Think long term his future might be deeper, he's got the composure, turning speed and the passing range. If he can strengthen up and win more interceptions he could be a great option for rotating with McGregor.
Feel like he's got more to offer there than further forward

Yeah he gives me the fear at times though , gets caught with the man on at times , can't do that in the deeper role.

Brendan Rodgers has revealed Paulo Bernardo should be fit to face Bayern Munich.

The Celtic boss has confirmed the substitution was more of a precaution than due to a serious injury problem for the midfielder.

Bernardo had to be replaced after 37 minutes with Reo Hatate coming on in the 5-0 win over Raith Rovers.

The Portuguese midfielder appeared to be feeling the effects of a Jprdan Doherty tackle in the first half.

A free-kick was awarded for the tackle with Bernardo left in discomfort and hobbling off the pitch.

But Rodgers has confirmed the midfielder should be ready to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

He told Premier Sports: "He probably came off a wee bit more as a precaution.

"He just rolled, rocked his ankle a wee bit.

    "He should be okay."

Doing very little for me these days. Has disappeared into his shell after a promising early season.

Don't understand what's going on with him just now. Working hard but very little apart from that.

Had high hopes for him but unless something changes before the end of the season it wouldn't surprise me if we try and get our money back.

Very disappointing that he hasnt progressed into a player who's holding down a first team position. Yeah he's young and all that but he should be showing a lot more than what he is. His turn and shot that basically set up Idah's goal in the Cup Final last season was excellent, we all expected to see a lot more of that this season but he's been nothing more than a squad filler this season. Needs to step up and show what hes got, and not just for one game and then fall off the radar for the next 15 games.

He's just not doing it for me recently.

McCowan is a better player and I don't think thats remotely controversial

I hope it's just a dip in form, that you get with young players. Maybe he just needs a goal or assist to boost his confidence.

Thought he was OK tonight but aye overall he's not really pushing on how he should be. Think he'll come good again though he's shown he's a player.

Played a huge role in the opening goal today and tbh, I'd be highly irritated too if I just had a stormer against the huns (arguably motm that day at the beginning of the season) and then got inexplicably dropped for Engels solely down to the price tag

Fwiw and I know this will be a hugely unpopular opinion, I rate Bernardo higher than Engels and would be starting Bernardo ahead of Engels every week

It was for sure disappointing he didn't get to play the full game or close to it today as you feel he needs the minutes. Nice little touch to set up the opening goal today though. Good news to hear that he only came off as a precaution and it was nothing serious.

Yeah was a shame definitely, could have done with 90 mins. As I say I'm not overly worried about him going forward, maybe a bit annoyed he isn't taking command of games at the minute.

I think you're right in the sense he had a right to feel aggrieved early in the season. He was playing well and it very much seemed like the price tag was the difference in who started.

Now though? Engels, Hatate and McCowan are all looking more impressive. Infact whilst Bernardo had the right, it could be argued McCowan has a right to be * off any time Bernardo comes on or starts before him at the moment.

Even now yeah, McGregor, Bernardo and Hatate would be my MF

I won't get into it on Engels because I'll derail the thread away from Bernardo plus I have a novel worth of opinions on Engels that'll cause too much dispute which is unnecessary after a great victory

Shame he had to go off so early, I'm glad he's seemingly ok.

I think Bernardo is quite comfortably better personally just a dip in form. McGowan for me could never dominate a derby game like Paulo did in September. Hes not been back at that level for a while though, had a right to feel aggrieved at not starting more in the first few months.

Celtic will be without Paulo Bernardo for the next four or five weeks.

Brendan Rodgers has revealed that the midfielder will be out of action after picking up an ankle knock in last weekend's Scottish Cup tie against Raith Rovers.

The Portuesge midfielder came off second best in a tackle that saw him needing to be withdrawn during the first half of the comfortable victory.

The Northern Irishman addressed his squad availability in his pre-match media duties ahead of tomorrow's Scottish Premiership game against Dundee United.

It was here that he revealed Bernardo is currently wearing a protective moon boot.

He said: "Paulo will be out for a few weeks. He's got his ankle in a boot, so he'll be four or five weeks.

With so many games, the squad depth is needed. Paulo has done great for us this season.

"What we've tried to do with all of the players is keep them fit by rotating and maximising the whole squad.

"Sadly, he's out for a little while, but we do have good numbers in that position."

Wonder if he's been carrying something, been off it the last month.

A very talented player on his day, it wasn't long ago people were questioning how we got him for £3.5 million.
