He looks like he's playing a preseason friendly most weeks. No aggression or presence or anything really.

If he was a 19 year old from the b team we'd all be saying how he looks ok but we desperately need to sign a striker. Because he cost so much I think we are all desperate to see something more in him but probably just isn't there.

Look, if he's in all games with a full-flight Jota and Kuhn, McGregor and Engels around him he's gonna hit 20 goals a league season probably, or about 20-30 goals in all competitions. That's not a bad return on his investment.

However, it's becoming more and more clear that it's dangerous to look upon him as our first choice striker, especially when our back is to the wall. It's just not a role he seems to be able to fill at present. Can it be coached into him? I dunno! Rodgers appears to think so... He's definitely getting about ok, but as you say it seems like he's got at least another gear he's got no intention of hitting, preferring to slipstream on others instead...

He's gotta do better than he is right now...

Has been playing well of late. They all had mares.

However if he's to stamp down his position as no1 foe the foreseeable he needs to find a level of consistency and improve of the ball.

He's a big lump and can score goals , and is a good squad player. We need a striker in the summer , we know this. Knew it before today. A top striker will score 35 plus in all competitions in this side.

I don't believe he is good enough to be our no1 striker tbh.

This is it for me, he needs to find that extra bit of consistency if he wants to be our number 1 striker, especially as I think we'll splash big on striker in the summer.

At the same time he's been excellent since Villa away, and considering the team themself were awful, I think he's allowed one bad game, there's definitely a few posters in here that were waiting to jump down his throat at the sign of a poor game.

He was rank today and his lack of energy and effort just seemed to rub off on his team mates. Wasn’t surprised we improved when he came off.

Need way more from him if wants to be the main man. He can’t just turn up when he fancies it and expect to be a Celtic number 9.

He's wildly inconsistent. Will have his good days but overall not near being ready to be Celtic main striker and BR knows it hense why he wanted another in the door.

He reminds me so much of Samaras, in that he has all the attributes to be a top striker and when he puts them all together can be real handful.

However, he far too often has this slack, unfocused approach and massively underperforms and today was a prime example of that.

The energy point is a good one.

Maeda and kyogo centrally set the tone. I do worry for Idah he's never going to be able to offer that. Few can, mind.

But he could still do so much more using the attributes he has.

I have a feeling I might be hypercritical here, but, with Kuhn in this position I want my striker sprinting into the box rather than a half arsed jog, pointing and screaming for a cross. Maybe he saw Kuhn's head was down and he was cutting back... still... Ach I'm just annoyed at the big man today :(

Nah, he's just keeping his powder dry there to stay onside. If he "busts a gut" he'd go offside, unless he works out a good curve... Kuhn isn't interested in supplying it fast, so the defence shut all the avenues down

This one in isolation you could read either way, that he's staying onside, or not making the choice to either attack the goal, curve his run or put the brakes on and take up the gap between the defence and midfield.

If Kuhn curls a good ball across goal from there I guess there's a good enough chance it makes it past the defenders and he could get on the end of it, but he really just didn't look like he was up to it today in general, which is really disappointing because you'd think after Maeda starting midweek he should not only have energy to spare but a point to prove.

I've been pretty consistent in my opinion that he's just never really convinced me he's a player we had to sign last summer, even when everyone was on a high after he scored the winner in the cup final, it's not like he had a great game that day all round, I hoped he'd turned a corner now and would step up after Kyogo was away and he'd put in a few good performances, but we've seen this kind of effort from him too much, it's concerning.

I thought the same at the time.. but Kuhn rarely puts a 1st time ball in with his right..

Tbf Kühn is a leftie and also pretty very one footed. Don’t know if I’ve seen him put in a quick cross with his right. In fact he usually waits for AJ’s overlap if we put that cross in.

His movements are terrible and his second touch is a tackle not good for a guy who cost 9m

He had one of his 'I've never kicked a ball before' performances. 4 touches to trap a ball that only required one, hesitant, flat footed, indecisive. We can't afford for him to do that now Kyogo has left the building. Time to be the main man and shape up or ship out.

He’s not went for the option of the cut back or trying to get in the position to beat the CB to any ball in. He’s done nothing there. That’s * criminal. I didn’t notice that at all, and his performance was already one of the most annoying I can remember recently. I like big Idah, really like him. Said before the game had a feeling he’d run riot. 20 minutes in I wanted him subbed already. He was truly shocking today. 2 * I watched it with disagreed thought I was being harsh, thought I was going mad because it’s two who are really clued up football wise, and can be harsh * watching a game. This thread and * seeing the same is genuinely soothing for the soul.

He looked uninterested, and although he did come on in Munich, he wasn’t on the pitch long enough for me to give him the leeway some others have because Wednesday clearly took a lot out of some mentally and physically, more mentally, we didn’t look tired and unfit, we looked mentally shattered. Idah doesn’t have that excuse for me. He shouldn’t be looking uninterested and not working, we never should be, but some I felt understandable yesterday. He was playing like he knows even his best form lately and Kyogo away, he’s still second choice due to Maeda’s form and Jota hitting the ground running. And he’s accepted it rather than fighting for first choice

This was the exact moment I was talking about with the boy I was watching it with. I have absolutely no idea why he doesn't make the run towards the 6 yard line and can be crossed early for a tap in. He just jogs straight into traffic .
