Some amount of absolute bedwetting going on here....

Are we "weaker"? Only in the striker department. Technically.

We've sold Kyogo and not replaced him - should we be happy about that? No.

Are we THAT much weaker? Naw. Idah now becomes the main man (what did people expect when we signed him for £9m? That he was a £9m back up striker?) Maeda covers the secondary striker role and Kenny covers the 3rd.

You could also say that we're actually stronger in the 3rd choice striker role - who was it before Kenny was recalled? Nobody.

We've replaced Palma - who wasnt even an impact sub with Jota.

Replaced Valle with Schlupp who can play in multiple positions.

It's absolute fine, in fact I'll go as far to say it's still a * quality squad and I'm happy with it - of course absolutely it could have and should have been better, but it's not so what's the point in greetin about it.

Yer man Kvistgaarden and whoever would have done * all against Bayern anyway, same with Kyogo. So * it, cannot wait to see Jota tearing it up, Idah banging in goal after goal and Maeda terrorising wherever he plays.

And what happens if Idah gets injured this weekend? Maeda is banned for Bayern do we play Kenny or Cummings who between them don't have 90mins of our first team action, joke of a hoarding board but what makes it worse is it's same old, same old yet again, I really wouldn't have bought Bayern tickets had I known Kyogo wouldn't be replaced

When Kyogo was here, Maeda was our 3rd striker option.. so we're definitely weaker no doubt..

I hope Idah relishes it, he looked like everything we need v Motherwell on Sun much like the Killie game last season when we clinched the league.. if he picks up an injury or drops form.. then we have an untried Kenny or Maeda who's played there about 3 times under Rodgers..

Then we have players like Yang still kicking around..

Just feel let down - again same old board - Lawwell really is like a bad fart just won’t go away - and don’t understand mentality of those on here who are saying all ok - “too steep” etc - are you interested in driving up share prices - I live a two minute drive from Dermot Desmond - he has enough money. Any “proven” striker will cost a lot more than what Brondby were asking- yes he may have done * all against Bayern but neither will rest of team - we have our limits but better moving in right direction , trying to raise bar- looking at qualifying in August- we will have same issue in summer window.
We have one fecking striker who can’t last a match - hamstring away from rest of season without a recognised striker bar a kid who doesn’t to play for us and is away to West Ham or wherever!

Aye but the difference is who did we have at wing to replace Maeda if he was injured - Yang? Palma?

We've absolutely strengthened there, plus having Schlupp who can cover wide.

Our team and players arent completely one-dimensional....

I don't think we are weaker, but definitely not stronger. Domestically we'll be fine, and Europe is probably one more good night out for us. Some strange players still hanging around that never contribute, but pick up sizeable wages. Bain and Nawrocki are the most obvious ones.

    This.

We have stayed still, not improved. And have a lot of work to do on the summer but no doubt be fed the same * again.

Jota coming in is fantastic but we shouldn't have to Move Maeda into the middle to accommodate losing Kyogo. Maeda has been great out wide this season.

The while point of signing Jota as well has to be that you provide quality depth. If him, Maeda and Kuhn all start you're back to Yang and Forrest as your back up out wide. Schlupp can play there but it's a stretch.

Concerned the club didn't give Rodgers what he appears to have wanted, concerned that we appear to have a complete disconnection at scouting level. Schmeichel and schlupp were rodgers contacts and Tierney and Jota are ex players. That said maybe the club need to go a step back to go two forward at this time. Idah needs consistent game time at striker, now is his chance to show Rodgers, the club, the fans if he has it to be the main man for us. Schlupp presents an opportunity to acquire a very valuable player in the summer. Don't think any player could have came in and realistically influenced events v Bayern, we should have enough in the tank to see the league out so we are where we are.

I think we've just swapped out apples for oranges... Neither better, or worse. Just different!

Valle was recalled by Barca and loaned out in accordance with THEIR plans for THEIR player. Not too bothered about that, but we didn't adequately replace him either, in my opinion, so we're still vulnerable there.

Sorry to see kyogo go, but he WANTED the move, and he'd been off his game because of that, so again I've no complaints.

Lots of bulk then moved on, and that was good.

I've no issues with Jota (obviously!) and Tierney on the pre-contract was clearly because Arsenal also decided what they wanted with their player - I'd have been furious if we'd paid them about £3M for a 6 months loan!

As for in Europe, I'm sorry to be a realist here but we're not likely getting past Bayern anyway - I'd be * ecstatic, but it's a real Royal Flush, over 2 legs, for us to progress. League and Scottish Cup are both well achievable with what we have, so we're ok there...

So, back to the original conclusion, we've essentially stood still on this... We're going to need to keep reacting again in the summer and we're gambling on little disruption and good fortune for our cl qualification, and being able to get in and keep the quality players needed... It's just not good enough for the club to keep doing this! In any other field the management would be pilloried for this, even with sizable profits. I can't fathom why we keep doing this same dance, year after year...

Edit: actually, I'd be kinda pleased to see the young striker Kenny play some time too! Be nice to see a positive outcome for a youth player who did the development and loan route, get an actual chance!

I think everyone will agree that we haven't been firing on all cylinders since the Leipzig game and shifting three goals against the huns twice and Dundee should have made the board realise that we needed to add to the tank. As I said in an earlier post, all it takes is an injury to a couple of our key players or another couple of poor performances where we drop points and the season could go *'s up.

Nail on the head.. these run of games to end of the year will provide an opportunity to the likes of trusty Bernardo idah to see where they are at. Maybe even a bolter of a player in Murray or something. The reason Rodgers is there is to find an answer from within sometimes. He wanted idah, the club spent nearly 10 mill on him so now Rodgers has to do the business with him. Seems fair enough.

That's why I suggest going a step back now for bigger rewards in the summer. Give trusty, Engels, Bernardo, idah time with consistent game time to see can they be Celtic players over the next around 20 games.. then address where we need to in the summer..Rodgers is an excellent coach and developer of players. Let him go to what he's good at.

Serious revisionism over valle too. Very possibly will go on and have a good career but not once did I look at him and think he gave Taylor anything to worry about. He asked to leave if his game time was gonna stay the same..

If Maeda and Idah both start we now have Kenny or Cummings to bring on at striker to change the game. If Maeda plays in the middle and Jota out left we have Yang to come off the bench. That's the same *.

They very well might take their chance. But thats weaker/as you were. Certainly in those areas.

We can't say bringing in Jota and losing Kyogo is a like for like. Perhaps for quality of player but not positionally and it has led to a lack of quality still out wide If we are intending to play Maeda through the middle.

The point for me is we haven't really solved any of the issues in overall squad depth. We have firmly kicked the can down the road. For me it was an underwhelming window which could bite us on the * this season still and lead to folk moaning about form/consistency. No doubt Rodgers will be blamed.

What happens if Schmeichel gets injured this week? We have to play Sinisalo/Bain. Should we have signed a goalkeeper as well? Where does that argument end?

Idah, if he stays fit, needs an uninterrupted opportunity to be as he called it himself at the weekend "the main man". In fairness since kyogo has gone he's stood up so far. What would have been worse for me is if we panicked and had brought in an ings or something to take idahs minutes

Ffs.. a more accurate analogy would be punted Schmeichel and are going with Sinisalo, Bain and Oluwyemi..
