Are you saying they accepted £5m? How has he not gone to Middlesborough, I wonder.

Relatively sure that we would have paid the 5million and looked to shift him on a year later or something… 10 million is just them looking at the fee we paid for Idah and thinking we could bite again.

If we’re signing a striker permanently, let’s actually spend some money and get the right one in the summer.

The jump probably represents them thinking that suddenly there's a bidding war between 2 clubs with cash to splash... A bit of a screw up on their part as they clearly didn't know us and they finished up chasing off Middlesbrough too

One to maybe look at again come the summer

Slovan Bratislava boss VladimIr Weiss has claimed that David Strelec DID have permission to join Celtic before a deadline day collapse.

Kyogo's departure has left the Hoops with Adam Idah left as the only recognised first-team striker after the deadline passed on Monday night with Johnny Kenny acting as back up - despite making just one appearance since returning from his successful loan spell at Shamrock Rovers. Daizen Maeda showed against Dundee that he could also lead the line as he netted a double during the 6-0 demolition job at Celtic Park

A deal appears to have fallen apart due to a difference in valuation between the two clubs - with Strelec's dad insisting a move to the Scottish Premiership would have been "great" for the 23-year-old. However, Weiss insists the Slovan talisman will have to refocus on the Slovakian title race

Speaking about Strelec before this weekend's clash with MFK Ruzomberok, the boss said: "We gave him permission to transfer for a while, then it stopped and then it didn't happen. Now he will have to return with his head down to earth, knowing that he will definitely be here until the summer. I believe that his goals will help us win the title

His name is mentioned as being linked to us in today’s record.

I like the look of him. He seems to have a bit of quality in his finishing and I like that he has a current track record of goals.

David Strelec was the subject of a £7.5m offer from the Hoops in January - with the Slovakian champions holding out for £9million.

Strelec wrapped up the campaign with a league title and 25 goals to his name and hasn't been shy in opening the door to a Celtic switch.

Now the 24-year-old's personal sports development expert Peter Krištofovič lifted the lid on the reaction from Stelec to his failed Slovan exit in January - with Middlesborough also showing an interest at time - as he insists it will only have improved him as a player.

He told Dennik Sport : "If someone has a goal to become the best in the world, they adapt everything to that. Then they can overcome obstacles more easily because they keep going their own way.

They understand that during an imaginary climb to Mount Everest, a storm may come and they may have to descend to a lower camp. He still has only the top ahead of him.

I think this is the key to David's phenomenal success. If he can maintain the right mental attitude even in the moments that seem to hinder his path, he can achieve insanely great things.

Because the path to them is not only through talent, it must be combined with discipline and concentration.

"I have my fingers crossed for David and that the failed transfer will give him the right heart. He has what it takes. He is our best striker and he is not even at full strength."

Was previously unconvinced but having watched more of him I think his style of play would suit us big time.

I think this feels like the player or his club side trying to push a sale on us now. We obviously wanted him in January but I think we may view Maeda as the new ST forward now and if Osmand and Yamada are signed I don’t see us signing someone to jump ahead of Idah and compete with Maeda.

However, I agree with @Mr Shelby in that having originally been unimpressed he does have a lot of attributes to be a striker in a Rodgers system where he is good at coming off and linking the play for the wingers to come in and take up the centre forward position, whilst still carrying a goal threat himself.

In addition, he seems to really put a shift in and having him and Maeda playing wide would hound teams.

This guy is absolutely desperate for the move, he and his agent/dad think Slovan blew it in Jan and has been selling himself to anyone and everyone since.

I wonder if the lad has the confidence he can repeat last season's (one off?) form.
Or maybe he's just super keen to come to the hoops, which is a great start.

From the little I've seen, I think we can and should do much better.

Easily the best striker we've been linked with since Kyogo left. That being said, Idah is doing well, and I cannot see Strelec coming in to be 3. choice, nor Idah staying as a 3. choice.

For a second-choice striker, yes. 20 goals is good. He has things to work on, but I expect Rodgers will want to keep him.

He was supposed to take the step up after Kyogo left but has been displaced by our winger...

I fail to believe we spent £9m on the idea that he would be second choice and that's it.

Reads like lazy journalism just linking us to a player from last window, but if we were still in for him on top of Osmand and Yamada (if that really is a goer), you'd think it means we know there's a big offer coming for Maeda and he's looking to move (I'd hope not), or Rodgers has seen enough of Idah now and we cut our losses with him (wouldn't bat an eyelid).
