From where we have been for over a decade, 1-2 to Bayern in a playoff is more than acceptable progress TBH.

I feel like he still can't win.

Before the game everyone worrying about taking a thumping, asking for years for us to be more compact etc. He does it and folk moan and say we should have attacked from the get go.

Villa played the same way and so did Feyenoord against Bayern. It didn't get us a result tonight but I think it was the right approach if a wee bit too passive 1st half.

But you have to consider the level we are at here Jesus man.

Genuinely can't get my head around some opinions already.

We've been getting thumped by far weaker teams than Bayern Munich for over a decade now. This campaign has been incredible progress and this result was respectable. This is the least down I've felt about a defeat at CP since probably Ajax under MON. I'm really proud of this campaign and it's been over a decade since I could say that about a CL campaign.

The thing now is to back him again in the summer and go up another level for next year's campaign. Get him the players he needs. He's earned them.

I think we'll see Maeda as central striker next week.

Bayern hammer better teams than us. He got us competitive with them, and with a bit of luck could have levelled the tie.

I think managing the game the way we did first half was the right way to go, waiting and growing into it. I think he set us up just fine and were it not for two silly mistakes it would have worked a treat.

Can't ask for more from him tbh. He's got us set up to look solid at this level while still posing a threat against top teams. Some of our wee one touch passing and rotations to get out were a joy to behold.

Best manager since MON and it’s not even close. Gie the man whoever he wants and let him build us into consistent European performers.

Delighted Rodgers (in amongst the praise) calling out our lack of aggression and being overly passive in first 60mins.
    Stan Petrov also.

We are a really promising team but this is something we really need to work hard on.
Mentality is critical - positivity, aggression and confidence being key attributes we are a little short on right now.
I believe Brendan will improve that side of the game for us, might take a few new players but he'll get us there.

You could see the difference in approach from the get go tonight. We had 10 men behind the ball a lot of the time but always felt we could break at any time. Even when they had us pinned back, it comes down to the difference in quality at the end of the day. We can’t expect too much.

I’m not expecting anything next week, play the way we did in the last 20, give our all and who knows what can happen. We’re playing against players in a different stratosphere and don’t look totally out of it.

Not seeing the change of approach I must say. We lined up with same team and approach we do for every other game. We sat back because Bayern didnt allow up to play and pinned us in our own half. We tried our usual passing out from the back and were unable to because Bayern marked McGregor out of the game and won the ball back quickly.

I think Rodgers had been pretty clear hes not going to change how he plays. Dont believe he approached this game intending for us to sit in.

Mate we only need to think back to days gone by when we were out at the qualifying stage against Malmo and Maribor etc.

Now I'm seeing us play spells of really good football in the knockouts against Bayern and in the end running them close.

I get the argument that glorious failure shouldn't come into it but ultimately they are miles ahead of us quality wise so you have to take the wins where they're evident.

Other than Dortmund blip, strong showing in Europe this year. Deserves credit despite losing to Bayern tonight, which if we are being honest was probably a step too far for us the moment the draw was made. Needs to keep building on it.

Bayern could easily turn up and thump us by a few goals next Tuesday. However, keep the game tight, defend as well as we did in the first 44 mins tonight, play as aggressive as we did in the last 20 mins tonight, and anything could happen. Get the first goal over there, and all the pressure will be on Bayern… just don’t concede early.

Whats really crippling us is lack of domestic competition. Trying to go from Dundee and Raith to Bayern Munich is too big a gap to bridge the way the game is played now. That more than anything puts a ceiling on how far we can go.

If we tried to press them high the entire game we would have got pasted like we did at Dortmund.

We’ve grown massively in 12 months in terms of our European performance, there’s 1 goal in it over there and if we start Maeda upfront and get those CB’s uncomfortable early doors who knows what can happen.

The amount of money we can pay for players is the biggest issue. But that goes hand in hand with the league I suppose.

That's never gonna change. Even if we did play in a better standard of league on paper, beating a side like Bayern over two legs is always going to be tough.

Brendan Rodgers believes Celtic can pose a threat in Germany as he challenged his squad to have "no regrets" after their 2-1 first leg UEFA Champions League play-off loss to Bayern Munich at Parkhead.

Michael Olise's stunning strike just before half-time gave Bayern the lead, capping off a dominant first 45 performance. He fired a powerful shot beyond Kasper Schmeichel after cutting in from the right.

And that was quickly added to after the interval as England captain Harry Kane found himself unmarked at the back post and volleyed in his 29th goal of the season.

Celtic looked a lot more threatening when Jota, Jeffrey Schlupp, and Hyun-Jun Yang were introduced, and that coincided with Daizen Maeda, who was initially going to be serving a suspension, being unleashed through the middle following Adam Idah's withdrawal.

Maeda flourished up there on his own and reduced arrears on 79 minutes, setting up a thrilling finale.

Celtic were unable to get another goal to earn a draw that they chased hard for. However, it does mean that there’s still all to play for when Rodgers' men visit the Allianz Arena in Munich next week.

Speaking to TNT Sports, the Celtic boss said: "We get one more shot, it's a new level for a lot of the players. They've done absolutely great. So, we've got one more shot now in a wonderful arena, a fantastic pitch. Let's go over and have no regrets, and let's see where it takes us.

"It's still tight, the game's still in the balance and I think if you defend strong and compete, and then we've shown that we can actually play football and that we can be a threat. We are still right in the tie.

"I mentioned beforehand about staying alive and being in the game because with their quality and the number of goals that they can score then sometimes these can be out of sight. But it wasn't the case at all. We can find confidence from that last period and I'm looking forward already to next Tuesday

He’ll genuinely never win, we open up against better sides and try and go at them only to get inevitably horsed, then when he sets us up properly to be more pragmatic and keep ourselves in with a wee bit of hope he’s too negative and they aren’t that good anyway.

Could we have been more aggressive? Yes, he said so himself but by opening up even ever so slightly you’re increasing the likelihood that you’ll just get carved open at will and then it’s just “same old”. The reality is football at the elite level is a tough school, playing against players who have won the lot and worth hundreds upon hundreds of millions. Rodgers (BVB aside) has got his tactics spot on for me, he’s got is competitive again at this level against some of the best Europe has to offer.

We’re incredibly fortunate he’s a tim because he’s by a country mile as good a coach as we could ever wish to have, and tbh got no right to have. Just really hope we back him properly in the summer and somehow convince him to give us another season at least.
