I can see your POV, but I'm not sure we have much to lose by being slightly weaker at LB for 5 months. Personally, I'd rather have the money; but I appreciate that most people will see it your way not mine.

We still have a Scottish Cup to win and the league isn't done yet either..

It's not as if we need the cash either.

How much do you suspect Zagreb would pay to get him 5 months early? £1m at the absolute most. Probably 500k. Definitely not worth it mate

Regarding the league, they would have to win both derbies and every single one of their other games and we would have to lose 3 from the 11 non-derby games. That seems unlikely. I'm not saying it can't happen, but it would be a collapse that would signal huge problems far bigger than just LB.

I think you make a fair point about the Scottish Cup.

Brendan Rodgers is adamant he can still convince Greg Taylor to sign a new Celtic deal - insisting there’s room for two quality left backs in his squad once Kieran Tierney arrives.

Reports coming out of Croatia on Thursday claimed the Scotland star had agreed terms on a summer move to Dinamo Zagreb. Taylor is a free agent at the end of the season and lengthy discussions with the Parkhead club over a new deal have yet to reach agreement. But Rodgers is still hopeful that will come in due course.

Tierney will seal an emotional return to Parkhead from Arsenal in the summer after agreeing a pre-contract - and that’s ramped up speculation Taylor could decide to move on with Fabio Cannavaro keen on taking him to Zagreb. But Rodgers is eager to keep hold of the 27-year-old who has won four titles in his five years at Parkhead. Rodgers said: “My feeling will be to still to hope to convince Greg to be here. Of course as the longer that goes on that becomes much less but it doesn’t change his professionalism. He is a brilliant professional.

“We will just have to see how the next four months go. I have had a number of open conversations with Greg on it. That (Kieran returning) is without doubt an issue.

“He has been a starter here for virtually six years. He’s always had a challenge that he’s overcome from other players coming in. He knows Kieran well and knows his qualities and abilities. But there still can be room for two of them here. There’s absolutely no doubt.

“You are playing upward of 50 games a season and you can’t play one player in all those. I wouldn’t want to because you won’t have the right physicality.

“To have two players of that quality here would be absolutely brilliant for the club, team and changing room. That’s the things Greg has to think about. From my perspective I don’t see it as a problem because I know he will play in a lot of big games. He has to decide that for himself. It would be a different role for him.

Judging by Rodgers comments it's not completely done yet.

I'd rather he stayed. Not a massive fan but he probably is a bit underrated in terms of his ability to step in and most weeks he is a 6 or 7 out of 10 and there's a lot to be said for that.

Is Tierney better if fit? By some distance aye. But as Rodgers will know and says himself we are gonna need reliable back up/rotation. At this stage of the season next year say wr have the same number of games and congested list, having a reliable rotation challenger is key.

Brendan speaking openly about the situation, basically confirming that it's the thought of playing second fiddle that's stopping him signing a new deal.

He's just publicly guaranteed him plenty of games, including big games, making it clear that GT has nothing to worry about. And hopes a deal can still be done.

Cone on Greg bhoy, get it together and sign the * papers!

Yeah I would definitely rather he stayed if it was possible to make a deal. What’s the chances Tierney can play weekend and midweek for multiple weeks running? Very slim I would imagine. There’s also a distinct possibility that he will be injured for large parts of the season - and he can also be deployed as a CB so there’s the possibility of a Johnston CCV Tierney Taylor back 4 maybe if the situation calls for it. He would be a critical member of the squad still if he stayed. But if he is going to be first choice at Zagreb I wouldn’t begrudge him the move.

Yeah! If it was some mid table EPL team we could probably still get a couple of £M for him, but they won't pay more than £250-500k, I'd imagine, if they're already locked on a pre-contract

KT will break down so GT will still be needed. So I think we should have a QT on the KT with GT.

I reckon he’d be a * to be around if he was to become the left back Ralston.

That being said, he’s a squad leader and has been successful here for a long period playing various different types of left back roles so I wouldn’t be too bothered either way no matter what he decides.

He could get a million or 2 sign on bonus with comparable wages to here and hot weather. I'd consider it knowing the clubs basically trying to replace you with better. (And better he is)

Wish him luck. Although I'd rather he stayed i get why he'd want another challenge. If he goes somewhere cold though.. * him :56:

Practically begging Greg * Taylor to stay. Speaks volumes for the ambition of our club as does the fact he's been a starter here for nearly 6 years.

Rodgers slightly talking pish there if we're honest, yeah Taylor would get plenty of games in general because Tierney's fitness will need to be managed, but "he will play in a lot of big games" only if Tierney is injured, there's no chance Taylor gets the nod ahead of him in a glasgow derby, cup final or a european game against strong opposition if Tierney is available and he knows it.
