We need the balance we showed against leipzig on a more consistent basis in Europe but given that performance was the first time we’ve knocked a big team on their ar$e in years I’d say it’s easier said than done.

This is progress. Anyone annoyed by how “passive” we seemed in that first half need to remember how easily we can be cut open at times.

I thought we done well tonight. When you're playing teams a couple of levels up you need to play well and get lucky. We were a couple of small breaks away from a great result.

The second goal was a really soft one but that's what happens when you switch off for a second against better teams. We've done it plenty of times to smaller clubs in Scotland. Sometimes you just need to acknowledge the level in front of you , show discipline and 100% effort and if you lose you lose.

We are clearly showing progress and we are in the right direction. I'm feeling positive even though we lost.

We played a good game there.

Held them well until the goal just before half time. Olise got a lucky break of the ball that I'm not going to slate GT for and the finish shows the class of opposition, world class strike.

My only massive disappointment was the 2nd goal, they absolutely done us there and it was criminal to allow Kane to be unmarked.

After that though? We held our own and were the better team for the last 25-30 mins.

Bayern are a top team who'll fancy their chances of winning the tournament. We can hold our heads up.

As for the VAR decisions against us, both correct I think.

I am a bit gutted for the team as I feel they done themselves proud by and large in the game against a team of top class players.

Everyone of their outfield players would be more than our record signing and the forward line and midfield would be between 5-10 times that.

The reason I am gutted for them as it comes down to very fine margins. Kuhn’s goal if Idah is just on rather than just off, Taylor defended the long ball poorly for their first but he gets a knick on the ball and it falls in his path, their second goal is the poorest goal you will see in the champions league this round a straight forward back post cross and no one marking the most deadly striker in world football, on another night another ref gives a penalty after that VAR check, and we had three half chances with Maeda cutting out the pass back but just couldn’t turn it in, Hatate just not quite getting his strike right and Johnston on another night blasts that past Neuer. The full game actually came down to when Olise got one of his chances like that he picked out the top corner but he’s a £50m+ player.

I actually feel like we have played worse against top teams in the past and got a draw or a win in the games but just missed out on key moments both in defending and attacking and ultimately we got beat.

Who's said Bayern are an average side? Let me guess, Lewis Kerr? :56:

Real Madrid and Man City also in the play off.

There's probably about 3 average teams in the entire 36 team competition. And even then they're champions of their respective countries.

I'd say if they're average then what the * are we, mate:56:

I know what you mean but he’s competed in a 50/50 and only won it by manoeuvring in such a way he stamps on his opponent.

I know it’s not deliberate, but it’s very clumsy and clumsiness should be penalised when it results in a collision like that.

By comparison, if Engels gets the ball first there’s no way he will hurt the opponent like that because his challenge is safe.

Are Real Madrid an average side too? It could’ve been them if not for luck of the draw. A good few of the top European sides got caught out by the new format but whether they finished in the top 8 or not they’ll strongly fancy their chances at winning the tournament, whether they do or not is another thing but they’re undoubtedly one of the top teams in it.

I think the approach was spot on. It was a total change of tactics in comparison with how we normally set up, and if we didn't it's not out of the question we could have been looking at a scoreline like Dortmund.

That said I'm no reading into the mental takes on match threads anymore, there's always going to be different opinions, even when some are * wild. :56:

If Engels gets the ball first, I think it’s a stonewaller. I just think his touch on the ball is enough for it not to be considered a penalty, for me.

Absolutely take the point it’s clumsy. I just think the fact he gets the ball is enough. He’s lucky he gets that touch

I think the decision to disallow Kuhn's early goal was correct and fair but for me thats a PK on Engels I agree with you.

I dont think our approach to the game varied massively to Dundee or Raith. We didnt set out to sit back and defend. Bayern gave us no choice. First half they totally shut us down.

By average I obviously mean versus the elite in this competition. They're not the cream of the crop. Nowhere near it.

They're a good rung below the top sides. As said, be very surprised if they even make the semis.

Even Rodgers has just said we were passive and not aggressive enough btw.

Poor.team put.out.by brendan. Taylor should never play in europe again. He is 1st 2nd div player at best. If any team had a right side player that had balls they would beat him every game * worst player ever to put on a celtic Jersey. I can guarantee no one will remember him in 50 years unless its worst.left back for celtic

One of those where if it happens anywhere else on the pitch a foul is given. But because theres a penalty at stake they give the defender a pass.

Credit where its due. He came on and had a positive impact tonight including getting a vital touch that lead to Maeda's goal.
