Play off +1 at the minute. Didn’t have a great year to be fair though as I was sitting at +2.4 when the season started. I know a lot of guys who took it up after Covid and not all but plenty have stuck to it and got the bug for it.

    * me thats wild. You should have a youtube channel ffs!

Would be beating Rick shiels. I only started August 2023. Sitting at 27HC so very high but enjoying getting better and getting it down.

Broke 100 was my first target, now trying to break 90 this year least once. Really enjoying it. Play with a mate who's miles better but still good to get tips and the HC system is obviously there for a reason

Haha. I’ve watched Rick Shiels a few times, but I wouldn’t be trying to get any tips there if I’m honest :giggle1:. That’s what it’s all about mate, just always trying to improve and get the handicap down. If you get out playing regularly it will. What course do you play at?

Nah I watch him for entertainment now and again. Same as Bryan Bros, Golf Life etc. Its more just a good opportunity to see other courses across the world. There's also a lot of smaller channels that are great aswell and more my level in some cases.

I'm a member at Bathgate for now but I'm moving to Deer Park, just outside of Livingston. Also booked a weekend in Arran end of March to play Shiskine and Brodick. Where are you?

Conscious this is the youtube thread as well. I'll make that thread later. Sure @Mr. Slippyfist would appreciate it now he's a golf nerd as well.

I like Deer Park. It suits my natural shot shape so just kind of suits my eye. I’m at Leven and Lochgelly. I’ve never played Bathgate. That should be decent playing in Arran. Aye a thread for golf would be good. Handy for course recommendations and their condition.

    Played it many times?

Ah a fifer! West Lothian CSC. Bathgate is good but quite challenging for someone at my level. Prefer Deer Park although the back 9 is hellish on a bad day. 12 and 14 killers uphill.

Aye a Fifer mate. I played it twice in a matter of a few weeks last year at work days out, and went well both times. Almost all the dog legs bar one I think are left to right. The only one I can think that isn’t is the 5th or 6th I think it is, but it’s a short hole and you can still take one over the tree with a cut if you want. Are 12 and 14 both par 5s?

It'll be the fifth I think. Both par5s aye, the 14th is the hardest rated on ghe course. For a high HC like me it's a nightmare. Hitting uphill pretty much the whole way and a small green. Only saving grace is 15 is short and downhill!!

If it feels comfy for you then no reason why hitting irons can’t work for you mate. Obviously Matt Fitzpatrick has brought it more to people’s attention as he started chipping cack handed and won the US Open doing so. There’s just no right and wrong when it comes to grip and swing in my opinion. As long as you can repeat something that works for you.

Not sure about all this stuff. As far as i'm concerned golf is about smacking balls in a field. There's barely any need for a hole to be honest let alone 4 under par birdies and all that craic. We just used to smack it hard as possible, it was a game we played after football. "I'm not aloud to use your club though?'' thats how you figured out that nobody liked you down the wreck.
