. We could cover it by selling Hatate and UCL qualification. We'd be in profit still.

Definitely level of player I think. He's said himself during the summer transfer window that we could have signed lots of players but it's important to get the right quality.

The fans might want 5 or 6 quality players but I'd be more realistic and say we're likely to get 2 or 3, and also replace anyone that leaves. Even that improves us for next year.

    Hatate

    Kuhn / Jota

I think if we take the above as our likely first choice team for next season as things stand now - its probably the guys highlighted that I think could most easily be upgraded on relative to our budget if we decided to go with a couple of high quality signings.

I think we will spend on a striker. And the board and Rodgers are on the same page on that one.

Wide men - I think we would struggle to get better than what we have now for the kind of expenditure we can afford. So probably no significant signing there expected.

Midfield - depends if we move Hatate on. Id like to see another quality signing here because Hatate and Bernado havent really been consistently good enough this year. I also think we need to prepare for reducing McGregors game time and reliance on him in that midfield role. But unless we actually lose one of our current midfielders Im not sure there will be a big outlay there.

LB - Tierney will join with either Taylor or Schlupp offering support depending on how things play out.

RB - Johnstone is a stalwart. We could upgrade on Ralston but given hes home grown and happy to be a back up Im not sure theres much intention to strengthen here.

CB - We are thin here I think and could improve. If CCV isnt fit we have a problem. And even if he is fit, our starting CB pairing isnt very good on the ball given Rodgers likes to play out of defence. I think thats creating an over reliance on McGregor to link everything together and when hes effectively marked we start to really struggle getting the ball forward.

Would love to see it, but I think £30m possibly does it, and that’s with 8 players in if we play our cards right.

LB - Tierney and Schlupp on frees.

Then one each in for the following 6 positions, at £5m each (on average, so you could have two at ~£2m each, three at ~£5m, and one in at ~£11m, for example):

RB (backup) - improve on Ralston in Europe.
CB (backup) - Nawrocki replacement; partner for Scales on days like last Saturday.
DM (first-team option) - someone to let Callum move one up.
CM (first-team option) - Hatate replacement; athletic and mobile no. 10 type.
RW (backup) - Left-footer to deputise for Kühn.
ST (first-choice) - Kyogo successor; Kvistgaarden or otherwise.

Wouldn’t mind if one of those was a loan or another free.

I'd definitely take that. It needs to be £30m+ though. Press on.

Will also tell how hard the new guy has been working behind the scenes. * forgot his name that's how often he's been mentioned.

Brendan Rodgers has commented on the departure of Philippe Clement, following his dismissal as Rangers manager last night.

In his pre-match press conference ahead of Aberdeen’s visit to Celtic Park tomorrow (Tuesday), the Celtic manager gave his take on the news surrounding the Belgian. He said: “Like it is for any manager, I'm always disappointed when a manager loses his job.

“Philippe has been in there for the period of time that he has, and I'm disappointed for him as a coach. I think we all know the conditions up here. You have to be winning and show that consistency to win. But I'm always sad when another manager loses his job.

“Philippe has shown previously, coming into the Rangers, that he's a very good manager. He's won titles. He's not just a good coach; he's a winning coach and has won. Like I say, we know the conditions up here. There's relentless pressure on you to win at Celtic and Rangers. The expectation is there and that doesn't stop on a daily basis.

“You have to then come out and be a consistent winner. It's obviously a symbiotic relationship, the pressure in Glasgow. I think it's also how we've (Celtic) dealt with the pressure. I think that's been key to it.

“I think we didn't get off to the best of starts in the last season when I came in. Certainly in terms of consistency and performance level. I think when Philippe came in, obviously, they had that bounce and had a really good run.

“But then once we started to find our feet and get our rhythm, then I think how we dealt with pressure, we dealt with it really, really well. From that moment, we've continued to grow and improve. It's a great credit to the players and how they've coped with that and how they've consistently performed

Rodgers continued: “I've seen his work outside of Rangers as well. They need to look at that and his CV to show that Rangers employed a very good manager.

“That's what they felt at the time, and that's why they gave him the job.”

Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat to St Mirren proved to be the final straw for Rangers and Clement, as the two parted ways on Sunday evening.

The former Genk, Club Brugge and Monaco manager won the League Cup in 2023, beating Aberdeen in the final 1-0.

Id be aiming for 3 guys at 10M a piece to really come in as first team starters and lift the team. I think the squad as it is now is good enough to win a domestic treble. We probably need that quality boost for Europe.

1 CF, 1 CM and 1 CB to really bring another level of quality in would be my aim.
