I thought his press conference was brilliant.
Slipped in a few wee underhand digs at the board, whilst remaining positive.
His comment about not liking the squad being so tight in numbers, and leaving the window weaker, said everything he needed to say..

Bottom line for me is Rodgers, Nicholson and McKay all want the same thing, and are working in tandem to try and secure it. All 3 will be as disappointed as the rest of us, even more so since they're the ones who take the flak.

Rodgers knows fine well the limitations the club work under so as disappointed as he is, he'll no be throwing the toys out. He also knows that some windows we'll smash it and some we'll fall short. Hey ho, we carry on regardless.

You only to need to look at the huns to see what real boardroom incompetence looks like. Years of disastrous signing policies, club propped up by loans based on the kindness of board members, hardly any sellable assets, unprofitable player trading etc etc

I'm sceptical as to whether they're all singing from the same hymn sheet if im honest. I think history has told us that's maybe not always the case and Rodgers comments about "as a collective it wasn't ideal" in reference to how the window ended adds a bit more fuel to that. He's obviously the consumate professional so won't pin it on anyway in particular. That doesn't happen in big businesses, certainly not publicly.

But you could speculate either way.

The summer window will be yet again another tester as we will probably lose a couple more players from the first team.

True but that isn't any kind of benchmark. For years after rangers were liquidated the celtic board preached that they were there to ensure celtic would not follow the same path. It's a nonsense. Noone who runs a business like Celtic is given the objective of not being liquidated. It's an absolute given and rangers are the extreme exception to the rule.

Problem we have is that the board peg their spending and their ambition to Rangers plus a bit better. So as long as rangers are basket cases, we will always be one notch above them. We never strengthen from a postion of strength to ensure we go 2 or 3 levels above them.

Personally, the window exceeded my expectations and I was a bit surprised at the reaction; but if the manager says it wasnt good enough, it wasn't good enough.

So I was wrong. I still don't really understand why it wasn't good enough, though.

He wanted a striker, didn’t get one. Solo issue. Fair enough.

I have been in your position many times on here.
I was on here this time last year backing Brendan when many wanted him out. I have criticised people on here for not keeping the faith and only showing 'support' when we're winning. Folk have slated me for it.

But even I am a bit * off with this one....

The main point for me is how the board have actually weakened our team on the run up to the biggest games of our season.
If you qualify for the next round of the Champions League.....you just cannot sell your top striker without replacing him.

If Idah picks up an injury or for any reason cannot play against Bayern and with maeda suspended....
Well Lawell is going to get annihilated in the press and our fans will be getting the * ripped out of them...it's as simple as that. It's embarrassing. I can't defend that. It's utter stupidity and lack of respect for the Celtic supporters

Not ranting and raving, just justifiably angry that yet another transfer window is a let down. If those guys working at the club know "how things work: then the failure to have a replacement for Kyogo lined up weeks ago was down to them. The same applies to the failure to sign a decent LB since KT left which was years ago. So, big congrats to the board for our healthy bank balance but they are failing to take our club to the next level in football terms. Do you honestly think Rodgers was happy in his interview?

If there's any way Rodgers differs from the suits, I'd wager it's he's far more willing to pay whatever to get any given player. Not surprising given he's used to operating in England with all the riches that comes with that. It's a mindset I think he'll probably always have.

Up here though, if you start being all too willing to throw caution to the wind it could end up spiralling very quickly. You may say we have enough capital to absorb any failures for a while, bit we're in that position BECAUSE of how we do business.

I'm more than happy to carry on as we have done, as it will put us in an even better position going forward, and that limit we set ourselves will gradually creep up as the likely risk will keep going down.

We did that with Idah at Rodgers' insistence and then the very next window, Brondby try it on. I wonder if that might not be a coincidence

I think even the most unreasonable supporters recognise we can't just pay anything for a player nowadays though to be fair.

My concern is that aye, great to be in this position but more of it needs to be reinvested and we need to be a bit more risk averse at times. It doesn't help having a lawyer by trade as your CEO on that front I suppose.

My concern is also that if we don't invest a bit more of it in order to allow progression on the field, then our ability to qualify for the UCL and get that 50m every single season will dwindle as we lose players and inevitably hoard money to make up for losing out on UCL. Like we used to.

Hopefully that doesn't materialise but it's my fear. Speculating to accumulate a bit more often would be worth it and hopefully the impact Engels, Trusty and Idah (more to come from him) have had in Europe this season show that. Jota at £8m we already know that's a bargain.

Excellent point. Also has to be said, a lot of the ones now in uproar about this window, we're in uproar then about paying the money for Idah.

    Make it make sense :giggle1:

I moaned like crazy about that window. In hindsight was totally wrong about that. It was a very good January window.

To be fair, though, and before it starts to look like I love the board or something, I also moaned like crazy about the summer window before that and in hindsight, I didn't moan nearly enough. We're still suffering the effects of that 18 months later.

Thing is, we've already been increasing the figures we're willing to part with. We've spent plenty in the last few years.

That increase has seen us get through the league stage of the CL with one of our best showings ever. So complaining that we don't speculate doesn't really stand up.

All that said, we are STILL reluctant to have our scants pulled down, and quite rightly. I guarantee you we'll spend another big number in the summer, improve the squad/team and post yet another profit in the next set of accounts after that.

That is how it should be done, and am delighted we're savvy enough to keep the balance between spending dough and making a profit.

We did it last summer. But it's the only time I can recall other than sanctioning £9m for Edouard where we have. That's despite often still having money from qualifying in the past.

Eventually the lack of investment in good players and needless gambles came back to bite us in qualifiers or in European performance in general.

Doing it once isn't enough is what I'm getting at. We need to continually aim to do it and although it won't be every window, this summer we definitely need to see another similar level of investment.

We also have a Champions League Qualifier next season, this would have been the time to prepare the squad properly for that.. bed in a ST and an upgrade on Yang winger..

We could lose Kuhn, maybe a couple of others.. a lot of clubs wouldn't punt stars before that Qualifier, with us.. I'm not so sure..

    This is it..

We need consistently good windows, not 1/2 or 1/3
