Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Kieran Tierney will move to Celtic from Arsenal this summer at the latest - and that fellow left-back Alex Valle's loan from Barcelona is being cut short.

Tierney is out of contract with the Premier League club this summer and Celtic are hoping an agreement can be reached to bring the 27-year-old Scotland defender to the Scottish champions during January.

There had been speculation about Valle's future should Tierney return to Celtic, with Italian club Como reportedly interested in taking the 20-year-old on loan for the rest of the season.

Manager Rodgers says Valle will not play for Celtic again and also confirmed that the Scottish champions are hoping to sign a replacement for striker Kyogo Furuhashi, who was sold to Rennes on Monday.

If we don't get Tierney this month, that will be Scales at left back then.

Feels a bit odd to allow Valle move without Tierney immediately replacing him. Even more so with Taylor likely leaving at the end of the season and the opportunity to rotate Valle until season end.

Hopefully it means Tierney joins us this week.

A proper striker to replace kyogo and I think this could be an all time great January window.

Don’t worry, Tierney will be in by the end of the week.

Absolute worst case, we can bring young Anderson back from his loan too and see what he’s made of.

Ya, perhaps it is a bit, but I wouldn’t like to see him there against anyone decent, I’ll put it that way.

I'm happy that Jota has returned but don't expect too much from him this season, likewise KT coming back although let's see how he's doing with injuries as we've only Taylor at LB otherwise.
I'm really * at losing Kyogo with no direct replacement looking likely this window, *, we didn't need the money so we should have kept our best striker until the summer window, shambolic losing Kyogos goals with only Idah and probably Maeda being our main goal threat, accountants running our transfers still

Tierney, Jota, Kvistgaarden, Orjasaeter, Slotslager - would be a 10/10 window.

Can I be even more greedy? Another quality midfielder and we're talking 12/10.

For me we really need Tierney in now.

Still a fair amount of games to play and if we are somehow left playing scales at LB and don't sign another CB we have a youth coming off the bench with little experience. CCV prone to an injury as well.

Brendan Rodgers has admitted that Celtic hope to wrap up a deal to sign Kieran Tierney from Arsenal before the window shuts.

The Parkhead club have agreed the terms of a pre-contract agreement, kicking in this summer.

Confirming that left-back Alex Valle has cut short his loan deal from Barcelona to sign for Serie A side Como, Rodgers wants to seal Tierney’s return on loan before a permanent deal kicks in

Arsenal are prepared to sell Oleksandr Zinchenko to Atletico Madrid and, if the Ukrainian leaves for big money, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta would prefer to hold on to the 27-year-old as cover.

However, speaking ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League clash with Aston Villa in Birmingham, Rodgers expressed hope that an opportunity for a quicker reunion with Tierney might open up in the final days of the winter transfer window.

‘Ideally, it would,’ said the Celtic manager. ‘But at this moment he’s still an Arsenal player. So I think everyone would agree that (the move) will definitely take place in the summer. If we can do it beforehand, then great

I don’t know. I think that we’d prepared that for the summer. And I don’t want to speak too much on it, with the greatest respect, because he’s not a Celtic player here now with us.

‘But if we were able to do it, of course we would like to do that. But that’s out of our control at this moment in time.’

Rodgers confirmed that on-loan left back Valle had played his last game for Celtic. The Barcelona player is heading for Como on loan until the end of the season.

‘Alex won’t play again, sadly. He’s in Barcelona now at the moment,’ he said.

And he will probably then move on to another team.

‘So, again, he’s another young player that’s contributed really well for us.

‘He made nearly 20 appearances for us. He played in some very important games.

‘He made his Champions League debut. Especially in Atalanta, he was fantastic. He played in really important games. So, we’re disappointed that he’s left. But we have to move on.

Celtic have already completed some business this week, selling Kyogo Furuhashi to Rennes for £10million - while bringing Portuguese winger Jota back from the French club for £7.6m.

Kyogo’s departure, allied to Daizen Maeda’s suspension, leaves Rodgers short of attacking options at Villa Park.

Currently looking at Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden, he denied knowledge of a report claiming Celtic had tendered a bid for Norwegian winger Sondre Orjasaeter.

Rodgers, who wants a replacement for fans’ favourite Kyogo before Monday, added: 'Clearly, he (Kyogo) has been a real iconic player for the club,’ he said.

He’s done absolutely brilliantly in his time here.

‘So, yes, it’s about getting a replacement. I think that’s made clear.

‘He’s a player that’s done a great job. But he probably wanted to leave.

‘We have to move on from that and we have to look to the next player to come in

Asked if he was confident of signing a new striker in the final days, Rodgers added: ‘Yes. There’s a lot of work going on behind the scenes.

‘‘Clearly, we wouldn’t have wanted to have sold (Furuhashi), certainly not at this point.

‘But he made it clear he wanted to move and, when that’s the case, then we have to find the best solution for the club.

‘And the club will work very hard and we’ll look to get an able replacement

A replacement for Kyogo is the explicit wording here.

    Evidently has to be quality.

We are absolutely signing a Kyogo replacement . Alot working going on in the background on the deal, we've known about the situation for months . Sounds like a permanent transfer to me and has me back thinking Kvistgaarden

Hang on, is him not talking about wanting Tierney in now whilst he’s an Arsenal player not disrespectful to oor Greg?

Tierney is a fans favourite at Arsenal. I think he will start or come on tomorrow against Girona as a way to give him a send off. That's probably why nothing has been confirmed fully yet.

We held the final decision on Valle leaving and I just can't see us letting him go without a plan.
