Grand old team to play for
Harsh on Scales, he's absolutely good enough to be our 3rd choice CB. He was excellent last season and at the start of this season. His form has dipped since losing his place to Trusty, but he'll bounce back. I actually prefer him to Trusty who I think lacks a bit of balance or composure or something. Sometimes when the ball comes to him awkwardly or unexpectedly he looks like he can't sort his feet out.

Thats no a fair way to judge him. He's hardly played so it's unlikely it'll be many goals conceded.
But you can't use that statistic to judge him.

If he had only played 1 game for us and we did not concede in that game. Then we'd have lost zero goals while he has been playing. Easy to say if you've only played one game.
    Statistics can't be trusted sometimes.

If you have a goalkeeper who has only ever had one penalty taken against him. If he saved that penalty. Then he has a 100% record when it comes to saving penalties.
    Statistics can be daft

Our CBs were exposed in the big games against Dortmund and Villa when CCV was out. A player at or near CCVs calibre would transform us in these matches.

It's easier said than done though, I like Trusty but we spent the same on him as CCV.. and its more than competent CBs at CL level it's about having a midfield that can shield the defence and retain possession too..

Yeah Ur right and I agree with you.

But I'd also say then that the original poster calling him * hopeless based on such a small sample size was also unfair, particularly when the team as a whole had conceded so few goals when he did play

Yeah. He has not played enough for us to properly judge his qualities. We can't judge if he is good enough or not.

However, the fact that he has not been knocking at the door for a start...pretty much at all, suggests in itself that he probably isn't good enough I'm afraid. He'd have made more inroads into the first team if he was.

    Fair comment.

It's a choice between a project, a gamble or a player with a strong experienced background that is perhaps not getting a lot of game time. Which was the situation with CCV. I think we have enough projects, Trusty can come under the gamble (not a bad one to be fair) and if we can get the third option in on a loan with a view to buy we might find success.

Original point was in reference to Lagerbielke but yeah Ur point still stands for him last season too.

Think both will be away in the summer at any rate

Van djik and Rudiger would struggle playing for us in champions league with the way our midfield is set up.

We must be one of the only teams in champions league that doesn't have a proper defensive midfielder.

Lagerbielke and Scales was the most make shift un-tried centre half pairing in a very long time.
It was the first Glasgow derby of last season at ibrox. Our defence got ravaged with injuries and they two got dropped in the deep end. And nae Celtic fans allowed in the Govan Assylum to make it worse.

Kyogo cracking goal just before h/t and we won 1 nil. Both Lagerbielke and Scales had wonderful performances, when it could have been a recipe for disaster. That game made Scales at Celtic. Lagerbielke fell back down the pecking order and drifted into obscurity.

    It's a strange one
