Got done a few times tonight.
We need to get a right side CH in that can cover for CCV but that wont happen till we offload Larger and Rockie.
I would keep Scales as 4th choice CH and emergency LB.

Hes shown in a few games against decent opposition that if his role is to do basic defending hes not too bad. I think he defends the box quite well.

When he tries to play like VVD its murder to watch

Just shows how tricky it is to scout CBs that he's got so many minutes here. They are honestly ten a penny , most , apart from the genuine elite are just all a similar , inconsistent level. In our price range it is just a punt. CCV we unearthed a real solid one but they're like hens teeth .

I just have no idea why on earth he thought it was okay to be pressing that far up the pitch.

Can only imagine he's had a rush of blood to the head and thought he could force an unexpected turnover. But for me there's just no reason to risk that. Get yourself back into a good defensive position and let the midfield do the pressing. Up against a top EPL team for * sake, not Broxburn Athletic.

No harm to him, I like having him in the squad, but he’s completely out of his depth at that level.

Would look to get a CB in and make him fourth choice CB. Hard for Murray young lad he can learn from it Scales should know better. I get he’s Irish but he’s not at that level needed if either CCV or Trusty are out

the latter but that’s down to Celtic to get another CB in who is decent enough to come in and compete with trusty and CCV. Then have a young lad as 4th choice learning from the other 3

Easier said than done trying to find someone of that ilk. Scales for all his faults is a reliable back up. Not good enough for elite level but as 3rd choice centre half at Celtic surely that is to be expected?

Why was he defending halfway in the oppositions half? :giggle1:

It's a decent thought but unrealistic with Scales, Nawrocki, Lagerbielke and Welsh still on the books

we should be building a squad where the drop off isn’t so vast between starters and players coming in can lead to better rotation of players and get more consistency at that level

Clearly asked to man mark the guy that scored a hat trick at half time. Doesn’t excuse his attempt at defending but does explain his positioning.

can still man mark him from the back pick him up when he comes into your area no need to be that far up the park man marking him. Midfield is there then he’s in position to mark or man mark from half way

If Celtic want a decent centre half then start scouting Italy..they always produce good defenders. Someone like Enrico annoni .

Agreed. Should be third (and eventually fourth) choice for the league and cup, but that’s all. Never up to it at this level. An absolute bombscare in possession.

He'd obviously been asked to do the man marking. Johnston was doing it in the first half and got done a couple times.

Regardless though if you're that far up and about to be turned just take the booking.

We really aren't smart enough in situations like that. We seem to concede sucker punch goals like that a lot.

He's 4th choice for us. Has to be. I worry that Rodgers doesn't agree but we really need to try and do better.

Why are we always playing a guy who just cant cope against better teams. One great game every now and then and all is forgotten till he has another calamity then its trust time again. We have other defender in the squad who never get anywhere.
