Ollie Scarles is a 19 year old academy player who started for West ham last week in the FA cup against Villa. His first start for the club was when he was 17 in the UEFA Conference league.

West Ham who could afford to buy any celtic player they chose are starting a 17 year old in Europe and 19 year olds in FA cup against a team like Villa. Celtic play Falkirk in the league cup and not a single minute is given to academy youth.

Leaving celtic is a no brainer for academy prospects

 

West Ham are in talks to sign Celtic striker Daniel Cummings.

The Hammers are looking to secure the 18-year-old on a pre-contract agreement for a move in the summer.

Sky Sports News revealed last week that Cummings had been in talks with Portsmouth, but West Ham look to be leading the race now.

The Scotland U19 international made his Celtic debut on Wednesday in the Champions League against Aston Villa.

The infrastructure, pay, grounds keeping, building works, staffing etc over the years will be definitely millions.

 

You're right. It's only gotten worse over the years, we don't seem to seriously consider keeping any prospect that comes through it. We have that attitude towards Scottish players in general, we've let a lot of talents slip through our grasp. It's bad for the club in my view, we need quality homegrown players to maintain our identity.

 

Why we letting their contracts run down to the point they get snapped up by foreign clubs could we not have extended Cummings deal mid season or start of season ?

 

IMHO Celtic need to really do all we can to pressure the SFL to allow us play a B team in the actually league structure with the prevision that the B team can never play above the second tier level. This is clearly IMHO the key answer both short and long term to us being able to actually start developing players for our first team through our own club again. The current state of affairs is a farce at this point.
As an example just this week a young teenage Irish U17 international Grady McDonnell signed for Club Brugge one of our recent champions league opponents for 350,000e and is immediately placed with their B team who play in the second tier in Belgium.

 

If reports are accurate that we haven't even offered him a contract yet, why on earth wouldn't he sign a deal with West Ham? It's a no brainer.

 

An academy that rarely produces real talent and on the rare occasion that it does, that talented player is snapped up before he even makes the team these days.

Time to rethink this TBH. Is it worth the money?

Cummings now looks to follow his past south. The Celtic youngster made his Hoops debut during the week when he came off the bench in the Champions League clash at Aston Villa
It looks likely to see another one of their top talents to England. Watford snapped up Rocco Vata last summer and Aidan Borland to Aston Villa last year

"The point I missed". No I didn't, I said we shouldn't blame teenagers for making big life changing decisions. You're caling them "stupid". Actually, leaving at 18 is the wisest choice they could make. Get out before it's too late. Who knows how much damage we are doing to our youngsters' development.

Stephen Welsh was patient, not greedy and intelligent, according to you. That is what our youth will be looking at. Not the one success we had a decade ago in Tierney.

 

Same would happen staying here were there's no future for him.. as history has proved this with many players

 

Not true doak was getting the game time then went elsewhere like wise kelly and vata especially vata who was promised game time agents are a big problem
