I think Calmac still more than capable, it's the mentality that's the issue.
If he's feeling nervous or pressured, we get uber negative Calmac - increasingly so these days.
But if you take last 25mins, he was aggressive and positive - the only difference being confidence and positivity.

Thought he was relatively poor. There was an instance where he got robbed on the edge of our box, then skinned by the Bayern lad. Just looked sluggish.

I also thought we started the 2nd half really flat. Not pinning that entirely on him, but feels as though the captain has to have the boys 100% switched on and focussed.

I still thought he was good tbh, thought the whole midfield were pretty decent and you have to remember who we were playing against but he's defo a bit negative in possession and has lost a step for me which I feel hampers us.

Really looks to be struggling slightly at this level now.
I definitely think he'd be better playing a more forward role, as he literally does not have any influence against top opposition at a higher level when playing in a deeper position.
That role demands so much, but sadly it looks more and more like Cal is lacking in there.
Absolute legend for us, but it's quite noticeable now that he gets overrun against top class opposition.

Has a bad habit of taking the ball back. Actually they realised this, and it nearly cost us in our own box. Needs to turn and pass on, and move forward.

Clearly declining and is an issue that needs addressing sooner rather than later, but don't think he was at his worst tonight.

He was OK tonight. Got away with a couple of brain farts but he covered a lot of ground and kept the ball reasonably well in general.

We’ll be doing well if we can sign a DM who can boss it against a side like Bayern tbf.

Played well I thought, for them to bring Muller on to sit on him a clear indication that Kompany thought the same the last 20.

Put in a shift, was fighting fires alone in midfield in first half, drove us on in the second half. Just feel that we would get more from him if we had a defensive midfield beast beside him in Europe.

Thankless job for him tonight. Man marked for most of the game yet still receiving pass after pass with little options around him.

Never stopped showing for the ball really but its a pity we dont have defenders who are comfortable enough on the ball to be able to go past McGregor and use him as a decoy. Bayern were waiting to pounce on him every time.

A DM who has the awareness and ability to play little forward/round the corner passes into space to get a break away going for the other two midfielders instead of back to the CB's would transform us. McGregor is a tad too cautious in there for me .

Don't think he was bad. Don't think he was great either.

Again, I'd like us to spend some good money on another midfielder who can play that role.

He needs to be on half turn when receiving the ball. Doesn't seem to aware what's around him. His first reaction is always to play backwards - it is hampering us against the better teams.

Yep I agree. Cannae believe the number of folk that thought he had a poor game, bearing in mind it was bayern Munich we were playing.

He's still never been or will be suited to playing the deepest of a 3 he was ok tonight but barring a couple of forward runs I felt he played it fairly safe

He was fine. Played it back the way far too often though.

Bayern press was so good not much else he could do, doesn't have that acceleration to beat players like he used to

That's the issue and for first 65mins is what makes it a poor and not OK or fine performance from Calmac.
It slows the whole team down, consistently moves us backwards, invites pressure and makes us too easy to play against, especially a top team.

When he is positive on the ball, it sets tempo for whole team and we are very, very good - it just happens less and less nowadays.
