Callum McGregor made his debut 11 years ago. Tierney was 10 years ago. Ralston was 9 years ago (if you want to include him). Even Welsh was 5 years ago.

The fact Welsh was 20 before he made his debut for us is mad!
And he's one of the most recent "success" examples we can give to the youth.

Aye, stick around at Celtic and we may give you a game when you're 20, by the time you're 25 you'll have a total of about 42 games for the club and we will eventually ship you out on loan.

Or, as most players figured out, just leave when you're 18 and a half decent club comes calling.

It's not the money, it's the experience and opportunities.

Doak, better at Liverpool to get the loan to Middlesbrough. If he stayed here and we tried to loan him out, he'd be playing for * Arbroath or Greenock Morton.

The domestic game in Scotland is truly *.

Unless your part of a youth system of a SPL team who forever just bounce around mid table and never really do anything, you're unlikely to get any real game time.

In the case of Celtic it's even worse, because clearly we are doing something right in finding talent because some of the clubs coming in of recent years have been crazy. Which really leaves even the most diehard Celtic lad struggling to turn down the chance.

As they will likely get far more in wages and as was pointed out in previous post, is going from * about in the lowland leagues which is a joke, getting loaned out to Scottish League two sides - to going to a well renowned youth system and likely getting better weekly competition in the case of EPL 2 or getting loaned to English League one/two sides which all in all is a much higher level than lowlands.

    Or.

They getting poached to go mainland Europe.

Because whatever it is, unless suddenly the academy churns out a Yamal level talent that we had no choice but play them, then you aren't getting game time for us because of the unbalanced demand of success we have

Aw good. 90 mins a year is justified.

I never said they get a chance here. But if they think they are making it at West Ham they are being sold a false promise. Destined for obscurity like 99% of prospects from that league.

Would love to see us buy a feeder club. Maybe a team like Admira Wacker or a Portuguese 2nd division club so our youngsters could go up against the likes of Benfica B and Porto B.

We should be giving a core of the youths the league cup, in my opinion... But too focused on locking in trebles (which we all love, of course!).

At a time when our players are massively overloaded with league, Europe and this cup it would be far more beneficial to put about 15 youth players in that squad, and play about 6-7 of them at all times in EVERY leg of the tournament, so they get matches against progressive competition, opponents get the attraction of playing Celtic and anyone/everyone gets to benefit from youth development - club, players, Scotland(?)...

The dissolution of our youth/reserve leagues has absolutely CRIPPLED youth development at the higher levels. Forward thinking people in charge would absorb the costs to keep the game healthy, but our corrupt shower are only interested in junkets, handouts and preserving the rotting husk of sevco...

Let's also not forget that Tierney had his breakout season when Rangers weren't even in the league. So it's not like even then we were being super brave by giving him a chance early on.

I wonder how it would go if a 17 year old Tierney was just emerging now...

West Ham have made a bid in the region £500,000 to sign Celtic striker Daniel Cummings in this window.

It’s understood the 18-year-old has now agreed a pre-contract with the Premier League club.

West Ham are now looking to do a deal with Celtic before tomorrow’s deadline.

Cummings has been a prolific scorer for the Celtic B team this season and he made his senior debut against Aston Villa in the Champions League on Wednesday

Vata was promised third choice striker. Is that really game time? Anyway actions speak louder than words and Celtic's actions that season was signing 3 wingers in the summer and 1 in winter when only 2 left.

Well they definitely offer more chances and will arrange a loan for him either to league 1 or championship. They also have PL2 which offers better experience than the Scottish championship.

How long has it been since we had a truly prolific youth striker? I actually can't even remember the last player to bang in a similar amount of goals Cummings has in such a short space of time. Tony Watt, maybe?

This is the first time in ages that we could have got excited about a homemade goalscorer. And now he's gone after 1 appearance.

    Something needs to change.

    It's not even that.

3 or 4 goals up at home at half time against league opponents and we don't bring on a youngster or two.

    It's baffling.

It’s not baffling at all we have such fickle fans who demand we win every game and how ruthless we can be to any player who does anything wrong it’s hard to bring in younger players when you’re expected to win every game unless it’s the last 15 or 20 minutes. There is a process to developing them and from all the ones who left recently other than doak most disappear into the unknown. My cousin knows a lot of the youth lads as he came though the academy with them he tells me a lot of how it works and pathways they have in place

West Ham must be very keen on him if they are willing to give half a mil to get him a few months early.

Absolute no brainer for the young lad. Good luck to him.

More accurately the Scottish league's youth set up is a shambles, Celtic are hampered by this set up. We have a link up with Admira in Austria and maybe we need more of this as Scotland will continue to shoot itself in the foot
