Mixed bag tonight. Some excellent attacking play but a lot of the usual shambolic defending at that level.
Got to be positive with the campaign overall though- getting into the play offs is a good achievement for us.

 

All in all a decent game, especially the comeback after the two fast goals. Idah stood up when we needed him, great game big man!

But this match also showed us the spaces where we need to improve. DM and another CB. Need 3 quality ones to play at this level.

The goals were really well played out too!

 

Shot ourselves in the foot that second half. We were having our best spell in the game and lost what was a terrible goal for their third. They should have scored a good few more before they got the fourth.

The third goal sold the game for me.

I also thought that ref tonight was a disgrace, so biased for the home team, they were allowed to use their physicality but if we gave it back, freekick after freekick. Big Trusty’s tackle for the penalty is a quality challenge gets infront of the player takes the ball, comes away with the ball. If that is a penalty they may as well stop football or at least tackling.

 

I’d say on balance our group was favourable so getting Bayern or Real Madrid is evening it up a bit. Our leaky defence will be giving me nightmares until then.

Trusty went toe to toe with one of the better strikers in Europe and handled him well when one on one. Penalty was a dive.

Great comeback but second-half was poor enough. Villa deserved it overall, despite not being great. A couple of higher quality players in our team would make a huge difference against the likes of Villa tbf - hopefully the board can see that and act on it because that bench tonight was woeful.

 

We had a good 20m spell in 1st half. But for the rest of the game Villa mostly dominated and created chances galore. We could have conceded 7 or 8. CCV and Maeda would help for sure, but think its wishful thinking saying they are the difference between losing and getting a result here. Unless we change our approach to these fixtures we are setting up for a hiding more often than not.

Dunno why people are complaining about it being Real or Bayern......All the teams in that section are great in my opinion...So it doesn't really matter.

We just qualified from a newly setup tournament that everyone thought we would be absolute * in.

Regardless of it being Real or Bayern we would be playing teams like this in the next rounds anyways.


2 absolute stunning games coming up.....And the money we have made so far has been excellent.

The 3rd goal just shows how much we need a ball winning midfielder. Mcgregor should be pressing the man trying to win the ball, instead Scales comes out leaving us * at the back
