Grand old team to play for
Celtic are considering a move for Slovan Bratislava’s £8 million-rated frontman David Strelec.

The Hoops have the Slovakian international, who played against them in their 5-1 Champions League win back in November, high on their January wanted list, Record Sport understands. Brendan Rodgers is looking to bring in a new frontman before the close of the window on Monday night and Strelec is one of the names that is on their radar, along with Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden.

Celtic are exploring a number of options as they look to bring in a replacement for Kyogo, who joined Rennes earlier this month. Middlesbrough have already had a bid turned down for Strelec and Slovan have made it clear they will only sell their prize asset if the price is right. The 23-year-old has seven goals in 28 games for Slovakia. and netted 15 goals for Slovan Bratislava this season, including five in the Champions League and qualifiers.

His group goals came against Dinamo Zagreb and Atletico Madrid. Strelec has previously had spells in Italy with Spezia and Reggina on-loan before he returned for a second spell at Slovan Bratislava.

Brondby striker Kvistgaarden is another option but there remains a gulf in Celtic and the Danish team’s valuation, which is starting at £10 million plus add-ons. Meanwhile, Celtic have been linked with a move for Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill. He is out-of-contract at Turf Moor in the summer and so far has failed to agree an extension.

I guess it's considered a main-line rumor now. Yes to Strelec, moreso than Kvistgaarden. He impressed for Slovakia at the last EURO, and looked overall a mature player. I thought he was 28-29.

On a raw numbers perspective, rather kvistgaarden.

Don't know anything about this lad to say good or bad though.

But he's a year older than kvistgaarden and in current season kvistgaarden is scoring more often than him and over the course of their careers kvistgaarden has a better goal and assist ratio.

This reeks of getting ajeti instead of Toney.

I see it the same way. Really underwhelming. He failed in Serie B not long ago, looks slow and cumbersome.

Had a quick skim of his highlights there. He looks like a good player but not so much the raw running power that I think our team should be full of.

That’s why I’ve always wanted Kvistgaarden.

    He does look decent..

Seems to be on an upward trajectory. Scoring goals in the champions league and for Slovakia recently..

Banging them in for his side in all comps. Even freekicks from old videos..

Still want Kvistgaarden much more. As you say, his running power seems much more suited to us alone..

He's a very good player from what I've seen. I would prefer Kvistgaarden but wouldn't be unhappy if Strelec came in.

He’s proven at a higher level than Kvistgaarden. So why the hate for him he sounds like just a good option

He just feels boring. He feels like a Scepovic or Ajeti

He probably isn't, he's probably a good player, I'm just talking initial feelings.

kvistgaarden has neither of those yet people want us to * 12 million on him. Not saying this guy is the answer but seems like a decent option based on the levels hes played

I don't see the negativity around Strelec, he has a good record, aye he didn't do well in Italy but he's doing well now, does well internationally and did well in a poor team in the CL (and qualifying)

He went to Italy young, that can be a hard move shifting cultures etc young, we've seen that plenty. Back home bit more development and he's looking sharp and producing numbers.

That's probably because he plays in a much better league, that isn't a one horse race...and he isn't playing for the best side or probably even second best side. Same for Slovakia, Denmark have better strikers than Slovakia, comfortably..

Know nothing about this guy but if Rodgers wants him go for it. Big Idah will end up undroppable anyway lol.

Not a fan of this at all - looks awfully slow and not particularly excellent at anything.

Can we no just buy a big strong as an ox black guy who can put his laces through a baw, naw?

I thought he looked alright when I’ve seen him.

I’d wager that most haven’t watched much of either him or Kvistgaarden, yet the latter is generating a lot more positivity. It’s interesting.
