Another mismanaged window by our board and recruitment team with lack of planning, strategy and foresight.

Jota could turn out to be a great signing (again) but it doesnt quite absolve or redeem our failure to capitalise from a position of strength.

Its a recurring issue under the senior management and it has to change as it constantly undermines the ambition of the manager and the hopes of the fans.

I cant think of many other multi million pound organisations thats run with such carelessness.

First of all, Brendan is clearly at odds with the board over the lack of signings. So pretty much everyone is on Brendan's side here.

Secondly, considering injuries and suspensions is not being negative. It's called being realistic. No player realistically plays every minute of every game. Which is why it's important to have depth so your starting XI isn't massively weakened by missing a player or two. That simply isn't the case for us now. An injury to Idah or Maeda and we're massively weaker.

To be fair, there’s probably a few teams in England with supporters saying similar. Arsenal have got no fit strikers at this moment in time and still didn’t bring one in despite being in a title race and competing on multiple fronts. Man Utd are an absolute shambles and didn’t sign anyone either. There were a few clubs down South who didn’t sign anyone in January, and the majority of players who moved did so on loan. It was an extremely quiet window in general.

January is never the time to really be trying to sign players that are regularly playing at their current clubs, because a) those clubs don't want to sell, and b) if a club really wants them it will be at a premium. Hence why in January, its more about the fringe players or guys currently plying their trade outside of the major European leagues.

Man Utd are severely restricted with PSR. Arsenal couldn’t afford Watkins. Most clubs in England are suffering with PSR issues, which is why they struggled to sign players.

    We don’t have that problem.

Arsenal could afford Watkins. Just like we could afford Kvistgaarden. However, we didn’t value Kvistgaarden like Brondby did, and I agree with that. Villa couldn’t sell Watkins after letting Duran go however. Fans are annoyed for us not having a Plan B. Are Arsenal in the same boat? You’d have to say yes as they are desperate for a striker so surely they must have had more in their list than Watkins. That’s the January transfers below. Must be the quietest it’s been for a very long time.

we’ve needed a CDM for years, not sure if we will get one.

Rogers even said about Kyogo wanting to leave since the summer and we couldn’t get a replacement in over the window.

Summer we will have to play qualifying games to get into the champions league and we will get the roll out of excuses once again, it’s hard doing business, people are on holiday, we are not in the champions league yet. Plenty of time left in the window.

I love the enthusiasm but the board has time and time again failed managers getting in players that are needed. It’s been proven time and time again.

I honestly can’t see this summer being any different.

    What's done is done now.

We should still be working now though to have guys targeted and ready to come in early in summer. Will we? No chance.

If we are still running about last week of the window signing players then I dunno what to say. Said in the Rodgers thread but the guys on the 20MT podcast summed up my personal feelings well today.

Transfers cause a domino effect if theirs no movement it prevents movement elsewhere no making excuses but if we are to spend I’d rather it was on someone who will make an impact if we need to wait till summer then so be it

We are looking at the wrong market in January. Instead of players playing regularly, we should hunt unhappy benchwarmers. Also, East Asian leagues have their big break in January. It's easy to get players from there in that transfer window.

I know people are disappointed in the window but to me there's two aspect. Execution and strategy.

Execution has clearly been poor. Rodgers, Nicholson, Lawwell - I daresay they would all admit that. Clearly the idea was to bring in Jota, Tierney and a striker and clearly it didn't work out. There will be reasons for that, but criticism is absolutely valid and they need to try and do better.

I'm more positive though because I feel the strategy is finally right.

I know it looks like I'm trying to defend the board on here, but I'm not. It's simply that I'm concerned too much criticism of execution will lead to a strategy change which I don't want.

Nicholson could've took the easy route and signed a £5m striker our manager doesn't want - that some team is desperate to get rid of. Same with a winger. A £3m 'prospect' punt that would have a high chance of being next season's Yang. Shved, anyone?

Instead we're trying to execute a much more difficult strategy. It's not quite worked out in this window but we have enough to be successful this season, and the pieces are moving into place for the summer window.

I'm just asking people to recognise there has been a strategic shift by Nicholson as he moves away from how Lawwell ran things. You cannot get that 100% right overnight but it's clear as day he's trying to do it differently. If we criticise too much, they won't continue with it and you can forget your Engels, Jota and Tierney and welcome in Yangs, Holm and Klimala.
