Celtic have confirmed that Kieran Tierney will return to the club in July 2025.

Tierney was linked with a return to Celtic during the January transfer window. That did not materialise, but manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed last month that there was a pre-agreement in place.

In their latest interim financial report, published on Monday, Celtic confirmed that the full-back has signed a pre-contract agreement and will return in July.

During the January 2025 transfer window, we acquired the permanent registration of Jota and the temporary registration of Jeffrey Schlupp," the report said.

"In addition, we extended the contract of Kasper Schmeichel and entered into a pre-contract agreement that will see Kieran Tierney return to Celtic in July 2025. We disposed of the registrations of Kyogo Furuhashi, Alexander Bernabei and placed Luis Palma, Odin Holm and Stephen Welsh on Loan

Tierney rose through the Celtic academy and played 170 games for the club before joining Arsenal in a £25m deal back in 2017.

He has since gone on to make 129 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions, scoring five goals and adding 13 assists.

Sky Sports News reported Celtic were pushing to sign the Arsenal defender on loan in the January transfer window, with the view of completing the deal in the summer. However, Arsenal opted to keep Tierney at the Emirates until the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

The 27-year-old defender has made five appearances for the Gunners this season but only one of these outings arrived in the starting line-up against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.

The Hoops also allowed Alex Valle to cut his loan move from Barcelona short to join Serie A side Como, with Jeffrey Schlupp heading the other way from Palace to offer cover at left-back

Speaking while the window remained open, Rodgers said: “Ideally it would [happen in January] but, at this moment, he’s still an Arsenal player.

"I think everyone is agreed that it will definitely take place in the summer. If we can do it beforehand, then great.

“I don’t know. I think that, like I said, we’d prepared that for the summer. And I don’t want to speak too much on it, with the greatest respect, because he’s not a Celtic player here now with us.

“But, if we were able to do it, of course we would like to do that. But that’s out of our control at this moment in time.”

Kieran Tierney has agreed an astronomical deal at Celtic which will see him be the highest earner at the club, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition ofFootball Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 27-year-old will not get “anywhere near” what he is currently doing at Arsenal but will still smash all pay records at Parkhead

Celtic have a strict wage structure as the Scottish giants rarely give out massive wages to players, and certainly a long way from the Premier League elite, which is why Tierney has taken a “substantial pay cut” to return to his boyhood club.

However, the Scotland international is still set to be on the best wage and he will get a big signing-on fee too as he prepares for the move north of the border.

Brendan Rodgers views the experienced defender as someone who will improve the squad, which will make the wage fees worthwhile.

Rodgers is looking to strengthen his options across the team as he aims to push the club even further in Europe moving forward

Tierney might be set to receive high wages when he returns to Celtic, but well-placed sources have told Football Insider it shouldn’t cause issues with current players in the squad.

Others are set to be rewarded, while Cameron Carter-Vickers and Callum McGregor are also high earners at the club.

Rodgers sees it as an opportunity to make progress and he’s aware that the club will likely have to spend big money wages to attract them to Scotland in the first place.

The full-back is a proven defender at the highest level of football, having made 129 appearances for Arsenal during his time at the Gunners.

However, Tierney has fallen out of the team in recent times as he has only played five times this season in all competitions.

Tierney has proven himself capable of playing at the top level in Scotland too during his initial spell at the club, playing 170 times

That's what usually happens when big players come on a free due to the lack of transfer fee.

He might not be the £25 mill player we sold but he'll be no less than £15 mil

If he gets a few minutes here and there and stays injury free it bodes well for us for next season

Can't help feeling Tierney and Arteta don't get on.

    No wonder he wanted away.

Arteta is a wee ratface *, KT was only blasting oot the rebs in the locker room and now he gets made to sit on bench.

Weird thing is at first, Arteta * loved him and his attitude. Seen Arsenal fans talking about him saying he’s still quality, but doesn’t fit the formation, Arteta sticking to inverted full backs.

It is weird considering that, but managers can fall out with you somewhere along the line, you are never sure of your place in their mindset. Think the spat with Lenny and McGeady.?

His lack of availability for games and change of style on the pitch is probably the reasons behind it.

Literally zero chance. He won’t be on a penny more than Cal so circa 45.

Decent sign on fee probably. Wasn’t sure what Cal was on, thought our highest earner was at 50k at this stage.
