Who was that other Japanese striker we had a few weeks ago? Mind him?

Daizen Maeda is criminally under-rated and undervalued by a large section of the Celtic support. All you hear is this utter crap about how he is technically poor or misses chances sometimes. The guys a Japanese international striker for Christ sake and has scored some absolutely brilliant goals for Celtic that are anything but technically poor. There is a rumour that all three Japanese players asked for a move earlier in the season, Kyogo is already gone but Daizen would be a MASSIVE loss to us. I would be sickened if Celtic let Daizen go without doing everything in their power to keep him.

The fact you've had to go back 22 years for an example sort of proves my point. We (rightly ) sell players at the right time now , football is a completely different economy to the early noughties, we were fairly competitive with the EPL in wages. I think Roy Keane was getting 50k a week as United captain the same time we were paying Henrik 40k a week. If an offer of 25m comes in for him this summer we will say no and let him leave for nothing in 2027?

We always sell our best players once the offer is right ..... it's literally our business model 101 ffs. Sickened?

There were standout performances across the pitch, but the headlines will, once again, belong to Daizen Maeda who grabbed a hat-trick on the day, taking his tally for the season to 21 and his overall tally in the hoops to 50.

And the Celts’ boss was quick to praise the Japanese forward after the match for his performance today and his contributions throughout the season so far.

He added: “Anyone who has done any depth of work on Daizen before he came in here, you’ll see he played as a striker at Yokohama and the various range of goals that he scored

“He might not be your traditional No. 9, but he runs in behind, is mobile, has speed and can make those finishes in the box.

“His three goals today were great. He can score different types of goals.

“He’s been absolutely sensational this season with his work rate. Because it’s not just the 21 goals, it’s everything else he brings to the team. I’m so happy for him.

Incredible. Excited to see how many he gets this season. Looks like scoring every game at the minute.

Better than Kyogo. If both of them played a full season as CF, Maeda would outscore him.

I mean no disrespect to Kyogo btw. What a player and a legend for us, but Maeda is just a different level.

    Right now, yes.

But let's not forget how good Kyogo was under Ange and that's no slight on Daizen

35 goals behind Kyogo. Fancy him to break that and hit a ton.

Talk to us a bit about Daizen Maeda, he got his hat-trick today, and his 50th goal for the club as well?

Yeah, he's been great. And again, as I've said before, if you've done any depth of analysis of this player before he arrived to Yokohama, you can see he's a striker. You see he's a goal scorer, wherever he plays along the front line.

He's done that in Japan, he was playing more central and you see his numbers. But not only that, if you watch all the goals he's scored there, the different types of goals, he may not be your traditional up-and-down number nine who can't move and just hits the ball and is a goal scorer in the box. He's a guy that's mobile, can make runs, his movement's good, he can finish, and he's proven that.

He's a wonderful reference for our team, the value that we put in hard work, pressing, mentality, and he's getting goals with it regularly now. So, yeah, so pleased for him, really happy for him and for the team.

It feels like he's in the form of his life, but how big a miss is he going to be for you on Wednesday night against Bayern?

Yeah, he will be, naturally, but I can't overthink it.

It's just that he's not available, but he's ready for the next games after that.

It was a chance for Daizen Maeda to play the centre-forward role. I think he must have a pretty good strike rate when he does play there for you, obviously. Is he taking that on board that it's a chance maybe to play there a bit more often for him?

Yeah, I've spoken to him. I told him the plan, really, over the next few games, leading into obviously him missing the Bayern game.

He knew Motherwell, Dundee and in this game, he would flip between the left side, central and wide, so he could frame it in his own mind. I know wherever he plays, he's got the skill set and the attributes to give me what the team needs.

You see that today. His first one was a great finish. A striker's finish is not lashed out, it's just guided into the bottom corner.

Second one, ball comes across, you've got to concentrate. How many times have people missed them or hit it over the bar, but good finish. And his third one, what he's done consistently now, and what we asked of our wingers to track the game into the box from low crosses, be there, and the speed he makes up to get there is frightening.

So, yeah, absolutely brilliant player. So happy he's with us.
